Yep this article is totally ignorant. Not to mention hypocritical and racist as has been said. It is from the daily mail though - complete with pictures of mugabe looking smug, just to make sure the reader forgets for a second that the british empire rape and plundered on a global scale for old britania. I think it is possible to say that you don't believe in beliefs, and doing this is not itself a belief - it is simply knowing what you're thinking. If you have to believe that you're thinking something when you really are thinking it you would also have to believe that you believe you're thinking it and so on to infinity, which makes it impossible to rest your belief on anything in the first place, and without having any convincing laurel, you also cease to exist. This is Ego death - we've all been there, wondering 'Did I just think that, or did I just think I thought that, or did I just think I thought that I thought that?!?' Usually followed by, 'Fuck this, I only wanted pretty colours and patterns!'. But then you come back, gratefully reborn into your Ego, knowing you're thoughts once again, and not having to believe you're having them. The end of the trip is realising what you're experiencing is coming from the physical senses once again and not from Nth-level though loop. If we didn't know what we are thinking we would always be in ego death, and this is not the case I think. The ecstasy is great when we realise 'I'm back! If someone does break in, most likely it's to try to steal something and get away fast. Most burgulars dont want ANY confrontation, but if confronted with an angry person with a weapon, the chance of violence is many times what it was before, no? In this particular case the guy was outside, stealing petrol from an old bomb. There was no immedate threat of violence at all. He took off as soon as he heard someone coming. Why are there so many shootings in the US? The more weapoons there are around, the more likely other weapons will be used too. By your logic we should all have weapons around just in case?

If you have a sickle in your hands when approaching a potential bogeyman - even if it's just for show - there could many disastrous consequences. I mean this is someone who has broken into your house, possibly with weapons or backup of their own that they'd be much more likely to use if they see you with such a powerful looking weapon. It could make a non-violent situation violent immedately. Or assuming they grab the sickle from you, what then? Or what if you feel threatened enough to use it yourself? You're gonna seriously fuck someone up with a huge blade like that - something that is likely to come back at you in more ways than one. Or even if they ran away when they saw you holding it, I'd be wary of them coming back with something bigger and better. You just don't need that shit floating around... You mentioned that the guy had already taken off when he heard you open the front dor, and you being a tall person with a loud dog, prolly not much more would have been required. I understand the need to scare the guy away from doing it again, but I'd be surprised if he came back anyway... if you yelled abuse at him he prolly would have pissed off never to be seen again. But recently a few frustrating factors - and by bottling many small things up I let my aggro out by threatening to bash a cousin of mine at a family function, then I put my fist through a restaurant window! I identified several other causes too, the main one being that I had been pumping iron a lot (every day) and then stopped suddenly. It was also the fifth day in a row I'd been blind drunk - I normally avoid drinking, but we'd had a rare run of 5 special events in a row. Anyway, I consulted some other friends about it, which really helped me get out of that abusive path I was on.

I agree about the crappy CGI scenes cheapening the doco. Though I thought it made some interesting points about ecstacy being a 'consumerist' drug - pay the money to the man, get your dose of happiness for a short while. No questions asked by the people involved, or even the drug itself. It showed how the younger rave generations are literally being manipulated in marketing campaigns by the clubs, the dealers, the music industry, even hip advertising within the scene. It really rings true when you look at the over-accessorised-flouro-candy-ravers of today and the ultra-materialistic values in the scene itself. Skazi (the psytrance Pepsi salesman) is the perfect example - did anyone else see them recently? Their live show had all the fanfare of a touring rock band - including fans on the decks blowing their hair back while they posed! - yet the music and perfromance was utter shite, and the young crowd lapped it up!? We walked out 10 minutes into it! Hahaha. I noticed they locked the thread over at Oztrance immediately afterward so no-one could say anything about it. I have had this experience repeated about 5 times this year already - younger generations of people in love with celebrity or 'brand name' worship, when the music itself is a pale splinter of what it once used to be. The doco also spoke about how far removed the consumerist E generation is from the historical Shamanic use of plant psychoactives. Rick doblin made a notable cameo as well as other from the MAPS organisation, mainly talking about MDMA as a PTSD treatment. All in all it was an interesting watch I thought.

Cool, one band that I forgot to mention that are *really* good at what they do is Virgin Black. They are a symphonic-operatic-doomy-gothy-metal kind of band from Adelaide, who've had major international successes but are barely known here in Oz. Yeah so many people praise that Kreator gig! I missed out on that one, was in Sth America at the time - where I got to see Fear Factory do their first ever show in Ecuador. They put on an excellent show. The last track was a vocal solo by Burton C Bell without the band onstage. T'was brilliant. I was in the seats for that Biohazard/Korn gig. I tried to talk my way onto the floor but the security monkeys wouldn't have any of it. Even though it was half fuckin empty. A couple of dudes jumped down but were pummelled by the cunts and then dragged outside.

When it comes to metal there's plenty of great Aussie bands to choose from! (Destroyer666, Alchemist, Blood Duster, Beanflipper, The Mark of Cain, Gospel of the Horns, Franeknbok, Dreadnaught, Alarum, Nazxul, the list goes on and on) Internationals worth a mention: Impaled Nazarene, Nevermore, Devin Townsend, As I Lay Dying There's been a constant stream of old 'has been' internationals touring Oz these last couple of years - Tesla, Exodus, Testament, Alice Cooper, Saxon, Winger, Sodom, Megadeth, etc. Anyone been to any of these shows? I saw Biohazard supporting Korn a few weeks ago which was alright (scored free tickets - wouldn't have paid the $90 for it!). Vodafone arena was mostly empty! And Korn had bodyguards onstage with em for the whole set!

Not sure which threads you are referring to - but the process of stressing plants to encourage greater alkaloid production is pretty common practice around here and not immoral IMO - especially if it does not risk the life of the plants - as this latest method seems not to. What is abhorrent is people tearing off bits of wild plants or trees here and there in a quest for alkaloids without consideration of the health of the plant. Stressing a healthy plant at home that you have raised and cared for is a different matter, IMO. I think this news is MASSIVE and I eagerly await any further developments. I think Carthaginensis has long been waiting for this!

I just read in the Age this morning that he was the first to isolate the active ingredient from 'peyote mushrooms' !!! LOL! To be fair, perhaps it is a simple typo and a comma has been left out. Though that would make the line '...identified and synthesised the active ingredients of peyote, mushrooms and a Mexican psychoactive plant...' - which seems far too vague. interesting thread! I am also experiencing such synchronisities and co-incidentals. A recent big one for me: :queues up twighlight zone music: A couple of months ago I was out on the town for a big night out with a mate when we were apprached by some likely types with the opportunity of aquiring some second-hand pharms (alprazolam and diazepam) - something neither of us had tried properly before, so we figured what the hell and ended up with some. Later in the night I met a stunningly attractive girl who reminded me of a celebrity but I just couldn't place who. As I sat there in awe of her beauty I realazed she looked a lot like Michelle Williams (Heath Ledger's missus, the one who was on Dawson's creek). It got me thinking and talking about her and about Heath ledger and their films etc - a rather odd conversation topic for me. At the end of the night we decided to bring it to a cumfy close at home with some of the goodies we'd aquired. Having never done them before we mistakingly took a (minor) overdose, immediately passing out for 16 hours or so and totally zonking ourselves for the rest of the weekend. It was really quite pleasant and a new experience for us both. A day or 2 later there was breaking news everywhere of Heath Ledger's overdose - primarily on the same drugs we had tried for the first time and OD'd ourselves AT THE SAME TIME and I had been thinking about him during the night as well!! Spooky. Sometimes little half-thoughts or dreams I have will maniefst themselves into reality, or I'll have a peculiar thought about a person/place/thing and then low and behold that thing will make prominence in reality in some form a short time after. Like I'll think about an old band I used to like completely out of the blue and the next day they'll announce an album or tour. Or I'll hum and tune only to have that song come on next on the radio. If I only had a dollar for every time I've flicked the telly over to the cricket and proclaimed to myself - 'don't turn it over, their about to get a wicket' - and then there is. All you can do is laugh, as you'd feel crazy trying to explain it to others that it has happened again. It's also humurous because it's a twist in the fabric of reality and cause-and-effect which is usually seen as concrete and mutually exclusive amongst all of us. Cheers dudes
