Cylindropuntia?

Question

Got this one from a man in Bendigo Victoria, at a cactus farm a hundred years old or so...

He said if you were spiked by it a certain amount of times it would give you paralysis.

Any ideas?

yeah, looks very similar to my Austrocylindropuntia. The nomenclature is all screwed up on these anyway.

Oh, and do you think it would really give you paralysis?

Would be really handy to know for saftey reasons...

it's probably only rare because of the renaming. I can't remember the older names, but you can google them.

I am not sure about the paralysis. There is a thread on this forum fairly recently about my experience with Trich spines and the pain and swelling they cause me in my muscles. Maybe there is something to the paralysis thing. I'd imagine it is dose dependent and temporary.
