The Trichocereus bubble bursts and whole families are forced to eat nothing but psycho0 hybrids. The Chisars almost save the day with the creation of vacuum baked spine crisps, but the cactus economy crashes once again due to the fetishisation of Trichocereus and viral videos of Pornhub member 'cactus jerk'. All columnar cactus are prohibited Australia wide following an incident involving HNs big dick and Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Serotonin Syndrome - Opiates(?) + Moclobamide
Black Rainbow replied to Acacia's topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
Ez test is a bit of a rip, it's cheaper to look for the actual reagents. Last time I looked https://reagentkit.biz/ seemed the cheapest Aus option for a mix of standard reagents, although the reagents they offer aren't comprehensive. There are also a number of reagent colour charts with some variability in what they say the colour reaction is for different substances. If you get an unexpected reaction it is worth cross checking your results, although I do think the dancesafe reagent chart is one of the better ones. Similar situation with the tripsit contraindications chart. Just another harm reduction deficit. I still dream of a collaborative harm reduction review body including peers with lived experience, service operators, medical practitioners and scientists. -
I thought the event was great, I particularly enjoyed the live group chat as this is something that you can't get at regular conferences. Kudos to Nick too, he was a fantastic host alongside doing a lot of tech - I woulda been stressed as but Nick seemed to handle doing two jobs at once really well. Looking forward to being able to rewatch the content on Youtube, especially Caine's talk. Best Aussie mushroom harm reduction resource I've seen to date. I <3 EGA

Serotonin Syndrome - Opiates(?) + Moclobamide
Black Rainbow replied to Acacia's topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
Right, when I was thinking of seretonin syndrome I was just thinking of extreme cases. I guess this just reinforces what I said about drug education deficits. I still wanna learn more about seretonergic contraindications! I wish there were more detailed MAOI harm reduction resources. We did a tiny bit for the conseracacian.com DMT project and we didn't include any food contraindication info. Torsten understands this stuff better than me and this is an excerpt from him about this; "MAOIa affects serotonergics and tyramine. MAOIb affects stimulants and tyramine. eg it is perfectly safe to take speed after MAOIa, but it could be fatal to take MDMA. Similarly it is safe to take many antidepressants while on MAOIb, but any stimulant could kill. Tyramine is metabolised by both, which is why it is completely safe to inhibit one or the other, but not both. Most of the food restrictions are BS. They are based on someone copying the non-selective (ie both A and B inhibitor) medication pamphlet. Worse even, most of those aren't even that dangerous as long as the inhibition is reversible. MAOIs bind to MAO. If they let go after a certain period of time then that means they are reversible. If they don't let go then they are non-reversible. The latter means the body can't deal with whatever problem has arisen until new MAO is made which can take a couple of days. And that's scary. Selegeline is one of those medications that scare doctors and most of the dietary warnings are copied from this and hence totally irrelevant. Harmalas are reversible. They let go after about 4-5 hours, which is why aya trips end so abruptly. They are also selective for MAO A. A number of experiments have shown that it is impossible to get into a tyramine crisis while on harmalas, but people like to blame this for the crap that goes on in their heads. If you do take MDMA while on harmalas and you survive the first 3 hours then you're fine. But that 3 hours will be quite difficult for the ER physician. For moclobemide it might be a little longer. In any case, the food dangers are completely exaggerated, which obscures the real dangers." -
Serotonin Syndrome - Opiates(?) + Moclobamide

Cimi, you placed psilocybin in your 'seretonergic hallucinogenic' category. Are you suggesting there is risk of seretonin syndrome from an MAOI + psilocybin combination? This would surprise me considering psilocybin is pharmacologically very similar to DMT, which is commonly combined with MAOIs. I have read a lot of discussion on MAOI + psilocybin combinations for synergistic effects, too. If there is seretonin syndrome risk in this combination I am surprised I have not read discussion on it before. I think the risk for seretonin syndrome is primarily with seretonergics + irreversible and non-selective MAOI, not harmalas etc. -
Serotonin Syndrome - Opiates(?) + Moclobamide

I feel that it must be more complicated than MAOI + opioid = always hazardous. I would like to know which opioid and MAOI combinations have significant risk of serotonin syndrome, and which do not. Surely selectivity/reversibility plays some role? I wonder if there are some opioids that do not interact so much with the serotonin system. The literature seems a bit conflicted over this from my brief searching. This article claims morphine analogues + MAOI do not precipitate serotonin syndrome and there is some risk of serotonin syndrome with phenylpiperidine series opioids + MAOI https://academic.oup.com/bja/article/95/4/434/302715 This article claims morphine analogues oxycodone and codeine + MAOI precipitate serotonin syndrome https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00482-015-1512-0 This article suggests the main contraindication concern with heroin + MAOI is CNS and respiratory depression but there have been no case reports of this https://erowid.org/psychoactives/health/health_article1.pdf Maybe a Bluelight question lol -
Serotonin Syndrome - Opiates(?) + Moclobamide
Black Rainbow replied to Acacia's topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
Who knows what was in your heroin, but from what I understand the risk of serotonin syndrome from MAOI + opioid combination isn’t from morphine analogues. I read there is some risk with phenylpiperidine series opioids, and even greater risk with MDMA and analogues + MAOI as SayN has said. The fact that DMT is commonly combined with MAOI to make changa or xxxhuasca just confuses things, especially when drugs are mislabelled, used in combinations and/or understood in general categories. It is some complicated shit and really highlights the huge silenced discourse on illicit drug health - why is there no public health initiative that connects this information with the people on the ground? Erowid, forums like this and everyday people are doing a lot more heavy lifting than they should, but even they struggle to clearly explain contraindications around selective and reversible MAOIs. Where the fuck is real drug education?! -
n-methyl-cyclazodone for ADD treatment [REVIEW]
Black Rainbow replied to Acacia's topic in Pharmacology, Chemistry & Medicine
Hi Acacia, If you are interested in pursuing a script I have some colleagues that could likely suggest a psychiatrist in your area specialising in ADD that is supportive of your medication preference and respectful of people with a history of substance use. I imagine you would still need to pay for the initial and periodic consults (maybe every 3 months or something) but there are a lot of advantages to having an above board source. PM me if you're keen and I'll chase it up. Funnily enough I have BP1 and my partner has ADD. The teleheath changes have meant some of our private consults are covered by the PBS when they were not previously. I'm not an expert in how it works but if this was the case for you too perhaps you could also dodge the consult costs. -
I started growing lophs from seed this year because we moved houses and don't have much room. I dropped a whole heap on fancy seed from the EU recently and got terrible germ rates. I'm about to kick the failed containers out of my germination set up which means I'll have some room. I'd love to fill the space with some of your seed

A couple of Acacia IDs
Black Rainbow replied to Rock.0's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
You seem to have the right attitude Rock.0, but I want to make it really clear for anyone reading this that removing living material (and surely in some cases, non-living material) from vulnerable species should be avoided, even if your intent is to propagate. If you don't know what the species is, there is a chance that it is vulnerable. Acacia courtii is a prime example of a vulnerable species. I do hope people experiment with courtii cuttings, but only from their own cultivated plants. I know of three people that have had success rooting Acacia courtii cuttings. As lots of people have young courtii plants that have not yet set seed, and because wild harvesting courtii cuttings and even seed for propagation poses unnecessary risk to this vulnerable species, this cutting technique is an important conservation opportunity. Communacacian describes the method he and Ferret developed; “The bottom 2/3 of foliage was removed and remaining phyllodes were cut in half to reduce moisture loss and stress. I started with around 30 cuttings from varying specimens from young tube stock to mature trees. I used a variety of rooting hormones from powder to gels of various strengths all of which contain IBA (Indole-3-butyric acid), dipping the cuttings in the mixture for 30-60 seconds. I even bought some pure IBA powder and mixed it up with acetone to create my own rooting liquids. Cutting medium: 60% coco coir, 40% perlite Starting in spring the cuttings were placed on a heat mat and watered daily with irrigation in a greenhouse scenario. No striking for months so I eventually turned off the heat mat and somewhat forgot about them. Over the next 8-9 months the cutting happily stayed alive without striking, at this point I basically gave up and the tags outlining the method used on each cutting were removed and reused elsewhere. A few weeks ago my irrigation started to play up and everything dried out a few times until irrigation was fixed. Yesterday, cleaning up the greenhouse I went to remove them and noticed some root action just before throwing it out! So in a nut shell the cuttings did nothing for 11-12 months then a few rooted suddenly. I suspect this it do to the increase in seasonal temperature and possibly due to them drying out sporadically, something ferret had mentioned had happened too before rooting. I think that under irrigation the cutting can take up enough water to survive without rooting and that the temporary drying out forced them into producing roots in search of moisture! How to replicate this without them totally drying out will be tricky but I’m sure it can be done! The other thing to note is that In the last month or so I had moved the cutting from the bench onto the ground, perhaps having them closer to earth has played some part it rooting too. I washed the medium away from one that rooted and it can be seen that the roots emerged from a node, which is to be expected so if you want to try this make sure you have a node at the bottom.” My other friend described his technique more simply “semi hardwood cuttings put into a greenhouse with misting and humidity control.” He claimed a 30% strike rate with this technique. -
A couple of Acacia IDs
Black Rainbow replied to Rock.0's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Hi Rock.0, While removing phyllodes is generally less harmful than bark stripping, searching for plant material that has been removed from Acacias without your intervention would be a more sustainable harvesting technique than removing living plant material from the trees yourself, as you seem to have done in these photos. -
Got a bunch of astros and arios already. Can you suggest a vendor for Aztekium seed?
-
About to have some room in my germination boxes and am pondering what to grow next, any suggestions? Interested in anything rare, psychoactive or weird looking that can be grafted to pere and trichs.

There has been a decline in most forums as far as I'm aware and it seems to be about convenience. People seem happy to forego privacy and top tier information in exchange for simplicity, which Facebook provides. If you put this together I'll give it a go but I suspect you will have a hard time convincing your audience to use it

Lol spot on DJ-MC, we already figured out that there are more references to 'shaman' than just about any other search term being considered. I'm still interested in doing some analysis on this (I think shamanism has particular appeal because it is a cultural justification of psychedelic use which are few and far between) but yeah, most of this material isn't so relevant to our interest.
-
We're hoping to pull a few papers out of the study, in the first one we will deal with a question along the lines of 'how do psychedelic consumers feel about the presence of others while under the influence of psychedelics?". We're planning to frame this with the clinical literature on psychedelic therapy, and other material about online drug communities and harm reduction. I think there will be a number of other papers that come out of it, too. I'll keep this thread updated

Cheers Micromegas! Dr. Bright and myself are affiliated Edith Cowan University's School of Medical and Health Sciences, and we will be using their ethics committee for this project

Does anyone have contact details of any admin/mod team members over at DMT Nexus? I've lurked there for years but never had an account and there is no pathway to make contact outside of the forum. We would really like to use some of their forum content in our analysis.
-
Cheers, I just linked him those three videos. I'll keep you updated
-
Hey John, answers to that question could be viewed as incriminating so people are probably a bit resistant to respond. I'm no expert but I think you are interested in something like an acid base extraction. UTSE and if you can't find the information you want in this forum, try The DMT Nexus. Be cautious, this could be a hazardous process.

Cheers George, I had a quick look at the channel and I'm still not certain which videos you mean. If you can link the specific videos you want translations for here then I will pass it onto a friend who said he would be able to help out

What did you do in your sacred garden today?
Black Rainbow replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Ethnobotany
Getting cold at the new place so I went to check out cheap greenhouse tents at Bunnings, unfortunately they were sold out and not scheduled to get new stock any time soon due to import restrictions with China. Put plastic cups on top of all my sensitive tips instead. I'm sure it will work well enough but I feel at best this is the cactus equivalent of socks and sandals. -
"You are no doubt familiar with the challenges faced by the peyote cactus both in the wild cactus populations and as a sacrament of increasingly short supply among adherents of the peyote faith. Collaborative efforts are underway to mitigate this challenge by two organizations: Cactus Conservation Institute, a 501©3 and Sia: The Comanche Nation Ethno-Ornithological Initiative, the Piah Puha Kahni, Mother Church of Comanche Native American Church 1918 Charter Association. Our shared goal is furthering peyote conservation by establishing a sound and reproducible methodology for cultivating peyote on a large scale. Our cultivation project is intended to produce seedlings for the eventual use as medicine for ceremonial use as well as hardened seedlings for future repopulation of wild localities that have been wiped out. Sia has many years of success in working with endangered eagle populations and eagle propagation, including pioneering innovative breeding approaches. It is the only tribal feather repository. Cactus Conservation Institute is the foremost producer of high-quality academic and field research on peyote conservation since 2004 with a focus on the Tamaulipan thornscrub, the primary habitat for peyote in the U.S. Our interests extend to greenhouse production and cultivation for ceremonial use and to appropriate reestablishment in the wild and the ways we can help existing populations recover from harvesting pressures. Our goal is to engage in reproducible, evidence-based science with studies generating peer-reviewed papers. We intend to validate a marriage of science, culture and religious aspects of the peyote cactus and show that the goals of these interests are not necessarily competitive or in conflict but can complement each other. We already have the people and the skill sets. We need your help to secure a place to perform this work. Our goal is to raise $99,000. Of these funds, approximately $55,000 will be used to purchase nine acres of land adjacent to Sia’s existing location, where research can occur and oversight will be easy to maintain. The remaining $44,000 will buy a greenhouse and supplies necessary to begin our cultivation studies. You can help us solve both the pressures placed on wild plants and the supply challenges faced by future generations of Native American Church members who choose a path of cultivation by making a tax-deductible contribution of any size, large or small. Your support is vital to achieving our goals of peyote conservation through developing sustainable harvesting management and land stewardship practices. We must succeed in our mission while wild peyote is still left in the world. If you would like to better understand why it is rapidly disappearing, please visit our website and that of Sia The Comanche Nation Ethno Ornithological Initiative." https://au.gofundme.com/f/save-peyote

Black Rainbow replied to theuserformallyknownasd00d's topic in Ethnobotany
Did a bunch of micrografts with mixed trich seed to practice with a new set up before I start chopping up arios and lophs. Ended up doing a few cauliflower anyway because I couldn't help myself.
