My guess is it was trigger by the crazy heat wave we had over the last month or so Possibly damaged outer surface cells which may have sent cellular signals to the rest of the plant indicating its time to perform apoptosis Post up some pics

Issue with one of my cacti. Help needed please

If its growing significantly slower than it did in previous seasons, Its possible its starting to stall its growth due to being root bound. Some trichos seems to handle being root bound ok for a few years while others will just stop growing and slowly turn yellow more quickly. This may account for why the brothers and sisters are doing better. or i could be totally off the mark Liquids ferts will fix the problem caused by stalled root growth temporarily but i find for the fastest growth above ground you need space for the roots to expand below. Either Way, Happy Gardening.

The Great Global Warming/Cooling Thread Part 2

Hey @Alice If you wouldn't mind jumping into this conversation, Id be interested in your opinions on what you think a realistic timescale to transitioning from coal to renewable energy would be?
  9. I can appreciate the point your making @ThunderIdeal, you are certainly correct in saying im impartiality leaning towards the current scientific community’s view points rather than conspiracy theories. I choose to do this because good science is repeatable and stands up to scrutiny. In fact the more heavily a scientific theory is challenged the more certain we can be of its validity. Albert Einstein is the perfect example of this. Many scientist have attempted to scrutinize his works, and show it to be invalid, but so far, knowone has been able to come up with a model that is has greater predictive value. The point I was trying to make was that if Sheldrake theories about gravity not being constant are in fact true. He would have been able to prove it to the world’s best physicists and probably won a noble prize for his efforts. But instead he chooses to write books to get his ideas out to the masses without first being reviewed by experts in the field. If you have alook over the criticisms section of Sheldrake’s wiki page it becomes very clear why he is a fraud. After putting out these outrageous claims about gravity, he has moved along to topics like memory. Writing books about the science of memory while ignoring the vast amounts of criticism he received from world leading neurologist. When making the point about large amounts of money corrupts, we should keep in mind that Sheldrake would have made large sums of money from his book publishing deals and i think it’s fair to say if he remained a cell biologist for the rest of his career it would have significantly decreased his income. I do like your train of thought, its important to look at who is profiting off an idea to access how legitimate it is. If Sheldrake theories about gravity are true, who is profiting from tricking us all into thinking it’s 9.8m/s? Some people like to make the argument that academic would prefer not to change the status quo because then that would require whole new textbooks to be written. This argument is often made by people who aren’t aware textbooks are updated yearly, sometimes just to add a single paragraph or remove some outdated knowledge. There is a lot of money to be made in rewriting textbooks.
  10. As titled id like this thread to become full of pictures of animals in your garden so to get things started.
  11. Yer, Rupert Sheldrake seems to be heavily criticized by the majority of the scientific community. I dont understand why a cell biologist would decided to write books about topics outside his field of expertise. Surely he would understand if his theories are credible they would pass sufficient scientific scrutiny and be publish in a respected journal.
  12. Hey Zedo, I have not seen any credible evidence to suggest the flat earth theory is more valid than the current round earth model. But i would be interested to have a look at the maths your talking about. Im not sure how a flat earth would be possible. But if there is compelling evidence to prove it to be valid ill happily change my position. My biggest points of confusion with the flat earth are... How would gravity be generated? How would satellites stay in the sky? Why dont planes or boats fall off the edge? Why dont we have good pictures of the edge? Are the other planets flat too? Christopher Columbus seems to be known as one of the major names claiming the earth was round, back when the majority still believed it was flat. I dont see what motivation an explorer would have to propose a fake geographical theory, when his life depends upon how well he could navigate his way around the ocean. Rather than reading other people's ideas, pro or against the theory, why not test it? It wouldn't be to difficult to make a hot air balloon that could go up high enough to take pictures of the curvature of the planet. Maybe mount a mobile phone to the balloon, video call it, then let it go and see what you can see
