naja naja Posted June 5, 2006 Just went for a 5 min walk to a pine cone I bought back last year. It was simply placed in a nice, fungal friendly area of bush on my bush property. It's been unassisted since the time of it's arrival. And this is wat I found.

MORG Posted July 7, 2006 (edited) I'm not from WA. What's the story with this place? Is it some famous shroom patch sourcing the whole of Perth? And the cops stake it out? I'm just curious. Edited July 7, 2006 by MORG
naja naja Posted July 7, 2006 yeah it's a very confined area(as far as the cops and most ppl think) The main patch is little more than a few hectares of pines, the others have logging crew and sum r on private property. If the cops see pretty much any car with young, suss looking crew round bailingup this time ov year, they will pull u over and search ya. Or any parked car they will investigate. Unless u know of another patch(gaurded secrets) away from the main jayes rd area, it would be incredibly easy for the cops to catch u. There's only 4 ways(2 logical) into bailingup by road. They have spread over the years but u r not likely to find them anywhere except jayes, unless u already know the location of the patch. I have proved they can grow atleast 80km away, so personally, if I were to bother going down, it would be purely to transport spawn to new areas, establishing patches well away from the main patch, all along the road to nannup would be prime. a few places in bridgetown, permberton, margaret river and even perth(back hill) I think. Since the main jayes road patch is so harshly attacked by dickhead littering morons looking for a quick high, I have absolutely no problems in moving spawn to better, more remote areas where only the knowledgable and fit people will find them, even then only through word of mouth or luck. There's hundreds of hectares of pines to innoculate and once the area is too big to contral/police I hope they will give up. Until then, I wish they would concentrate more on handing out rubbish bags and $5000 fines to anybody caught littering. The charge is higher than wat u get for shrooms and it is a just fine IMO At wrk, edit more info later.
sunny Posted July 7, 2006 so do you think it would be possible to go to jayes and not get caught?
occidentalis Posted July 7, 2006 so do you think it would be possible to go to jayes and not get caught? Yes, it would be possible In fact it is quite likely that you won't get caught. There is a lot of road and not a lot of police. However, from the questions you are asking it is obvious that you have no idea about the area or any ways of reducing the legal risk. You have to think - even if there is a 95% chance of NOT getting caught, that leaves a 5% chance of getting caught - and that is a significant risk to be taking when the consequences are quite serious. You will get a criminal record if you are caught.
Manisobsolete Posted July 7, 2006 i havent been caught....yet. but then maybe i dont go to jayes rd for the mushrooms......then again maybe i do.
sunny Posted July 9, 2006 well i went last year but it was later in the season and didnt get caught. it just sounds like people are freaking out about it a bit more this year, thats all.
Hyphal Posted July 11, 2006 (edited) well i went last year but it was later in the season and didnt get caught. it just sounds like people are freaking out about it a bit more this year, thats all. The reality is, if you dont know the area well, chances are you could get caught. How high are the chances? Who cares really, when the penalty is a criminal record. Its always worth freaking out about, although, yes - the media do do a good job of scaring people off, it IS still very risky. I know people who are local to the area who have even been caught, some on more than one occasion, and all now with criminal records. All that aside, here are a few pics from about a fortnight ago. The whole Southwest is amazingly dry and brown for this time of year. Its really a depressing season, and we were lucky to find anything at all. After a magical morning - We were greeted with an area that had just recently been completely burnt. The whole are was very brown and dry. Pretty depressing stuff... This is a picture of a very fruitful log from last saeason compared with the exact same log two weeks ago - It wasnt looking good when after 30 mins of looking all we found were two dismal, charred specimines - So we decided to go to another place. On the way back to the car, there were definitely some signs of fungal growth, even amongst the charred remains. I found these growing on a fair few of the remaining logs/stumps around the area - Fortunately, after a bit of persistence, luck prevailed - The odd thing about these shrooms were that over half of them had this very peculiar growth around the stem, almost like a remnant of a veil, although it was quite pronounced and very firm and meaty. Here are two examples - It was worth the mission, and we didnt go home empty handed - But all in all its really not looking good this year. I heard on the radio they are sending extra psycologists to the Southwest to deal with the depression amongst the farming community after having to deal with the driest winter ever on record.
