apothecary Posted October 25, 2006 (edited) I have a maths lecture 6-8pm that day but thought others might be interested. You'd be a jerk to miss it http://www.haventyouheard.net/ Where? Lecture theatre 6, Central lecture block, University of New South Wales, Kensington Australia When? 7pm, Thursday 26th October 2006 What? Two fresh and exciting presentations: Presentation one - Unethical? Who says so? Presentation two - A Better Answer Right now. And lots of it. Whatever it may be. Such is modern life. And with the abundance of all things we easily convince ourselves that all is okay, that we are on the up and up, and that the golden age of human endeavour is probably next week if not tomorrow. And yet... The boss wants more, and there's no time for the simple things. We just can't match the airbrushed ideal. Right and wrong. What's the difference? Something is missing. Millions can't find a meal. Disease removes entire generations, in someone else's country. The nameless and unloved sleep in cardboard boxes. We're running out of fresh water. People are still killing people. There's this fear that something might happen. With a little bit of honesty we can see the world for what it is - broken in too many ways. And try as we might, it seems like we're just not making progress. It's hard to see any sort of solution. But don't give up yet. Beyond all the bleakness there is an answer. botanika Posted October 26, 2006 And yet... The boss wants more, and there's no time for the simple things. Ahh the ambiguity of life. This reminds me of a colleague of mine who recently wrote a journal article on how development is out of control in pace and pressure and needs to be slowed down. But in his work emails he always directs 'this is urgent, we need to get this done NOW, pronto'! ...or people who fear flying because of plane crashes yet walk out onto a street without looking for cars
wandjina Posted October 26, 2006 oh my wordy lordy yes! Ambiguity, paradoxicality... I want to be free, can someone please tell me what I should do?
