keeping jars off bottom of PC?

Recommended Posts

i know its trivial but i was constructing a 'rack' to keep the jars say an inch off the bottom of the PC out of some wire mesh (a bendable gauge) then realised it wasnt obviously stainless steel!

do people bother keeping them off the bottom?

is it a problem with picking up properties of this wire?

what are some things maybe from around the house that people use?

im expecting an obvious answer thats probably going to make me regret asking such a trivial thing but hey!

thanks team.

wishing you all fruitfull yields.

Yes, it's important to keep jars from contact with the bottonm of the vessel as excessive heat can be transferred to the jars this way.

The item you seek is called a stand-off plate.

Stainless is preferrable, but not necessary.

Personally, I've always used old cake-stands from op-shops etc.

cheers

I just use a steamer basket in mine (stainless steel). I hear that the tea towel works wonders as previously mentioned. Any negative reports on this method?

I use an aluminium PC and when I used a tea towel on the bottom I found it stained the aluminium..

I think I'd rather use a stand for that reason.

My PC came with a steamer accessory.

But if I didn't have one I'd just find a cheap barbecue grill that's the right diameter and put that under it. Most have a riser type thing on the base but you can easily bend one or two of the wires into a shape that would make it a rack.

Try a few balls of aluminium foil screwed up and placed on the bottom of pc, cheap and easy :)
