    Meet up: Perth

I'm keen 2 actually make it to a meet now I have my wheels back, but won't be able to be much until after exams (1st/2nd onwards)
  2. Just some good info to know if you eat tuna. Greenpeace recently posted their "4th Canned Tuna Guide. Each year, thanks to you guys taking action, more & more tuna brands are switching to sustainable fishing methods." (Greenpeace - 2012) 2012 Canned Tuna Ranking

    smoking v vaporizing

I originally bought mine direct from VaporGenie.com, but AustralianVaporisers.com now have them available for the same price ($55) with less posting distance.

hahaha so true, that was pretty fun with the MFLB. yeah keep it alight for each bowl, then fold the paper tab over to put out the wick. there is a bit of a knack to it at first with tilting the wick for bigger/smaller flame & knowing how big you want the flame to be, just like there is a bit of a learning curve for the VG with getting the right vaping temp + air speed; but once you get the hang of it, the combination works amazingly well.

....yeah, to the untrained eye, it looks like you're smoking crack... hahaha I think all the VG's (glass, wooden, metal, wire) work on the same principal of heating a ceramic filter with a flame. I use a lighter to get my Beeline going but after that hardly use any butane (which also improves the taste imo). But you have to carry some whick around if you do it this way. If I had the spare cash & vaped more than I do I would consider getting an iolite, or dabuddah for home use (tried one a while back, rocked my socks)

If you haven't already bought one, consider this. MFLB was cool, but the batteries were a pain. Normal batteries don't work & the ones that come with it are only good for 3 to 6 bowls (at a stretch, the last few will be slow frustrating tokes). This may not be a problem if you just want something for a stealthy vape or two, but I found this way too annoying for my purpose and ended up giving it away after being caught out a few times & having to smoking from a can. If you want portability and price go for the classic wooden vapor genie. $55, Way more reliable, only needs a lighter to operate & is nigh indestructible. I've had my classic VG for nearly three years and it still works as good as new, I can't believe I wasted my money on the novelty of having a MFLB when I already had a better vaporizer for half the price.

    Rare Crests

Most cacti I know of have a crested form, just some are rarer than others. The availability of crests will depend largely on where you live, in you're case (US) there will be a much wider availability than here In AU Some of the more common crests I've noticed around here are T.peruvianus, cereus sp, mammillaria sp, euphorbia lactea, echeveria sp, opuntia sp, echinopsis sp, gymnocalycium mihanovichii & rarely seen but in au are T.Bridgesii & L.W. (This is by no means a conclusive list, just some I've seen in au pics or for sale). Variegated crests do exist, but it's kinda a double rare and even less common than either on their own.

    Rare Crests

Cresting or fasciation is a form of mutation and occurs in many different plants (as well as cacti) and happens when the apical meristem (growing tip) starts to grow laterally. There isn't a set number crest forming species that I'm aware of, due to the inability to directly confirm the absence of cresting in any one species.

    Meet up: Perth

I also thought there was going to be allot more people there & kinda agree with Jwerta about the tunes, even though I love psy... Spewin I didn't bump in to ya JW, we ended up resorting to the car stereo for a while & daannnnnng those tracks were bangin! I even had one of my mates saying they were the best he'd heard all night, although he wasn't very sober... so I dunno about the reliability of his claim; but I thought they were good

I like the set up between the rocks, looks great, can't wait to see the flowers develop. That sucks about the rock over the fence, there's only one logical thing to do...

    Meet up: Perth

I miss the bush... We still had a good time, but I really missed being amongst the trees (even though I knew I shouldn't expect it, I still missed it). That aside, I got to party with my mates and catch up with a few SAB members; the view of Perth was amazing & the setup was one to rival some of the biggest raves I've seen pics of, from around Perth. I'm looking forward to something a bit more chillaxed for the next meet & plz let there be grass & trees! haha

    Meet up: Perth

Yeah, the way I'm looking at it, it's going to be a festival, that plays tunes I actually want to hear for a fraction of the price ($30 vs $120-$160). Also I don't have to drive all the way in to perth! this will be different for every one though. Shame some of you guys won't be there, hopefully see you at the next meet, now I'm driving again I can get out the house a bit more n actually make it to them! For those who are still going, look out for a guy wearing a Demon mask with glowing red eyes, I'll post a pick when I get home, gtg 2 class.

    Meet up: Perth

Some things everyone may like to know. Simon Peterffy 25/10/2012 As mentioned before, entry $50 or $30 with costume. Simon Peterffy 25/10/2012 After looking at some satellite images of Red Hill & having some knowledge of the area I'm really struggling to understand where a "good area for camping" will be... Neither would I personally advise leaving anything unattended with what will be close to if not more than 1000 people @ this event... If I sleep at all on friday night it will be in my car. I agree with you BT "This is not a doof anymore". But I still can't wait for tomorrow night, it's going to be an awesome event The car park is huge and literally right next door to the auditorium. (the red gravel path on the right is the entry & only a few meters further in is the top edge of the auditorium + stage below. The second photo is from the bottom of the car park. Pleas note, I have no affiliation with this event & am not trying to promote it or bring it down. If anything I'm trying to give you guys who are considering going a non bias idea of what to expect.

Ambient's Forest of cacti & other plants

    Nice big grasshopper.
  20. Well, it's not really a forest, but my small collection is growing steadily. I'll try to keep a selection of amateur cacti porn coming in over the summer months, enjoy! Here's some Cereus peruvianus crests I painstakingly collected today. I'm still pulling out tiny splinter thorns from my hands / arms which feel like a pincushion; but it was worth it in the end The owner said the mother plant is 20+ yrs old, what a beauty.

    Meet up: Perth

I think you'll be missed & missing out BT I Went for a ride earlier today. Red Hill is actually pretty cool, defiantly not going to be like a usual bush doof, but I really think its going to turn out to be an awesome event. Here's some photos of the land that surrounds the auditorium. Please note, I have no idea if any of these exact locations will be used.

    Canned Tuna Guide

Unfortunately now days you will find allot of sea food contains low levels of toxic chemicals & not just from what is discussed in the video above. Another big contributor is plastic waste that breaks apart in the ocean. This plastic doesn't actually break down chemically for a very long time, the particles just float around until they wash ashore or get consumed by filter feeders (have a closer look at the sand next time you go to the beach, you might be able to spot a few grains that aren't actually sand). Some of the plastic petrochemicals are absorbed by the filter feeders which are then eaten by their predators concentrating the chemicals slowly as they work their way to the top of the food chain (us). As a species we are exposed to some of the highest levels of toxic chemicals through what we eat, and that's not just for sea food... but thats another story. All this talk is making me feel like going outside & planting some more veggies in the garden

Ambient's Forest of cacti & other plants

The guy who I got them from wasn't a collector, but did appreciate the plants ornamental value and wasn't so keen for me to take too many cuttings, I felt like I was kinda already pushing my luck with a second crest... even with this said, I might visit some time in the future & see how it goes, but I don't want to go strait back, banging on his door for more. If it works out I'll let you know.

Cheers man, It's good to see another fan of zenon and the likes on the forum. bwahahaha Just noticed you're sig! 'Understandments' cracked me up when I heard it. "What about the cashmere sweater babes over the road, with their swishy little skirts n all? Would they be from your inner psyche or mine?" Have you listened Reactant's new album Encapsulate? I've been meaning to buy it, but keep spending all my money on cacti *facepalm*
