Telling apart top from bottom

Recommended Posts

hi, i'm just trying to plant my first cuttings (cheers passivedaemon) but i'm having trouble working out which end is the bottom (if you plant them upside down to what they originally grew they will not grow right?).

i've read that people often cut the bottom at an angle and the top flat, but i cant see much of a diff between the two.

any tricks you know of to help me work this out?

edit: the species is trich bridgisii (psycho0)

thanks

soma

bridgesii is easy

The vascular ring at the bottom should be a larger diameter than at the top.

thanks everyone, after following each of your advice i THINK i've got it right.

i guess i won't be certain until they either grow or die

they wont die either way

i had a peruvianus upside down for a year

nothing happeed

so i pulled it out turned around and it was growing within a month

this is unusual not cos it didnt die but because they normally pup anyway

these things naturally fall down slopes land in a crevice and keep growing

changing polarity just involves a lag time

Bit hard from where soma sits as the spines were cut off. :P

if ya have a look at revs pic soma (especially the stump on the left), above the areoles there is a little mark like a V. If the v is on top, that is the right way up.
