    show big plant small pot

when I started off growing plants, I was obsessed with re potting, and always used quite big pots... than my mom showed me that, if you fertilize often, and keep the water up, it's possible to grow big plants in small pots. these day's my back is far too sore, to lift big, heavy pots, and on top, I am lazy at times when it comes to re potting. but the primary reason is that, if you send out plants by mail, the clients prefere, a big plant in a small pot. and yes those big plants in small pots, get blown over by the wind all the time, I probably had to stand up those pots 100 times since I got them, hehehe. but mostly, I put those plants into plastic litter trays, as the crate holds them upright in the wind, and I can bottom soak all the plants in the crate... btw, if you re pot a pot bound plant, either cut with a knife the bottom of the root ball, or just tear the roots between your fingers, this "pruning the roots", will produce better root formation in the new pot, than an un pruned root ball. edit: the round pot is 75mm in diameter and 100mm tall, the plants are between 450 and 500mm tall.

topic should have been posted in the exchange forum.

    Seedling germination and care thread!

I agree with jox, and also don't like river sand as a medium. but some people do alright with sand, but they use fertilizer more often me thinks... I use (searls) seed raising mix, and sieve the top layer, so it's ultra fine, than sprinkle the seeds so they are embedded (after using the mister, the mister makes the seeds settle down), but not covered by soil.

    Seedling germination and care thread!

leaving them somewhere dark is never a good idea. don't think, they don't need light at the beginning..., and then I will move them once the germed,... because you might forget, and you did forget to move them... I heard as well a story here from one of the cacti specialist here, who said, he got old lazy to germ seed, to sprout because he did place the seed into full sunlight for a couple of day's befor sowing out. I check on my seedlings at least every two day's, and although some people would idealy never open the container (in fear of introducing pest), I do it so to avoid any chance of drying out. young cacti seedlings love water, heaps of water. I give them 2 h direct morning sun, and the rest of the day, just bright, but I don't use take away containers, but flower pots with sheets of glass on top (or a dome made out of a soft drink bottle). the take away containers create more algae problems then pots...
  8. I wonder how much alcohol one can consume without, ever experiencing alcohol cravings or withdrawls? I stopped drinking for sometimes up to 7 or more years, but alcohol is the only medication, I feel save with, regarding all my disorders. the side effects, and the effects of all prescription drugs I tried, stop me from ever going down this route again... I want sometime though a break from all the suffering, and alc does that for me. I could never have just a few drinks, like 3 can's of full strength, or to just drink once a week... my question, if I have 7 full strength beers one day, and than two day's without a drink, will I develop withdrawls or cravings over time?? i'm on this regime, since my last alc break, which was for 6 months or close to. but had only 3 drinking day's so far, and I don't want to get hooked on alc again....

    Tree Spirits

I hope you protect your lungs, mine are damaged from wood work. Australia has many toxic timbers, like red bean for example, although saw mill work means the wood is still wet, and this means the dust settles much faster. I can't see any tree spirits, only the left and right side of some nice grained timbers...

    Question about USDA zones

if we could have space to describe the microclimate, the whole thing would be very accurate... for example within, 100m of my place, everything is frost free, because they are on top of the hill, but I am where the frost collects, on lower ground. however, my big trees shelter some parts of my garden from the frost, and so does the house itself. so I got as well frost free climat meaning different climat zones...

in brisbane, look directly up in the sky

thunder, you have to tell us if you can still see the object once it get's dark. probably venus, just read it's very bright currently. venus is located 10 deg from the sun, regarding this site: http://www.nightskyinfo.com/ I just searched for venus with my binoculars but could not find her. but, I saw something I never have seen before, a daylight satellite!! I saw just minutes ago, a bright fast moving object not too far away from the sun.

What did you do to your cacti today?

there are so many schools of thought, regarding "how to secure a scion" but this one is my current fav, I wonder if it will stay my fav, so far so good. pedro in the back centre, shows how the stock got prepared a few day's in advance, so to avoid sunken core issues. than I just used electrical tape to tie down and secure the scion!

    Profitable plants

that's a good idea el president, I know even some spots were a person takes from the wild, and sells to the aquarium shop, something which could pose the danger of relocating disease. anyway, I have an aquaponic's fresh water pearl farm, so I literally swim in money, hehehe (unfortunately not).

    Question about USDA zones

I agree totally with tort and eatfoo, maybe the climat and location field should be modified to allow a longer description. instead of: Climate or location:oz dry 240m, zone 10 we could give accurate descriptions: Climate or location: mostly dry, but some monsunal floods, alt 240m, zone 10, -3 (rare morning frosts) to +45 deg C, but got some sheltered frost free patches, australia

enjoying alc, in non addictive doses, how?

look, it's not easy for me either, but it's better, you think it will be easy to withdrawl youre selfe than difficult. I get the chills alternated with hot flushes, shakes all over the body, foul mood, can't proper sleep for weeks, pick up new ocd symptoms, and so on... BUT, the worst withdrawl is over within a week of stopping. AND, THAN YOU ARE FREE AGAIN. many of my friends are alcoholics, but they are as well thinking, it's cool if I stop drinking and pot. but those "friends" which always offer you a drink, even if you said you don't want to drink, you have to separate from. like my ex brother in law, he hated the fact I stopped Tabaco, so he kept asking me to smoke for months on end, till I finaly gave up, and smoked one. this c word of a person, seduced me to smoke, what a c. I smoked many years after that... but now I haven't smoke Tabaco on it's own, since many years. all you need is will power. ask your self who is the boss? you or the booze & weed? it's time you are the boss again of your own body and soul!

that's why quitting alc and pot is so rewarding (and so easy), solid turds, lot's of energy, cough goes away... my heart goes out to the people who can't stop or give it a break. but those would be probably worse off with other drug(s) as well. I believe alc and pot (maybe cook with it, if your lungs are bad) can be used safely. quitting alc and pot can be learned, and it gets easier the more often you have done it.

legal poppies new now with tek!

eschscholzia californica papaver rhoeas glaucium flavum lactuca virosa, lactuca serriola (not poppy family, but still listed) papaver orientale (READ POST #27, it seems to be illegal in some states) argemone mexicana argemone albiflora just to name a few, please add your experiences. lactuca virosa, produces quite strong, effects, compared to papaver somniferum though, it doesn't feel as nice and cosy. effects last for quite a while, administered via pyrolisation, of the resin. argemone mexicana, as above, but feels spooky and dark on top, of the main effect. feels like opium, but with a darkness which some people describe, datura like. some junkies, think it's awesome stuff, but I would dose very low, even if you have tolerance. it will hold you for quite a while, a bit like dmt.
