-bijanto- Posted November 22, 2006 (edited) Its true, as far as my experience goes. Despite of zero watering during 6 month of drought period, these plants have survived. These are pics of four narrow-leaved khat (Catha edulis) plants growing on my land. They spent most of their life inside container until May 2006 when I transplanted them to the ground. They have survived dry season from May to November without receiving irrigation. As a result they have dropped off most of their leaves, yet still look okay so far. Now as the rainy season is coming I hope they'll flourish again. Edited November 22, 2006 by -bijanto-

By the way where did you learn indonesian? Terima kasih MORG, thanks Hagakure, I wish you luck. Edited November 22, 2006 by -bijanto-

woof woof woof Posted November 23, 2006 hello bijanto - tell me > how dry is your dry period? how many milimeters of rain do you get? you are in Bandug - that is high up in the mountains right? - so you have a daytime temp of around 20 to 25 C I imagine? where i live - daytime temp is 30C on average - this rain season hasnt beeen all that happening for us. normal average rainfall is around 550 mm a year. this year I do not expect to reach 250 mm. a very dry year so far. last year and the year before were i think 800 mm + years. well above average at least. i ask because i have wondered for some time now if khat will survive our climate. i am actually looking for edible plants for our climate - plants that will survive 300 mm average rainfall years at 30 daytime temps. but anything interesting for our climate is very welcome. so guys if you have trees in austrailia growing in harsh conditions and have easy accss to seeds > be sure to let me know - edibles - ornamentals - and plants with interesting goodies in them.
