  1. G'day to all the budding mycologists out there,

Yesterday evening I came across what appeared to be two Amanita Pantherina mushrooms growing under an acacia (melanoxylon?) tree in the Wide Bay area, QLD.

Searching the internet I could not find mention of this species in Australia, let alone in a mycorrhizal relationship with an acacia species.

The closest I found were passing references (anecdotal) to A. Muscaria growing alongside eucalyptus trees.

Today I went back (finding the larger one decayed and smaller one almost fully fruited) to take the following photos:

side profile - note veil on stipe, reddish colour of stipe and bulb at base

bottom profile - note white gills

The mushroom has also smells similar to amanita muscaria specimens I have previously located.

Would be interested in confirming my ID of pantherina and hear if anyone else has found this species in australia, and not associated with pine trees.

This combination seems very unique to me.

    Cheers,

    kalika

  2. i'm in the North Burnet /Wide Bay region but more North Burnett is there anyone out there who can tell me a few species of plants/fungii's that I may be able to find in my local area or point me in the right direction/?.

if the rain picks up you might find psilocybe cubensis growing in suitably shaded cow paddocks, although in my experience its too dry and windy in the north burnett. but would be interesting to hear of other local experiences... a trip to the sunshine coast hinterland for a spot of bush walking through cow paddocks might be in order. acacia concurrens might also be present if you near the coast, but its not a confirmed dmt source as far as I am aware.

  3. yeah too dry yet tweed river north to mary river i'd say, even in a patch that was fruity august into summer here in 2007.

but the clouds are looking darker these days and word of storms on the winds...

potency - sensitive to location, climate, stress, substrate, species. sometimes i have entertained the idea that older specimens somehow increase in potency when not exposed to full sunlight. recently heard about encountering thai cubensis whilst on an elephant walk... apparently same strength as cubes here.
