    Pseudoephedrine

So first thing Tuesday i hit 2 chemists for 12x 60mg pseudoephedrine tablets. You might want to avoid this in future with the online pseudostop project rolling out around the country, two purchases within four days could be the last time you buy psuedo hassle-free which would be a carnt. I agree with foolsbreath, ephedrine is much better for a mood elevator and for its scalp-tingling goodness - and its something like $3 for a stick of 10 tabs in bali bali! too bad pseudoephedrine was restricted without much research into the purported reasons for its restriction. After they made it S4 a study proved that most of the methamphetamines in Australia are being imported, not being made from Sudafed. psuedo still is S3, larger pack quantities were relegated to S4 - and the majority of speed here is made within Australia from pseudo, this has been discussed before

    Going to the Doctor

Strattera has been recently been place on the PBS for ADHD, which means if you convince a doc/psych that you have ADHD you can get it at the PBS subsidised price (~$30). If not, a friendly doc can prescribe it privately for ~$100 a month. It's hard to convince a doctor that you have ADHD in your teenage/early twenties, I know someone who has tried multiple times *rolls eyes*

    Going to the Doctor

? Neither of these are available in Australia. Atomoxetine (Strattera) is the only other NRI I know of beside reboxetine (Edronax), and it is tres expensive if you haven't been diagnosed with ADHD. Boxing? Team sports? Motorcycle? Surely there will be some physical activity out there to get your heart really pumping again. If you get a script for an NRI, your problem may fix itself with the pills but for long term results, you may need to make some lifestyle changes.

    Going to the Doctor

I don't think the doc would understand/believe a story about low noradrenaline levels... I would say something like: 'I've been feeling really crap lately, with anxiety (insert other symptoms here that are applicable). I think I might need an antidepressant, however I have tried/heard about the SSRIs I and don't really like their side effects. I've been reading about edronax and would like to give it a try, what do you think about this?' Don't come across as knowing more than the doc, this will usually make them switch off. Remember that most ADs are on the PBS, and the doctor will not prescribe if they think it is not warranted.

    NEWS: Deadly pain-relief drug recalled

Prior to about two months ago prexige was available in 200mg and 400mg tablets, one day novartis turned around and said they were discontinuing these strengths as they found 100mg had similar efficacy with less side effects - it smelled too much like they were trying to cover their asses in the wake of the COX-2 / heart attack scare that happened with vioxx, so it was suprising that this was not the cause of the recall. Alas the folks who died and had shot livers were taking the 200 and 400mg doses. The lag in this information coming to light I think owes itself to the nature of post-marketing surveillance, that this liver damage appears to be a long term cumulative effect, which echos what SirLSD has said. While the TGA has had its eye on prexige for a while, I also think this is a beat up - I mean it hasn't been recalled in any other countries where is has been approved for longer and presumably used by a lot more people. You have to remember that the majority of people that take prexige IME are old with multiple medical conditions and medications, something that the TGA would have taken into consideration. Did someone say drama queen? I think maybe it was a public service announcement more than anything

    HPV

Hey Evil Genius, you should be right to kiss/do what ever you want with this girl. HPV is very common and most people that have it will be asymptomatic. I think this high risk comment is in regard to the subtype of HPV (i.e. 16, 18), from which these types have a higher risk of causing cervical cancer. But, being without a cervix, you don't have anything to worry about. Go for gold! ... mind you, STDs like to hang out in groups... just some food for thought.
  11. Aye, tort speaks the truth. While I'd like to say that my viridis is a picture of health, they have actually gone to a better place as I slowly killed them over the course of two years in perth. You really should get one of those mini greenhouses from bunnings, in winter in full sun the moisture in the pot can maintain humidity and in summer with a shade cloth draped over the greenhouse or partial sun... those fuggers get real baking hot in full sun. Actually, I think the primary reason these fine specimens lived for as long as they did is because I brang them in for winter (this was before I made the greenhouse investment). Viridis is a high maintenance bitch in perth.

    Glass particle contamination in Cannabis

Asbestosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, its your own body immune system that causes the damage rather than the particles themselves, though I don't doubt for a second that this has the potential to lead to some fibrotic lung disease akin to asbestosis/silicosis

    Elderly 'making suicide drug'

I don't personally see this as a problem, it is a personal decision and I'm all for pro-choice. Erowid has a page regarding synthesis, which is surprisingly easy (providing you have access to sodium metal)

    NHS heroin 'will protect women'

It's not that easy. As Anodyne alluded to, methadone/buprenorphine programs are aimed at removing the patient from the drug taking culture (environment, people, crime etc). From a cost/benefit point of view, it makes a lot of sense for the government to subsidise a bit a methadone and related health/counselling services... the decreased crime rate and health costs combined with increased tax dollars from the jobs obtained by these patients means that the program in Australia pays for itself to the tune of several billion dollars. A loss of opiate tolerance only occurs after an extended period of abstinence, this sort of thing just wouldn't happen with a standardised dose. If it did we would have methadone patients ODing all the time. Your tone reminds me of my attitudes towards opioid replacement programs when I first heard of them, before I had worked in a pharmacy or ever met and talked with a patient. You wouldn't even know if your collegue or next-door neighbour was on the program. These are completely normal people who look just like you or I, would have jobs and relationships and feelings and dreams and good days and shit days just like everyone else. For what ever reason they started on the program, all patients are moving on with their lives. I am the first to admit the program is not perfect, but is the best one we have and it's safety and efficacy compared with other programs have been proven around the world for decades.

    Black death and bridgii's

I have had my first run in with the 'black death' over the course of the summer... it seemed to arrive on an eileen cutting. It has had a breakout on a few of my cacti (all bridgesii) and slowly spreads for a week or two, after which the cacti seems to mount a defense against it and 'walls' off the infection. Alas I am in perth and I have been withholding water for the infected plants...apart from that I cannot offer any further advice but I'm sure someone else can... I hope everything turns out for the best darkhorse

    Anyone taking Nexium for GERD?

As soon as you compromise the enteric coating of nexium (by splitting the tablet) you reduce the bioavailability of the dose ingested by 50% due to the acid lability of the compound. That said, the PPIs are a very well tolerated group of drugs but nausea/vomiting/headache are common side effects.... nonetheless the severity of your side effects is puzzling. I would go back to the doctor to eliminate other conditions... ever had an barium meal/endoscopy? Could be pyloric stenosis/hernia or as amulte pointed out a H.pylori infection/induced ulcer. Out of curiosity what other PPIs have you tried? IME they all have similar efficacy.
  22. What would ultimately be gained by the exercise? A shift in public opinion? To get more people to take MDMA? To prevent further deaths from MDMA/drug cocktail overdose? As long as a drug continues to remain illegal, the majority of folks are going to demonise it and look at it as dangerous. For compairson, the NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen and the like) kill over 2000 people in the UK from complications of GI bleeding, and you can buy them at supermarkets and service stations ferchristsake. I love the idea of underground marketing/propaganda, but perhaps used against political targets (as has been traditionally done) would have a greater effect?

    Ice junkies

Considering the amount of X this guy had taken, he wasn't really in that bad shape. Besides the severe agitation, rigors and elevated blood pressure he was relativel normal (well about as normal as a suicidal drug dealer can get). You gotta remeber that MDMA is primarily a pressor substance affecting blood pressure, heart rate, body temps etc - he would have died from heart attack/failure rather than a terminal wig-out The midazolam is commonly used for sedation during ventilation/induction of anaesthesia, it's short half life means only acute withdrawal symptoms. After they extubate the patient, it's mainly short term diazepam for acute withdrawal symptoms (from the midazolam and amphetamines), which only causes dependence/tolerance with long term use (1-2 weeks). The thing that worried me was that they really try to push amphetamine overdose patients through the system. This is one of the short comings of the public health system, this dude had one appraisal with the resident psychologist and was discharged asap. Speaking with one of the nurses on the emergency ward, the vast majority of amphetamine overdose patients were repeat offenders, which speaks volumes about the problems with this dirty drug and the current system.

    Ice junkies

I'm doing my rotations at the major hospitals at the moment. 3 weeks ago the case I studied was a dude in his 30s who tried to commit suicide by ingesting 60 MDMA tablets. Standard treatment for amphetamine overdose is immediate sedation with IV midazolam and subsequent intubation for a day while the junk gets out of their system, followed by withdrawal with more benzos.
