I have a thelogonus that I plan to transplant into a large hanging pot, as it is one of the prostrate growers and would look great hanging down like a Selenicereus. I'd like to see it crossed onto the prostrate peruvianus. I should be able to do the cross myself some day, when I eventually start getting flowers that is.

Tiny Warriors as a first line of Defence!
Halcyon Daze replied to Lorax's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
Bluetongues need homes too. Over the years I've made a number of 'rock piles' to provide permanent homes for Bluetongues. I don't really know if they are being utilised but we do get plenty of Bluetongues. I assume cats/ dogs would have a very hard time removing Bluetongues from these bunkers. I put the largest rocks down first and make sure there are a couple of large central chambers, after that I just pile it over with more rocks, making sure I don't block access to the larger chambers. I usually put a couple native plants around it too like Lomandra or Plectranthus. I think Spider Lilies would also be good to plant nearby because lizards could (hypothetically) drink from the water that pools in their leaves. I also keep a terracotta dish out that is kept topped up with water especially for the bluetongues. Usually around Christmas you will see a heap of babies getting around. -
Just means we should tax them even more. Why give up our resources to some foreign businessmen who are going to ship both the product and the profits overseas. Not to mention, give our jobs to foreign workers, F**k the environment and F**k our farmlands. We're getting roughted like bubba's bitch.

Investment in coal has doubled over the last 12 months despite the coming regulations, and those who threatened to shelve projects are among the biggest investors. "There is little evidence that companies have lived up to their threat to shelve projects, and some of the biggest whingers have been investing like mad." "Billionaire and prominent Liberal Party donor Clive Palmer has been one of the most vocal critics predicting damage from pricing carbon. Yet his $8.3 billion Galilee Basincoal mine in Queensland was one of the biggest projects to pop up on the Deloitte Access database last quarter." http://www.smh.com.au/business/mining-investment-boom-exposes-hypocrisy-in-claims-of-sovereign-risk-20111030-1mqba.html Nice to know the sky hasn't fallen in once again.

Murdoch has been on the back foot in recent months and even News Corp's private shareholders have been voting strongly against him and his sons. This latest move is a last ditch attempt to hinder the media inquiry and gain full control of Australia's news supply. Don't give our country over to this snake! "giving our public international TV news network over to Murdoch would greatly increase the media mogul’s corrupting influence and hurt the ABC" https://secure.avaaz.org/en/murdochs_secret_abc_attack/?aTplFab Thanks for your time!

Why thank you, I'm very passionate for the cause, and I won't stop until we're all living at peace in our HEMP HOUSES! lol

Santiago, whether you're storing wood/biomass or burning it instead of using coal it does help. But the problem is that the earth doesn't have enough land to plant enough trees on to make up for all the fossil fuels that have been moved from below ground to the atmosphere. Plus with land is becoming ever more needed for food production, it's simply not a silver bullet type solution. Planting billions of trees is definitely part of the solution but more-so is a shift away fossil fuels. (Hence the carbon tax) Another point to consider is that when a paddock or forest is cleared of its trees, more carbon is lost from below ground than above, so to make up for that we would have to be planting out two paddocks to make up for one cleared paddock, plus an extra one for the fossil fuels we've burnt. Trees are also very slow producers of biomass compared to something like hemp. BUT, if all our houses and furniture were made from hemp based particle boards etc we would actually be lowering the carbon dioxide of the atmosphere, so it would definitely help. However, someday, somehow, all the carbon we've released into the atmosphere will have to be solidified and removed, and probably buried again. The energy required to do this will be massive and will inevitably have to be sourced from renewable energy sources including biomass. There's no one single answer, we'll have to do every little thing we can, it all adds up. It's all possible and within our reach, it's just people like Tony Abbott and his evil media mates that feed a constant barrage of misinformation, that keep us from saving the planet and living in hemp houses like God intended.

I totally agree, Whether it's a carbon tax or profits tax, Australia should be getting it's fair share from the trillions they make. Imagine the roads and hospitals we could build, and all the flow-on jobs from those things. This is why I have no respect for Abbott, he sides with big business instead of the People of Australia.

A friend s interested in planting some Trichos in a tropical region,up in the mountains and with fairly high rainfall, think Atherton Tablelands. I guess the high rainfall is the main concern for the cacti so we were wondering which Trichos deal with higher rainfall the best, (and which are the worst for that matter)? What other planting strategies can be used to help ensure the don't fall victim to the evil black rot death?

Looks like some sort of foul witchcraft to me. If you ever want to see your phone again you should put the note back and go cleanse yourself in some sort of naked ritual involving candles and goat's blood. You really shouldn't have burnt that note either, your phone could be burning in hell by now.

Bach's cello suites are always a winner. It really pays to have good speakers when listening to classic stuff, so you can actually feel the music.

Looking for a few plant leaves with establshed predatory mite population
Halcyon Daze replied to mysubtleascention's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
you can find your own predatory mites easily around the neighborhood. Collect a bunch of different leaves that have **Domatia** structures on the underside. Domatia are like little homes, evolved especially to house predatory mites, some are surprisingly obvious. Whip out your microscope/ magnifying glass and you'll find all kinds of predatory mites living inside these little homes. Usually different trees have different predatory mites, but not all trees have domatia. Tiny but very important biodiversity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domatia How is Bulgaria these days? -
My sins of the past really caught up with me yesterday when my awesome girlfriend found some old pics on my computer from that bloody NOOK site. It was nothing disgusting but she was really hurt and I was quite ashamed. Now she's cracking jokes at my expense but I know she is disappointed in me. I really don't know what to say to make her feel better. Is there anything I can say or do to improve the situation? (mainly for her I mean) I just hope there's no more lost files on my computer, she'll be watching me now
-
Wow, I can't express how much I appreciate all your feedback, she's a delicate creature and I think I know just how to approach it now. I'll have her singing my praises again in no time lol. I think I was more worried than I needed to be.

Ok well thanks 4 that santiago, I feel better about myself already. Yeah Torsten the nook has porn in "the Compost Heap" but you need the password to get in. It was called "Nice Boobies" or something like that. I didn't think about the consequences of those nice boobies.

She's awesome, I don't deserve her.

That's exactly what the media wants you to think and you've swallowed it hook line and sinker. These people know exactly what they want, an end to wall street corruption and they represent the will of the vast majority of the population. This is the kind of democracy that can bring real change and that's why the media is scrambling to hose it all down.

Will 'The Black Death' one day be available on the black markets like anthrax? Scientists have sequenced the DNA of the Bubonic Plague and hope to reconstruct the organism for research purposes. "The researchers hope eventually to modify a living plague bacterium so that its genome is identical to that of the agent of the Black Death." http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/13/science/13plague.html

Thanks everyone for the replies and encouragement, glad you enjoyed. It is psycho x Super Pedro which came from some dude with the initials PD lol Cheers n happy grafting -
How did it go? Good luck with it all. Here's a pic I took ages ago showing some of the awesome biodiversity of the area. A cliff face covered in flowering king orchids surrounded by grass trees, Giant Spear-Lilys and Araucaria pines. Such a magnificent part of the planet.

Anything with the botanical name edulis means edible (in some way). Catha edulis is a good example of this. Another good edible leaf is hemp and I'd be personally quite interestd in any hemp breeds selected/ developed for this purpose
