  1. Those Youcamp places sounded really good Boof, you've mentioned them a few times and I was always keen.

I think we really need to find a place very soon and put it to the vote.

Got any more info? Links/ prices  on the Youcamp.

I propose Boof look further into it and  let us know what he finds :)

And then we see who's in favour etc.

Anyone else keen for Boof to look into the Youcamp option?

    We missed ya HD

I think we could probably find a nice spot that doesn't need to be booked probably closer to esk though... Along the Brisbane valley rail trail there's plenty of spots I'm sure we could happily camp with no dramas.

If we do a camp I'll cook us a mad feed!

Sounds awesome, where ever you think is good, I'm down for :)

  3. Sounds good to me :)

Sorry I missed the last one.

I was trapped down in NSW doing some flood repair work and didn't have any phone or internet reception. I was supposed to come back Friday, but only got back Monday.

Once again, very sorry I couldn't get a message through with my appologies, but very keen for the spring meet :)

Does that mean we need to book a campsite? Hopefully not during the school holidays then. Maybe we should camp somewhere by the river near Fernvale/Lowood.

Did that plenty of times when I was a kid. It's pretty good if you get a nice spot.

  4. So the consensus is there IS no consensus. LOL

    Tomato, tomato I guess...

I feel like I'm learning a lot here though. And it seems like there's always exceptions to the rules too.  The Hispanic surname Pachano may just be one of those words that doesn't fit neatly into convention.

Personally  Im starting to like somewhere between pash-a-no-eye and pa-chan-o-ee

  5. My Botany professor once told me that pronunciation of plant names is rather subjective but I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the pronunciation of everyone's favourite tongue-twister 'pachanoi'.

It seems there are 2 main schools of thought, Pack-annoy  and Patch-annoy, but after looking a bit deeper into it I'm wondering if there's a third, more appropriate pronunciation that may be worth considering, and I'll offer some points for and against.

To begin with, it's fairly common knowledge that the Latin binomial stems from the surname of a prominent Ecuadorian botanist Prof. Abelardo Pachano who assisted Britton and Rose in their famous Andean cacti expedition.

So I guess from there it's important to consider how the surname 'Pachano' is pronounced to begin with, or more specifically how HE may have pronounced his own surname.

I could be wrong here but from my 'research' E8O7cBtXoAABYva.jpg:large   it would seem that in South American Hispanic the surname is most often pronounced  more like either:

'Puh-CHAN-no'  or  'Pa-SHANNO'  which would turn out a bit like pa'CHAN-noy  when latinised. (not Patcha-noy/pat'char-noy)

    https://www.howtopronounce.com/spanish/pachano

https://www.pronouncekiwi.com/Anibal Pachano -look for the Spanish versions near the bottom of the page.

Here's some examples of spanish pronunciation I came across online. The Spanish examples are a bit of a surprise, but somehow sound kinda 'right' at the same time, well at least to my ears.

Anyway, love to hear other people's takes on this, is it all just subjective to our own personal preferences or have we been saying pa'CHAN-noy wrong all this time?

Seems like there are plenty of options for the pronunciation of the word pachanoi anyway...

  6. LOL, Good stuff Boof! You've earned yourself a top reputation here and we're with you all the way.

It's all too easy to get scammed these days, and we all have to make a stand whenever it rears it's ugly head. :slap:

  7. Happy Mother's day you MuthrF****S LOL.

I only mention this because its a particularly good time of year to plant certain winter annuals. Flowers and veggies and the like....

Keep those thumbs green abd your hands dirty :)

  8. Hey mate, loving this this epic discussion thread of yours, I'll have some time to finally read through it properly very soon.

Just a quick question for anyone who may know, -Is it OK to use water trays with Ephedras? As-in the water collection trays under the pot. To give them better access to moisture and stop them drying out as fast.

Sorry if this is a complete noob question, but yeah it's definitely not an area I have much knowledge in.

    Cheers for the help

  9. Funny but I just happened to be watching the Murdoch media tonight (what an experience that was) and they made no mention of it, only banging on about some slip-up from Albo last week.

If it had come from a Labor person, that's all you'd hear about for the next 6 months.

  10. Was the cross made in Peru in the 1930s? That sounds a bit suss.

Maybe if both plants were from that expedition and were more recently crossed. Anything's possible I guess but the whole story seems just a tad off in my humble opinion.

    Could definitely be a mix-up.

  11. Good luck n take care to all affected.

I know there are a few of us in those low lying areas like Nth NSW and below Wivenhoe dam etc.

Let us know how you're coping and I'm sure we can help out in our own little ways when the time comes.

  12. I've seen scop x bridge hybrids that come out looking just like that. With the super short spines and all.

You'll never really know what it is, but you could probably just assume it's a scop hybrid.

As it gets more mature you might form a better opinion on it.
