Forum upgrade happening in the next few days.
oxydiser replied to Torsten's topic in Site & Forum Matters
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but when logging in - even if I tick the 'remember me' box the forum does not remember my login details. A minor gripe - is anyone else getting this or do I need to change some settings? I am 'remembered' on other fora and was 'remembered' before the upgrade here -
The time has come (the walrus said) to lop some of my cacti. Having everything in pots is necessary for a happy wife but as some of my cacti get too big it gets nigh on impossible to move them and some of them are also screaming out for a re-pot. Prices are for tip cuttings. Postage not included Short-spined Peruv? - 150cm - $100 Macro? (obatined from Melbourne) - 70cm - $50 Seed Grown Bridgesii - 140cm - $100 Eileen's Sister (Bridgesii which is not Eileen but displays similar fatness/spination) - 120cm - $90 Bridgesii x Scop - 110cm - $90

Where is a good place to buy cacti in Perth?
oxydiser replied to chilli's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I can vouch for the old boy at the Melville markets, he's not there regularly but has a good selection of cacti/succulents -
I'll be bringing a smorgasbord of trichs!

I'm there this sunday If this is all go then we should we roll this into the other meet as they are two weeks separate, then have the next meet 3 weeks into feb, yes/no?

Good point occidentalis, looks like Kings Park is out. South Perth foreshore sounds like a better option then! I'm not attached to the 28/29th, if you can't make it throw up a day that works for you!

It's about time we had a meet! See http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=30488 to sort out the particulars.

Good idea myco! I've just done a mass cull of my Urban Tribes bridgesii, selling bulk lots (+3m) for $200 - pick up only Can do smaller amounts too.

Very sad to hear of gom's passing. I too got my first cacti from gomaos many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed reading his posts at the old AE forums and his short stories - he seemed like he had seen a lot of the world in his time. It's a shame I never got to meet the man who got me involved in ethnobotany in the first place. RIP

I'm selling a few cuts that are getting too tall for their own good. Winter storms are coming and the old lady next door is starting to ask questions Psych0 $40 for 40cm cut (first buyers will get a >40cm mid cut) Fatty Boom Batty Scop $50 for 40cm mid cut (or 1 x 35cm tip) PM if interested!

A couple left that need to be gone.... For Perth Metro only (pickup/delivery - no postage) I'll include an extra Urban Tribes clone bridgesii 40cm cutting if you buy two cuttings.

Can deliver to west coasters (perth metro) or collect at a mutual meeting place if that's your thing

If they were red composting worms then this won't necessarily work. These worms only live in the moist humid environment of the worm farm and will dry out and die in the 'wild' so to speak, especially given the type of soil (read: sand) we have in Perth. I had the bloke from the worm shed come and kit out my hard-rubbish found worm farm with worms (I think 2000?). It's a bit on the exxy side but essentially left me with an established worm farm from day dot. They burn through all the green waste I can throw at them!

You have an urge to go bush and die of starvation like Chris McCandless? I've seen the documentary and I think the concept is awesome but it would be kinda hard to prescribe to in the real world. You would definitely have to supplement your diet with supplies brought with you, limiting the amount of time that you could go bush for... which appears to be about 113 days if you are trying to emulate that doco. Remember, you have to eat around three times per day to survive. You'd be spending most of your day trying to find food to eat! Don't forget, there aint no moose here in Australia either! On day 43 you would have gone hungry! To echo Santiago's post about a dreamer all full of bravado and empty of preparation, take a look at one of the last things he wrote, quite sad actually

I would agree with most things on that list except for MSG* and dairy, both which occur naturally and have been unequivocally proven to be safe (although certain people have sensitivities to one/both). Edit: after reading an interesting article on the discovery of MSG I learn that even human milk contains glutamate! And dairy! *recovering MSG addict

Tolerance? Maybe you need to allow more days between days?

How Long Until I Can Plant a Trich Cutting?
oxydiser replied to migraineur's topic in Cacti & Succulents
IME in the Perth summer a good callous takes about 1.5 - 2 weeks to form, tops. You're looking for a uniform white, corky development which is quite hard to depress with an index finger. Straight into a good cacti mix after that and start to water infrequently about another week after that. Again IME, I find not watering after potting up a cut makes it take ages for roots to form i.e. you may as well have left it sitting out of a pot. This may present an issue with cuts in a more humid environment but in Perth's hot and dry summer it has never been an issue. -
About 4 years ago I planted a big lot of maidenii at a certain park in South Perth... still going strong and most plants are ~3m high now! South Perth Council has been looking after them well!
