midivan and medium don't have the same last letters, but you get the general idea. I get the same thing where you have to do a double take to confirm words on a page that you've misinterpreted. Another thing I get that's similar is looking from one side of the room to the other and suddenly having a word appear in my head, usually something unexpected like "hell" or "sex". Have to go back and scan the room for several minutes before I can actually locate where I read the word and whether I read it correctly. Might have actually been "help" or "exit". Might have appeared on a sign on a far wall or on a magazine cover lying on the table next to me. Might have been from my peripheral vision or might have been straight ahead. Can frustrate me for minutes until I can locate the word.

There's a school of thought about teaching kids words before letters because the recognition of the word makes more logical sense than trying to assemble abstract concepts (such as letters) into meaningful words. Maybe a similar thing to this?

  2. Jeez, is it just me or do other people get incredibly horny at this time of year?

Every year without fail, once spring has really sprung and the flowers are in bloom I'm thinking about sex all the time.

Is it just our natural mating season?

Anyone else feeling the urge to spread their seed? What about the ladies here? What are your takes on it?

  3. I reckon the universe is a strange loop. If we zoomed out far enough our solar systems would resemble tiny particles making up a greater whole (the universe) which if we zoomed out even further would appear as, say, a sub atomic particle and exist in conjunction with many other universes/sub atomic particles which as we zoomed out further would make up atoms which would make up molecules which would make up matter which would make up stars and planets which would make up solar systems which would make up universes. Nothing too unusual there - certainly nothing that hasn't been said before, but the bit I think is the doozy is that the universe we live in is actually the same one that we'd observe if we zoomed out far enough. Likewise, if we could zoom in far enough down through the quarks we'd actually come across our own universe, existing down there simultaneously.

Now, in terms of the expansion. I reckon that like on a revolving disk a point on the outside of the disk moves at a greater speed than a point near the centre (or possibly the inverse - I'm making this up on the fly) the larger versions of our universe (which of course are the same as the smaller versions of our universe) have a much faster passage of time so if we were to observe our universe as a tiny particle from out in the larger version of our universe we would perceive the expansion as happening in a fraction of a fraction of a second. So, while we perceive our immediate universe as expanding very slowly we are really just perceiving a very slow version of a particle coming into existence and disappearing again as we have observed in tiny particles in Quantum Physics. Likewise, the tiny particles that we observe appearing and disappearing are really universes having a big bang, expanding and eventually dispersing into nothing. For the smaller versions of ourselves living in those smaller universes it appears to take eons.

So we're all simultaneously existing and not existing in the strange loop that is our universe.

    Who's with me?

  4. Hey Jabez,

I met you at the Ottways camp last year and I thought you were a really interesting guy. A bit intense, but generally good fun and with some really interesting ideas. Just thought I'd put that out there as there are surely other people who dig you too.

I mean no psychological mind game or organized religion has managed to convince me that there is any logical purpose for us being here. The meaning of life to me is simple, this part of the universe has the right chemistry to create life so there for we are here, it's that simple! There's no higher purpose for any of us.

    My take on this is:

If there's no meaning to life and we're just machines created by genes in order to help them live forever and our consciousness is merely a construct to enable this machine that we are function more effectively then... we can do whatever we want. If you want to smoke pot all day every day - do it. If you want to shag inanimate objects - do it. If you want to meditate - do it. If you want to travel around the country living out of your backpack - do it (which you did, which is awesome).

Life could be a test set for us by a god or it could be that life is just shit a lot of the time - I don't know. Enjoy the bits where it's not shit - that's really the only part we've got control over.

    Anyway, hope you come good.

    Peace.

  5. Hi MagicalMedic.

Welcome to the forums. I don't want to come across as a prat, but I'm sure I will.

I've noticed about 20 posts from you today, many of which are dragging up old threads that we've all finished with (generally a no-no by unwritten rule unless you're adding something useful and relevant).

Now this post complaining about the forum you've only just joined. Chill out a bit and get to know us a bit before offering advice.

Hope you stick around. Enthusiasm is great and I don't want to quell yours, but I feel I wasted a good bit of time reading your irrelevant posts tonight.

    Peace.
