Something had a munch on my Loph graft...

:angry: Woke up this morning to find some friggin thing has had a good go at my loph graft. :angry:

The little critter had a go at all three grafts i have and even had a chomp on my Lophophora Cedral on its own roots. :angry:

Any one else seen this kind of damage on their Lophs??

These were in a greenhouse with alot of other cacti and thats a it touched..

What do you think did it???

yeah mine have been chomped a few times, always at night i figure rodent of somesort, always has a go at all of them too, they heal alright and grow fine just look worse i guess. Its a good idea to put lophs under a cage of somsort as birds also like to have a go at them

Probably the worst offenders around here are ants which steal all my fruits if i dont pick them straight away which means i get unfully formed seed. I even try providing them with other food but they like the seed/fruit.

Right thats it ime making a cage for em first thing tommorrow..

And lace my greeenhouse with rodent bait...

you could always look at it as a potency test, those with more bite marks arnt as potent :) I figure its rodents because of the shape of the teeth marks, but also watch out for catipillars, especially those ones that only seem to come out at night and chop all seedlings off below the cotyledons.

I had the exact same thing happen to two of my grafted loph's. I could be wrong, but I believe the culprit was a caterpillar or slug.
