    Sacred gardening in the media

a couple of abc articles probs aren't gonna directly cause the prohibition of cacti in aus, but one day there will be a straw that breaks the camels back. as @Strontium Dawg said the cat has been out of the bag for decades. My grandma contacted me to tell me about the second article Most people who care about psychoactive plants already know about this stuff, I suspect the typical audience of abc don't care or already have a negative view towards drugs in general. I appreciate Liam's work and dedication and can understand wanting to promote things that have benefitted you, wanting to become known as an authority or share your passions and promote medical benefits of mesc, push to legalisation etc. I hate to be fatalistic but I personally don't think psychedelics are gonna be legalised outside of medical contexts in australia. growing san pedro and lophs is legal, and you can partake readily. In fact it would take a real effort to get caught for using cacti, most people keep it on the down low . The site name 'mescalinegarden.com' is a bit egregious but again, probs not gonna singlehandedly lead to scheduling especially considering i've seen things like 'cactus incense' sold on gumtree I think the pendulum is more likely to swing in the direction of banning cacti that it is for legalisation of mesc for personal use

    Sacred gardening in the media

I agree, but the government definitely doesn't seem to I think there's two sides to increased exposure though. As far as scheduling goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I'm sure Liam's intentions were good, and he had no control of what was published, but it's hardly a constructive article as far as convincing people change is wanted or even a good idea. The only thing going for it is cultural use, but it's to the effect of 'people are tripping on home-grown drugs, some of which were smuggled into the country, and sometimes they have bad reactions'.'

i hate to mention it, but does anyone else think articles about using and growing psychoactive plants on ABC news draws the wrong attention and is a step towards scheduling?
  4. as opposed to a plastic tube? there's a silicone tube attachment too for the volcano, but obvs it's not really for walking around with either i've tried the plenty, crafty and volcano. not the mighty yet. volcano was easily the best of those imo. crafty was meh. plenty was decent. mighty seems like the best portable one though magic flight launch boxes are absolute trash.
  5. do you rate the mighty over the volcano?
  6. they can, but the cactus would need to be pretty big, say 2.5m+ in a 70L grow bag to fall over if you're talking about the woven bags the only thing I can think of is that they're heavy and if you use large stones (as drainage in the bottom for example) and move the bag around alot it can tear the bag eventually, so you might be better off using expanded clay which is lighter too

Khat and road side drug tests?

this is a good question, i've wondered this too. I'm guessing, but i'd say there's a fair chance of false positive on an RDT. one of the primary metabolites of amph and methamph is 4-hydroxyamphetamine, which is further metabolised into norephedrine. Cathinone shares the metabolite norephedrine. I'm guessing they swab for 4-hydroxyamphetamine in the saliva tests, it's possible norephedrine produces false positives Then again, I doubt chewing khat or driving after chewing khat is illegal, but I have no idea

    Guerilla mycology

This doesn't make sense to me: "The reason why people are out “spreading this mycelium around is because we all feel the corporate thing coming and we don't like it,” he adds. Steve claims to have single-handedly created hundreds of magic mushroom patches in the US: “This is a way that I can make the experience more available. But there are a lot of people doing bigger and more elaborate things.” not defending 'the corporate thing' by any means, but I don't think commercial interests in magic mush will make it any harder to go out picking than it already isn't

shroom gun virtue signalling < established bulk methods which are only marginally more effort edit: not trying to be negative towards people's good intentions, but I honestly don't believe this would do very much. Kinda like the 'pick n flick' myth
  10. One time I felt like I was skiing down the mountain of whipped cream on the side of the isi box. Funnily enough, this was the time I realised I was wasting my money.

    Guerilla mycology

surely shooting spores from a water gun is pointless - if the environment is correct in that area, they will already be growing (and sporulating)

    Meditation next to Sacred plants

The plant is adding its unique quality, isn't it? There's a reason people use betel and tobacco rather than just lawn clippings.

    Meditation next to Sacred plants

Depending on what you consider an 'altered' meditative experience, and how you define the presence of psychoactive plants within this context, there are countless examples. In Bali, the canang sari is an active meditation involving offering tobacco and betel nuts (amongst other symbols) to Acintya.

  17. I'm no Acacia expert, but I'd try cutting the apex and pruning before I sprayed PBZ to prevent an acacia plant getting too leggy. maybe an antispiral pot can keep it from becoming rootbound for a while, but it will want to be in the ground eventually. PBZ is banned for everything but ornamentals in aus. It seems like there's a product life cycle for a lot of these agrichems where eventually toxicology evidence becomes too hard to ignore and they are swapped for something less toxic, with less evidence of harm or with too short a history of use to say otherwise. as far as PBZ in cannabis goes, no one has studied the effects on health of smoking treated plants, let alone the illegal crops saturated with it and sprayed with it to increase weight and prevent mould. considering it has showed some neurotoxic effects, it's a confounding factor in the 'weed causes schizophrenia' claim imo. PBZ and triazoles (and imadazoles) are reproductive toxins and antiandrogens, something that was also attributed to cannabis.

    Urgent Harm minimisation alert

Apparently it's causing blurred vision, tachycardia, delirium and hallucinations. Sounds like anticholinergic toxicity. assuming a weed is the culprit, it sounds like tropane alkaloid poisoning. datura or another nightshade are a good guess anyone for spinach and poppyseed salad?

    CO2 mycelium bags

Have you seen those bags of mycelium that are supposed to release CO2 into greenhouses etc.? (I'm not recommending this product, I'm using this pic to illustrate what I'm talking about) Does anyone know what species is used in these bags? Second hand info I've heard is that someone threw the contents on the bag in their garden and it fruited turkey tails. The producer of the pictured ones claims the mycelium they use was selected because it produces CO2 consistently and doesn't produce primordia. Could be helpful info, in my (limited) experience, Trametes doesn't like to form primordia invitro (aka without ample fresh air exchange). anyone tried using these?

    CO2 mycelium bags

Pretty sure they're using turkey tail mycelium.

    Sumatriptan Drug Reaction

did you have migraines or cluster headaches @Glaukus ? Have you ever used mushrooms to treat them, and if so, were they more effective than sumatriptan?

    Sumatriptan Drug Reaction

sumatriptan isn't DMT, it's just structurally similar... If you took an MAOI (BAD idea) with it then you'd basically just be increasing the risk of cardiac side effects. PEAs and tryptamines are different classes of drugs. IMO you can make no inferences regarding ur sensitivity to tryptamines from these sumatriptan side effects.

    Urgent Harm minimisation alert

I assume the objective of this press release is to inform people like users of PST, or people who would pass on the info about the risk of poisoning to PST users (like yourself). In that sense they should have mentioned all relevant info including that thebaine is the culprit. That said, it can't be easy to inform a broad audience about a drug, hoping the info gets where it needs to, whilst mitigating all harm. Eg., even though the press release and media coverage are hardly glowing reviews, it wouldn't surprise me if some people become curious and try brewing it for the first time as a result. It's a utilitarian choice on the part of NSW Health. Probably from their perspective it's the most likely way to dissuade people from doing it at all. Then again, most people can fill in the blanks with a 5 minute google search, so it's no secret.
