NonSlipSole Posted September 28, 2006 Howdy folks. My first post here. I was hoping you could assist me with a species ID on my cactus. Sorry if this is totally obvious but I am an amatuer in such matters. Here it is. And in closeup I would be grateful for any help provided. Ta.
0 PD. Posted September 28, 2006 Hello nonslipsole, hahahaha awesome name dude. To me that plant looks like a T. pachanoi, then again it could be a T. scopulicola, its a bit hard to tell from the pics, but i would go with T. pachanoi. Can you get a close up of the spines? 0 chilli Posted September 30, 2006 Definitely a Pach IMO, curious to know what makes you think it might be Scop PD?
0 sobriquet Posted September 30, 2006 (edited) How do people tell the difference between Trichocereus and plain old Cereus species?? Is it not possible that this might be a Cereus variety? perhaps NonSlipSole can fill us in on the provenance of this plant to help? 0 planthelper Posted September 30, 2006 the cereus has very deep ribs, the trichos don't.
0 chilli Posted October 1, 2006 How do people tell the difference between Trichocereus and plain old Cereus species??Is it not possible that this might be a Cereus variety? perhaps NonSlipSole can fill us in on the provenance of this plant to help? Look at a bunch of photos of Cereus, and compare them to a bunch of photos of Trichocereus, the differences will be quite obvious.
0 AndyAmine. Posted October 1, 2006 There are quite a few diferences but some obvious ones are deeper ribs, white/beige areol fluff and no hair on flower stems
0 foolsbreath Posted October 1, 2006 Yeah, this is no cereus Definetely pach with a mere possibilty of a scop cross, would like to see closer detail of the ribbing to be sure, But I would say a straight Pach from these photos
