Best Method for Germinating Cactus Seeds?
TheExplorer replied to doxneed2c-me's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Your method sounds fine. There is no real difference between germinating T.peru and T.pach, so I would assume that the pachanoi seeds were probably just old. If you use fresh seeds they will germinate with very little effort. But if you want to try something different have a crack at the Takeaway Tek. -
How to recognize a peruvianus
TheExplorer replied to trucha's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
I'm pretty sure that plant is the same as the 'Tipz' macro clone. I can't be 100% certain, but it definitely looks the same and the location matches. EDIT: Typo. -

Looks like what people typically call T.macrogonus. Is it from Gumtree? -
Still Can't Believe I Found This at Bunnings

Beautiful plant. Nice growth rate too. What soil mix do you use in your outdoor beds? -
Yeah for some reason scale prefers certain species. I recently found a bunch of seedlings in my greenhouse that were covered in scale (and pretty much dead - chlorophyll sucked out) and they were all from the same seed batch. Funny thing is that they were spread out over the greenhouse and surrounded by hundreds of other hybrids and species which were untouched.

I feel your pain mate, scale is a bitch. Out of curiosity, is that a particular clone in the picture? I have something similar I'm trying to ID.

First one will probably just fatten up after a little while. Second one looks dichotomous (double-headed).

Nice one.

I'll be there. I think Hillbilly is trying to get there as well. You going mate?

I've had friends find them around Wollongong and even the Southern Highlands. I've also personally seen large amounts of cubes and Pan.cyans growing in the Sydney area. Having said that though, they are very inconsistent, and often only grow in small microclimates or when we have wet, humid summers.

I posted a bit of info in incog's thread about Cambodia: http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31610&page=1. Let me know if you have any other questions mate.

what breed is sab's echinopsis "cornucopia I"
TheExplorer replied to DiscoStu's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I'm pretty sure they are both T.bridgesii/E.lageniformis, and 'Cornucopia II' is semi-monstrose. -

If it was from Koda you should just message T and ask him. -
Oh and is there any chance of getting better shot of that crest?

#1 & #4 are common seed grown 'peruvianus' from Hamiltons. They are really variable and hard to ID with any surety. Hamiltons assure me that buy all of their Trichocereus seed from one vendor in Europe as either T.bridgesii, T.pachanoi or T.peruvianus, but as we all know seed vendors often mis-ID plants or allow them to crossbreed. Mine are too young to tell at this stage, but I have a whole range of plants from there that I simply lump together as peruvianoid or pachanoid. #2 & #3 are the two dominant types from Urban Tribes. I have both and I have always called them T.pachanoi. They are not common as such, but they are definitely around as U.T. have been selling for a long time and years ago they supplied some of the head shops in Australia. IME, #3 can sometimes look like the PC clone, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it sold as PC before, so perhaps there is a fair bit of it around. Also looks a bit like the 'Alf' clone from SAB, but I think that clone looks like PC too.

BEWARE of using commercial pyrethrum sprays on trichos as they can cause a lot of damage to the skin and potentially kill your plants. If you do decide to use it you should wash it all off and into the soil within a minute or two.
