Variegated Pereskiopsis Clone from Czech Republic
MeanGreen posted a gallery image in Member's Gallery
From the album: MeanGreen's Ethnobotanical Garden
Recently acquired 3 cuttings of this variegated pereskiopsis, and the biggest one is now big enough that I can graft something on it. Probably wishful thinking but I'm hoping the variegation is viral and can be passed on to the scion like some opuntias do. -
It's been a few years, but since summer started everything in my new greenhouse is exploding and my collection is finally starting to be worth showing. Big thanks to the Melbourne folks who helped me get a lot of these together toward the start... I'll be coming back to the meets with something to share in the near future Ephedra sinica, sprouting from fresh seed. I found a research article with a propagation technique that had a high success rate and stuck to that. Used ordinary potting mix; made small indents in the soil about half an inch deep, put a seed in each, then gently dusted over it with a 50/50 mix of soil and propagation sand to lightly cover them. Keeping them in my greenhouse for now and spraying them once a day... I will move them out soon, I'm hoping for a few more babies to pop up. I used a nice deep pot after reading somewhere here that they tend to grow roots downward rather than outward. Would appreciate if anyone can verify the ID on these! Goji. I'm surprised how resilient these are. They were both basically twigs when I got them and kept losing all their leaves every few months, but they somehow bounced back every time. I repotted them before summer and have been giving them a lot of water, and one of them has even started flowering! I don't know if this means it will fruit soon or if I need to do something to make that happen, though. Valerian? The leaves don't look right to me. I harvested this and split the root a few years back and it started growing again recently. Still not entirely sure if the valerian is making a comeback or if this is just some weed. In any case I'll find out when I try to harvest it again... I nearly fell asleep cleaning the roots last time. The oils are super potent when it's fresh. Turmeric. Woefully neglected. Honestly I thought these were dead a long time ago... I don't know why these are still alive, but I'll take it. B. Caapi is producing more vine material than I know what to do with. Also surprising me with how resilient it is... it's seen some rough days prior to my acquisition of a new greenhouse. Psychotria Carthagenensis is looking lively lately too. Brugmansias are making progress as well, with another Psychotria in the back there. Again, you can see that I had no idea what to do with these cuttings. Somehow it worked out anyway. Succulent friends... you can probably tell I had no idea what I was doing when I was potting these cuttings, but I've since learned my lesson. Progress has been slow with the trichos as a result, and I think I ought to repot them properly in the near future. The pereskiopsis only very recently started actually growing, so I might leave it alone for now. Bastard things tried to kill me when we first met anyway. And last but not least... Sally D. The only one left of about 5 cuttings... it's also seen some hard times but it's finally thriving. In case anyone was wondering, the Kava Kava didn't make it

From the album: MeanGreen's Ethnobotanical Garden
Thick pereskiopsis on the left, with one that looks variegated. Crested pereskiopsis on the right, it doesn't show well but you can see it has one trunk and two heads but has never been topped. The stem is also oval and very thick. -
I have some pereskiopsis living outside in a pot in the open. I live on the second floor (3rd for you yanks) of an apartment and have noticed something has had a munch at some leaves. Just wondering if anyone knows what might have done this and how to go about stopping it? I have little general gardening knowledge so any advice would be much appreciated. Need these guys strong and healthy to help support some trichs ill graft in a few weeks.

Inspired by Master B's recent post in "what did you do": How do you all manage your grafting stock? Most posts take it for granted that grafters have plenty on hand but I haven't seen a thread focused on growing stocks, aside from the hydroponic experiments. I'll start - My pereskiopsis have gained probably 30cm since a few months ago. They are 4-5 plants to a 4in square pot with a mix of sand, perlite, and potting soil that's quite a lot richer than what I use for trichos but not pure potting soil. They get about 6 hours of direct sunlight a day and I keep them watered most of the time. I've observed that similar plants I put in 6-pack pots (much smaller space) are growing at a pretty pathetic rate, by comparison.

So I just noticed a strange new growth below the scion, coming from an areole on the pereskiopsis. Looks ariocarpus-esque, the scion is fissuratus. dont know if it's a chimera yet, or the scion pupping below the union (just as strange??) but I'll be keeping an eye on it! *sorry pics are sideways!!! 8-D has anyone seen similar before? Would be very keen to hear of it.

Hi Folks! I have a few lophophora grafted on peresiopsis and San Pedro stalks. I understand San Pedro and Loph like to have a winter dormancy period. When The cacti are grafted does that change anything? I would imagine the Pedro/Loph grafts would enjoy a rest period but what about Pereskiopsis/Loph? Being unfamiliar with the growth cycle of this "tropical" cactus, is it requires to give these a dormancy period? Secondly, is there anyone out there that lets their Lophophora grafts grow year round? Will it weaken the cactus? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Guys!

I am looking to buy a reasonable amount of pereskiopsis for grafting i dont need it to be rooted, but if a few bits were it would be an advantage. Can trade some of the value if you want. I will have around 20 grafts to do in 4-6 weeks time, so that should hopefully allow time for the peres to get a little bit established. If not i can hold off a bit longer. I will then have another 20 or so down the track as well so if the price is right i may look at buying it all now. If you can post here, or give me a mesage, with a price on 2 and 5m of stock. Which will be cut into 10ish cm lengths.

Hi everyone, just seeing if there is anyone with some spare peres they would be willing to sell or trade. I have just put down some seed & really need to start organize some grafting stock. I would prefer to trade as I'm a bit tight on $ but If you can only sell, I will find some $ as I need to get some stock together. I have a few acacia obtus & phleb seeds, varies cacti seeds & little tricos, Cereus monstrose cuttings (size of 1.25ltr bottle) & maybe more I can trade. Help would be much appreciated. Cheers jox

I got a few tricho seedlings underway and I'm itching to have a crack at grafting some of the buggers. Just wondering if any of the kiwis on here would have any pereskiopsis up for grabs? If anyone has any alternative species they'd recommend as stock to put the baby trich's on I'm all ears also.
