What's wrong with my grafted Peyote?

Looks like you've got orange rot and scale problems. There's plenty of info online about treating those problems.

Rye Grass Seed or Rye Grain in Brisbane

You don't have to use rye. There are numerous other grains that you can use and you often see them mixed together in wild bird seed which is what many people use. I have used wheat for years without problems.

    Caapi and iboga (established)

Not true. I live in a Mediterranean climate and my caapi plants are growing nice new green leaves at the moment even though it's Winter. My psychotrias are left outside too and they currently have pretty looking berries on them. I keep my iboga inside as a house plant though because it gets too cold. Psychotria carthagenensis thrives in this climate, however, psychotria viridis needs some kind of greenhouse setup otherwise the lack of humidity ruins the plant. I wouldn't bother striking any cuttings in the current weather though unless you were using a heated mini greenhouse or something similar.

    Pressure Cookers

All American pressure cookers appear to be what everyone covets. They even make sterilisers and autoclaves for medicine etc which can be run on gas or electricity. An electric model would be handy so you can turn it on and not have to hang around watching it. If you need to find out the postage costs then add it to your cart and proceed with the next few steps and Amazon will tell you how much the shipping will be. Better to do it sooner rather than later because the Aussie dollar keeps on going down.

Did you end up checking out Amazon and buying a pressure cooker, Yawning Man?

    King Oysters

These are great when they're sliced and grilled and then dipped in Korean bean paste (doenjang).

    Pressure Cookers

Amazon has the best prices on pressure cookers, even though you still have to get them shipped from overseas. If you don't have a big budget then you can order a budget pressure cooker, such as a Presto, but if you have the funds then get yourself an All American Pressure cooker. The All American 921 is a popular model. I have this model but I'd like to order a bigger one such as the 941 model. The All American pressure cookers are tough, they'll outlive you and they also have less parts so you don't have to buy and replace seals.

Random guy in the yard today

There is never any good that comes from having catha edulis in your front yard. I've known a couple of people who had issues with this and heard stories about more. I had the same trouble with Indians when there was a curry tree in the front yard. They'd come at night and try to sneakily steal it but then I'd wake up thinking someone was breaking in. I'd open the front window and they'd race back to their car and drive off. They'd fuck up the tree by snapping branches off it too. My friend is having a similar problem but it's a mango tree instead of a curry tree. It sucks when people come to your home and start stealing stuff.

My mother in law pruned my caapi :(

Oh, man. I know your pain. I had my two caapi plants pruned the other day before I could say anything about it or move them. There would've been a bunch of material I could've used to make cuttings with but it got put on the verge for a pick up and taken away :'(

Any experienced peeps in the cairns region?

Buy the digital version of Let's Grow Mushrooms and watch that. It's a really well made video that covers the basics as well as some more advanced stuff. 10/10 would recommend. It's only $9 USD too!

    Medicinal Cultivation Laws

I asked AQIS about importing some cultures once. From what I remember I would have had to had them labelled and inspected which would've cost me money. I then thought it'd be easier and cheaper to find someone local who had cultures. I was able to buy a blue oyster culture from a local source which I fruited and cultured on agar. Another thing I did was buy a mushroom grow box from Bunnings and when it fruited I took tissue samples from the mushrooms and put them on agar. If you come across mushroom grow kits then it's a good way to grow a bunch of mushrooms from which you can take spore prints and tissue samples.

    Meet up: Perth

I'm keen for a South Perth meet up. Camping meet ups are just too hard to get lots of people to commit too.

    Australian melatonin supplements (question)

Modafinil is used for shift work sleep disorder. Perhaps you could ask your doc about it. You can order it online from overseas too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modafinil
  15. Show us your grows and setups, guys! It'd be good to see what people have done. Maybe the rest of us can learn something from you.

Killing a plant that's originated next door..

Speak to your council. If that doesn't work and if you want to keep evidence to a minimum then perhaps you could cut off a tip somewhere and then let that soak into a tiny container of Roundup. You should also ask your council about borrowing a cat trap off them.

Show me your edible and medicinal grows and setups!

I am unable to grow at the moment but I'd love to grow decent amounts of enokitake and king oyster because they are so tasty. If you can find them in the shops then they're bloody expensive!

    Cheap Laminar Flowhood any good?

Yeah, I love my flow hood. It's only little but it makes life soooo much easier. Going back to using a glove box would be torture. I plan on using my flow hood for tissue culture when I am able to as well.

    Cheap Laminar Flowhood any good?

Man, go onto Amazon or Ebay and buy some furnace filters to use as a prefilter. If you can find something just as good at a cheaper price here then do that. To quote RR "Use the highest quality furnace filter you can get because it will save the expensive HEPA filter. I use the super allergen, 1 X 20, by cutting the packaging so I'm using only half of it at a time. My flowhood is nearly 12 years old, runs several hours per day and is on the original filter. I've probably changed the prefilter 100 times."

    Cheap Laminar Flowhood any good?

I have a small flow hood. I clean the room with bleach and then I leave the hood running for a while whilst I shower and do what I have to do. To make the expensive HEPA filter last longer I bought a furnace filter and stuck it over the air intake to use as a prefilter.

What cool stuff have you found at bunnings?

I've found many varieties of chilli at Bunnings. Saved me from growing them from seed this year.
