Loph Graft Flowering, First cacti flower!
Shamanistic replied to Shamanistic's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Thanks for the tip GoT, I'll be sure to try! I would love to get some fresh loph seed, especially from my own cacti. Nice pic Cactuscarl! -
Telstra aren't the only ones, Optus are just as bad. While I've only had to ring up a handful of times every single bill for about a year - year and a half my sister got was around $600, so Mum rang Optus on a near monthly basis for another several hour conversation which always results in the bill being made proper ($90). My friend is in the same boat, just about every bill he has to call up and saves himself several hundred by arguing. It really shits me to be honest and because it happens all the time to a lot of people I am going to assume it's done on purpose. All those cunts should be thrown in gaol, sorry about the french but there is no other word for them. You don't go down to coles to buy your nights dinner and they say that will be $1,638.95 when it really should only be $10.

I'm in the middle of the fires but in an area that isn't too under threat atm but am a little worried. Like I said in chat I've never seen anything like this. I looked out from a hill on a near by street over the lake and the whole horizon is covered in a thick redish smoke. Very surreal. I know of a member who is at risk and my thoughts are with them and any other saber out there closer to the fires than myself. Stay safe everyone!

Nice pic Gnome, hopefully one day you can show me one of it as a nice big bushy shrub in your garden! Some have PMed me wondering what the unlabelled seeds were, they're the Acacia Burkittii seed. Remember to give a big thank you to Naja for them as he was the one who supplied those!

Great to hear they're finally starting to arrive. Just a quick note because there has been problems with sprouting the acuminata. To germinate I've had most success with this bunch of seed if I scarify the wide end of the seed as well as hot water soaking. Enjoy guys!!

All gone! Everyone who has replied in this topic and pmed me will receive seeds. Unfortunately I actually don't have any acacia seeds left so I do apologize to those who missed out. They are all packed and ready to send but just hold tight because there's burtikii seed to come yet ;)

I'm heading over to Aotearoa for a bit late December, usually I've gone over there with my family because I have other family over there but this time I'm going to be over there by myself for the most of my holiday seeing my family. Since I'll be over there for a while I want to check out the scenery. I have seen a fair bit of the North Island but never been to the South Island so I kinda want to head over that side as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I have to see when I'm over in NZ? I'd also be super keen to meet up with any kiwi sabers out there if you're keen. Last time I was over there I saw a few trichos in front yards, one in particular with a few. For all I know it could have been one of you guys' houses

Sally, I'd love to do something like bungee jumping over there. I've been to the hot springs in Rotorua before, the one that's most famous for it's smelly air. I remember thinking to myself a few times if living there was healthy but everything seemed to be thriving. You do get used to the smell though. I'd take plenty of pictures for sure. Wouldn't mind one of those cameras, I've already got a pretty good one though so in a way it'd be a waste. It would be so worth it for a bungie jump though. Ceres, That scenery looks beautiful, no wonder they filmed Lord of the Rings there. There are not many places on the Earth nearly as suitable to host Middle Earth as New Zealand. A whole lot of kiwis have always said the south island is more picturesque too. So many of those places look so sureal. Marlborough Sounds looks like it would be a ripper new years eve, I'm doing something with some of my cousins for new years but I'm not sure what exactly that was but likely something like that. I'll have to do a bit more reading up on it and suggest we go there. If you were trying to sell a holiday you've got me sold Thanks for taking the time out to show me all those wonderful options! I wouldn't mind going down to Otago, from what I know of the place it sounds like a pretty fun place to be for the most part. ID, I've been there a couple of times before man and I would say it's definitely worth it! Dan, Just looked at Arthur's Pass then, looks like it would have some serious hikes available. I'd love to go out in the middle of the forest or mountain range and just walk around for a few days going on different trails or maybe even one big trail. Nemisty, Last time I was over there I did a nudie run at a wedding so naked bungie jumping wouldn't be too unusual! I will be near Auckland for a while I'd say, it would be great to meet up and check out the surroundings. I've done a fair bit of normal fishing and I've always been curious how fly fishing would go. I'm hoping I'll be able to go out and go big game fishing or something like that or maybe diving. I've went out a couple of times on friends surfboards, I was no Kelly Slater by any means but I had good fun.

Abso-fucking-lutely rediculous. Guess they better chop down the several Acacia Floribunda that are planted at a near by school, forget the fact they give the kids shade and something to admire in their beautiful blooms. One of the kids could smoke it and get schizophrenia. I wonder if we will hear on the news 'Thousands of trees have been murdered today after police engaged on a witch hunt against half of all cactus species, many native australian plants and much more. The death toll is said to increase.' Thanks for the heads up Torsten.

Meet up: Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle
Shamanistic replied to Neoshaman's topic in News & Notices
I'd be very keen for a meet soon, there is a 2 week uni gap after next week. Someone name a date so I can make sure I can get off work. -
I started doing up the seed packets yesturday and realized that I really do have a bucket load of seed, therefore everyone that has requested some so far will get all 4 varieties (Acuminata, Burtikii, Floribunda, Neurophylla). If you don't want all 4 varieties then PM me and let me know but I will assume you will all like to give each of them a try if you don't contact me and let me know otherwise

Ok, PM me where to send them to and I'll send some. Without trying to make this thread turn into the other one maybe you should stop looking at the tree in terms of DMT content and see it as a living being who contributes to keeping you alive. If it weren't for the abundance of trees around you, and likely a lot of acacias if you live in Australia, then you would choke on your own breath and that's ignoring how you even got to be here to breath in the first place. No plant is useless and especially not the humble acacia.

I was unaware of any shit in another thread but I did go looking and I think I've found what you're referring to. If you are serious about raising the seeds up to be beautiful trees then I need not say anything. The acacia itself will prove it's own worth and call you what it will ;) What variety do you want mate?

Everyone whose posted here and pmed me will get their seeds. I'm in a bit of a rush now but when I get the time I'll compile a list of what's left. Also note I did say I'd get them sent off by next week but if you requested some burtikii seeds you'll have to wait until they arrive before I can get them sent out. Happy season of fertility everyone!

I knew youd be keen for some burtikii Sally! I had similar results with the acuminata but my water was really hot as well. The floribundas are good but I've had better success with scarification as well as hot, not boiling, water otherwise I get roughly 60-70% germination rate.

Nice! Well I'd be happy to help distribute some with those seeds then for sure! Those who don't want burtikii seeds with their other seeds please let me know and I'll send yours off before I receive the burtikii seeds.

Everyone who has posted thus far will receive seeds. There's still plenty more! I'd love to help, how many is a butt load? Enough that I could send everyone a burkitii seed packet with their other seed packets? That would be a good way of distributing them without the extra cost.

One of my mates lost all his garden in the fires yesterday
Shamanistic replied to El Presidente Hillbillios's topic in Chill Space
Oh man reading that has left me heart broken for him Unfortunately right now I cannot really help out that much with spare plants however I can send him a nice amount of Acacia seeds. -
I've noticed that there is some insects on my young caapi vine and I'm not sure what they are. I'm not too bothered by them being there as long as they're not negatively effecting my vine. They don't seem to be eating the leaves but could they be sucking sap but then they could be performing some symbiotic function that I am unaware of though so I didn't want to go in and exterminate them willy nilly. They seem to leave a white dust like substance on the vine. I have had them on my vine before and growth did seemed to retard but it was also getting colder so that is another factor which could explain the retarded growth. Anyway here are some pictures of the critters. http://s22.postimg.org/tlsgt1ti9/DSC_0129.jpg http://s22.postimg.org/lubquhpcx/DSC_0131.jpg http://s22.postimg.org/xn9jyplsx/DSC_0132.jpg http://s22.postimg.org/jzywcr2ch/DSC_0134.jpg Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Growth had actually seemed to be picking up lately which is why I thought they mightn't have been doing anything bad so I am sure it'll recover just fine. It's starting to climb around the supports for the roof of the undercover area in my backyard which it hasn't done before so I'm pretty happy since that was why I planted it there. Usually I just wet the base of the plant and not bother so much with the foliage, so to avoid thrips I should water all of the plant if it is dry? I'll look into the predatory mites, I love the idea of designing ecosystems in my backyard
-
I'll go do it right now, thanks heaps Sally! Edit: Correction, they were thrips
