  1. Ok fellow eco-shamans, if you see a wind turbine or solar power plant, or anything eco-friendly in Australia, I want to see it too! The idea that we can't go clean and green is BS, let's just see what we ARE doing. I'll go first... Here on my Island we've had renewables for more than 10 years. enjoy!

Awesome! That's the first time I've seen that. Is it really just 1 year?

Ocean heading for mass extinction, scientists warn

It's 'all or nothing' in the minds of most deniers. It's the same mindset of a problem gambler heading for ruin. They just never learn, and they ruin everything for everyone. Not so long ago I heard a scientific report that warming/acidifying oceans will cause the extinction of many krill species, the very foundations for which all the oceans food chains are built on.

    Happy winter solstice

I saw the most incredible DOUBLE RAINBOW this morning, right above the place I work (which I just announced my resignation from). I knew it was a sign of good things to come, but right on winter solstice!!! Now that's I call a 'SIGN'!
  5. Oxfam: Developing Countries Pledge Bigger Climate Emissions Cuts Than World's Richest Nations http://www.enewspf.com/latest-news/science-a-environmental/24696-oxfam-developing-countries-pledge-bigger-climate-emissions-cuts-than-worlds-richest-nations-.html The title says it all... It's a disgrace that we are dodging our fair share of the responsibility, while developing countries like China and India are putting us to shame. It's time we took the lead on such big issues. Thousands have rallied in support of a carbon tax around Australia. Join the stand against those who want to hold us back.

    This is the electric car

Weather or not they produce more greenhouse gasses is debatable, besides, not all electric cars have batteries. These early battery models might be carbon emitters, but as technology advances things like that will be overcome. The way these companies make money is they slowly feed the new technology out in there latest models over 50 years or so, I guess if we had started 50 years ago we would have a real winner by now. Also, the whole point of an electric car is so you can source the energy from renewable sources.I guess this applies to the energy used in construction of the car too. Once you are using carbon neutral energy, it doesn't matter how much energy you use to construct or run the car because they would still be carbon neutral, especially if a portion of that energy is used for carbon sequestration. I personally like the air powered car and I reckon we should be building them out of hemp but any start is a good start IMO,

    The People Cull

Things will gradually get worse for the majority of people too. My partner always said that bogans are more likely to procreate and raise unfortunate kids likely to go down the same path. That baby bonus is really encouraging the bogans to breed IMO. I like the idea of sending single parents out to look for a job when the kid turns 1yo. That'll make 'em think twice LMFAO!

LOL. Couldn't have said it better myself, no seriously, I lack those skills! You're a being of some 'Higher intelligence' mate.

    The People Cull

This is all a bit 'alarmist' in my opinion. There is plenty of discussion going around about future over population and no-one is seriously suggesting culling. This author is simply another shock-jock conspiracy theorist who makes money from bullshitting gullible folk. There are literally thousands of authors of crap like this, they are what you might call "dodgy sources of information".

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

I won't be doing any informing, that's for our speakers. I'm just helping link people with those in the know. I can't imagine it will get political either. Personally I don't trust the carbon tax that much because I think it's too weak, but I'd rather do something than nothing. I totally agree with your points though and yeah, definitely 'Power to the People'! At the risk of sounding granola lol. I think most of us probably have more in common than we realize sometimes.
  12. I like it HEAPS! I like it because it's cool and unique. It also gives me a laugh although I don't know why. I wish I could make stuff like that. Keep it up

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

I know how to fix the problem. I've just come back from our Natural Resource Management meeting and we've organized a climate change workshop with guest speaker to inform and educate farmers and members of the community about the issues of a changing climate. You're most welcome to attend and find out what you can do and how you can prepare for it. Nothing hippie about it.

Hey this is really good, WoodDragon, thanks for digging out all these facts and figures. I find your replies very informative. Shame you have to put up with so much abuse from those screaming caged monkeys who can only hurl shit around. May I ask, do you see a moral/ ethical responsibility in using your role in science to speak-out about climate issues? I pretty much do. The way I see it, if I won't get off my ass and do something about it, I can't expect anyone else to. -I'm the one with the background in science! If I had a background in say engineering, I'd probably be speaking out about dodgy building constructions or something like that. It just happens that science is currently faced with the biggest threat ever facing humanity lol. I guess I didn't know what I was really getting myself into all those years ago.
  15. As you'd expect, those who run the Fukushima nuclear power plant have been misleading the public as to the severity of the crisis. It now turns out the Japanese Government was also withholding the truth from the public. They knew there had been three full meltdowns after the first week but didn't want people to know. It is also revealed that Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) is facing losses of around $18 Billion. Once again, mega rich power companies will happily lie to protect profits. People all around the world are protesting against nuclear power and it's finally getting through. Meanwhile babies is Chernobyl are still being born with tumors and deformities. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/9368975-japan-admits-3-nuclear-meltdowns-more-radiation-leaked-into-sea-than-originally-reported http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2011/05/20/bloomberg1376-LLGVU91A1I4H01-1GMTG3G48DALEPHC4VPBKQBB7T.DTL

Well here's your problem. You're talking about weather and Climate Scientists are talking about... (drumroll) CLIMATE! This is an unforgivable mistake hutch. Go back and start from the very beginning mate lol.

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

Ok, well these are valid points but as far as I undertsand, we can expect more extreme weather events. So some years will be unusually cold, some unusually hot, some extra dry some extra wet. Overall, the gradual warming of the planet is causing this climatic chaos and hence the term 'Global Warming'. But the term Global Warming has been superseded by the less confusing term, "Climate Change". And this is what we're seeing all around us every year. Not only are we seeing it happen already but we're able to measure feedback effects like drier conditions in some places resulting in more bush-fires that release more carbon. They've been predicting this for 50 years and now it's happening. The fact that we can now measure feedback effects suggests we've already waited too long to get out of it easily. Every day we waste is another few months of extinctions and human and economic losses. To think that there's some sweeping conspiracy that encompasses all scientists and all countries, and they're ganging up on the poor old oil companies is ridiculous. It's quite simply laughable. Scientists are encouraged to speak out if they disagree with another scientist, but they have to be open to the fact that they may also be proven wrong by the next scientific findings. Scientists love debate, it helps them narrow down the fact from the fiction. As for the camels. I think the only way we're going to help things now is to take a multi-faced approach. Do whatever we can, how ever we can, when, where whoever we can because all the little things add up. Especially when you're on borrowed time. Honestly hutch, these are well worn arguments, you must be aware of them.

    Cactus soil

You can buy Cacti mix at a home warehouse kinda store etc. Most are a bit crappy so get a good one. Break the bag a tiny bit and have a look at the mix. Start with one that looks like what you were expecting, because some are not what you were after. eg some are 95% organic matter.

More like 'A serial troll with an identity crisis'. Look, you made your point so many times now. Either add to the debate or stop trolling my threads.

Yeah, thanks for the insult mate, and thanks for trolling all my threads.

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

Lol. I only wrote that because you keep writing things like this in my threads all the time... "Most of the topics have been covered in the Global Cooling thread which got moved to Chill Space. So don't see why this thread shouldn't be merged so we are not chasing our tail. " Look familiar? It should because you wrote it! Looks like you can give but you can't take, even when it wasn't serious. I knew you wouldn't like a taste of your own shit medicine. You guy's aren't skeptics, you are outright deniers. Face it, no evidence will ever change your minds. That's not very scientific now is it...

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

You guys aren't worth trying to educate. We dealt with all that in another thread. Meanwhile our carbon emissions are reaching new record highs. I just can't believe that we are letting our politicians get away with it. I don't think Labour will deliver the tax, they will try to wriggle out of it at the last minute, like they've done before. Anyway even if I'm wrong about that the tax doesn't go far enough. All this debate over tiny cuts. Will Australia face sanctions in the near future? As the power shift takes place we could be really held accountable. I 'd say America will definitely be made to pay. RIP America.

Poor countries cutting more emissions than the rich

Lol. All this hoo-ha over how a carbon price will destroy our economy and it's 'chicken feed' really. People who support the carbon tax do it out of principle. And a man without principles is like, like... well just look at Tony Abbott. Lead a mutiny over a carbon emissions and now continues to do everything he can to help the big polluters. His own kids will suffer from the effects of climate change but does he give a shit?

    Climate evidence is in.

How can you say the title is 'Alarmist' WTF? WFDAYO So the latest report has been released (nothing alarmist about that). It finds that things are erring towards the bad end of their earlier predictions. Sorry mate but that's not alarmist, that's just telling you what the study has found. (If you had actually read the study you'd have realized that by now lol) The real issue is that the latest report suggests that things are looking worse than they had previously thought. At the same time a separate body of scientists in a different hemisphere has measured that we are emitting higher levels than ever before. To me its a worry yes, am I was genuinely interested in a discussion, but am I being alarmist? No, my very next post says "People, Don't fear". I take the glass half full approach, while some of you others are like 'OH SHIT, IT'S ALL OR NOTHING, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE IN A GREAT BALL OF SHIT! RING THE PANIC BELLS! AAAAAAAAAGH! WE GONNA DIE!!!" LOL Seems like your judgement is up the creek and high on crack Hutch. Thanks for trolling this thread. This one's over IMO, time for the latest news. Did you hear about the rallies supporting a carbon price? That's pretty awesome IMO. I may have to look into that one next.

This is simply a thread about the latest pivotal research (Which you haven't even bothered to read). There's a lot that you don't bother with really, like backing any of your claims. Which makes me wonder why you're even contributing. Give us something compelling mate, or piss off (pardon the french).
