Looks possible. I'd get a better shot of the cap and a spore print for identification to be sure though.

EDIT: Do you mind resizing your photos? 1.6mb is a bit excessive, especially considering the graininess of the photo.

Unreal Morg, nice photos - is that a cultivated bed or a natural habitat?

It's a landscaped garden bed.

And the landscapers were nice enough to drop a fresh load of woodchips on it at the end of fruiting last August :)

I notice some members mentioning indicator species.

Would it be possible for some kind knowledible member to maybe list some of these species?

Been on the hunt and realised it would be much easier to look for indicators to narrow the search a bit.

So we have;

Strophs

Hypholoma

and what else?

Gymnopilus sp. are prevelant where I have found subs in the past, but I have no idea whether they start appearing at the same time as them.

i awoke this morning to the sound of heavy rain on my window and couldnt wipe the grin off my face. after the rain on tuesday and the significantly more substantial rain today the next few days should see prolific fruiting!

oh and i agree with morg about the photo pd, its almost too beautiful to eat

Another LONG day out and about with mu. Most patches are only just beginning to show signs but a few valleys were loaded. Hopefully this season will be alot better than previous years and with the recent rain things are looking promising.

Didn't get to go where planned today, but found these just walking around near by.

Season is upon us, people! :)

Photos of them + other fungi in their natural habitat will be posted in the 'Melbourne Finds' thread.
