Hi all, I've seen a few discussions around this topic and there seems to be a strong general consensus. I will be adding a variety of acacia species to my garden very soon. But I would also like to study this plant and its alkaloids in the meantime while my babies grow and mature. I would love any kind of advice in regards to potentially finding a trusted, safe and ethically sourced supplier of bark? I'm open to anything that any of you lovely people may have to say, even if its just wait for my own to grow haha. Any help/advice is greatly appreciate Thanks community

I have read about this a few times. (Only have access to my phone so am unable to locate the search bar on the mobile site.) Anyway l was wondering how some other members inoculate with rhizobia? I have tried looking for specific products l might be able to buy. Some members have said grab some soil from other acacia, would this be acceptable for A Courtii? And if you did inoculate what were your processes for applying? When they are seeds (during soaking)? Or after a soak and mix it in with germination medium? I have loads acacia l can pull dirt from. How much of this dirt is used to treat the soil in question? Also when l search google the only things that come up are studies. I rather cut to the chase and get members processes and methods that have worked for them. Please and thank you!

Okie... so, whilst exploring some bush on a mates place, around 20km inland on the far south coast NSW, I came across two very odd-looking acacia... seemed to be a few of them; maybe found 5-10 individual plants for the first and quite common for the second. What sparked my interest in number 1, was the sheer SIZE of the phyllodes: 210 x 60 mm and very leathery. They have the typical A. Obtusifolia resin margin and are thick in a similar way, but just seem almost too large? With ID of A. Obtus saying only up to 23mm wide... The second, similarily have INCREDIBLY long phyllodes... measuring over 300mm for some, but only 20mm wide... Anyway, would love it if someone slightly better at plant ID could offer some suggestions? Cheers, Yp Ps. just realised I should probably add a little more info; inflorescences were cylindrical (although not flowering at this point, seems I missed it by a month or two, as still often dried remnants of the flower stalk). Didn’t have my camera with me, so no photos of the tree itself, but in the case of the first species the growth pattern was very similar to A. Obtusifolia down here - quite sparce, with relatively few phyllodes per branch. In the case of the second, much fuller, taller and generally more vigorous growth.

Hi all - has anyone here had success with germinating A. burkittii? They seem much more challenging than other acuminata variants. 2x hot water treatment 2 weeks apart yielded no results (unlike a. broad or narrow phyllode which usually germinate within a week of hot water treatment). Thanks for any help in advance!

Hey guys I was hoping for some help identifying these wattle species around where I live. I am north east of perth in the hills. The images show three different wattle plants, I believe two of them (long, narrow, elliptical leaves) may be the same species but am unsure due to colour differences in the branches. Sorry for the noobish question and any help is very much appreciated!!

Alcohol extract (For soap making;)
TheMooseZeus posted a topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
Hi all, Has anyone had any experience soaking your acacia (or otherwise) plant matter in high proof alcohol or iso for extended periods of time. For making soaps? I hear once evaporated it can form interesting crystals. - Thank you all! -
Heyo y'all, been doing a bit a researching on the acacia species but I'm just "stumped" trying to find out which type this even is. These shots have been taken in the darling downs/south east Queensland near the Toowoomba region. thanks for your time.

Hi folks, Acacia melanoxylon grows well at our site. I used to hate it, but the fact the timber is so good, and it fixes nitrogen, and it grows so fast have made the damn tree grow on me. I was wanting to know about any other acacias which will grow in a wet NZ climate approx USDA 9b? The area gets about 2.2m of rain per year (+- 20cm) spread evenly with no real dry season, and temperature mostly stays between 5 and 20 degrees the whole year (with forays down to -1 and 25 degrees respectively). The soil drains okay from what I can tell, but perhaps best to think of it as a bit swampy. Any ideas for other Australian natives, that fix nitrogen, and ideally have another use (e.g. edible seeds/fruit)?
