They either need a treatment or just take a hell of a long time I never had luck but think you may have to crack the hard shell inside the fruit.

dunno, dunno, dunno , la la la la la1!

i'll probably put up the seeds shortly for those keen and established seedlings once their big enough to send in 6-12months, whenever they're ready.
-
just did a bit of research and that extract was actually a root extract, not a whole plant extract. I did post a pic on the old gallery here, it came out as a very dark red colour.
-
well, they're definently viable, i've had 4 pop up this morning and should have a lot more by tomorrow morning pretty quick too, only 4 days.

i think we came to the conclusion here that possesing the seeds is fine, growing plants is fine, selling seeds is fine, harvesting seeds is fine. But perhaps possesing them AND having information on you or in your possesion that details how to consume/extract from them would be deemed illegal. Having ground up seeds in capsules or an extraction sitting in your kitchen would be illegal. There's some long in depth discussions on these forums if you do a search.

Hi Epicurus, please remember consumption of those seeds will be illegal here in Australia, try to post your questions in a theoretical manner. FOr a start, use the search engine here to answer some of your questions. Please read the illegal plants topic pinned at the top of the Ethnobotany page too, it will help you out. Possibly the best source of info on the web for these materials is Erowid.

Sounds like I. hederacea Mesc. If you are talking I. violacea then it won't have hairy stems or leaves. or Ipomoea purpurea or Ipomoea indica, which is like a mix of the above two but I haven't seen much seed set in Australia. and here's I. violacea just for comparison. Hi Epicurus, and welcome! Do a bit of searching in the search engine at the top of the page for 'Ipomoea violacea LSA' or whatever, there's heaps of knowledge there. It is a species known to contain usable compounds.

Trichocereus 'Cajamarca' Any thoughts on whether this cactus is actually a T. pachanoi? It'd have to be something else wouldn't it? It is a very cool looking cactus though. Anyone growing it?
-
I'm just doing some germination tests now and will probably give some seeds away soon as i seem to have over 1500 from that fruit ^_^, I just put down 100 and it didn't make a dent in the number. Hopefully the seedlings have the nice thick scop skin with some blue new growth and scattered long spines and some good chemistry, who knows but they'll be a lot of variation i'm sure.

I have a reference for tetrahydoharman from an oz native, not being up on my harmaline/harmine knowledge, can this be used as a MAOI?
-
Sorry Tomer, never grown it or tried it I can only quote from Ratsch "Hopi medicine men chewed the root or drank the juice pressed from it in order to obtain diagnostic visions. 28 to 57g of the root is said to result in a 'half hour of gaiety'. The Zuni Indians bake a bread using flour made fro mthe root and interestingly, use the bread as an appetite suppressant."

There's some great info on grafting with Pereskiopsis and others plus a heap of good articles about cacti, check it out. Cultivar e-magazine

Happy Cadaver posted a topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
I've got one copy of the above mentioned book for sale, $45 (just under cost price from US) which includes postage in oz. Only got a slight bang on one corner from transit from the US, nothing to worry about. Never been read. pm me please. -
THis little guy has been like this since I grew him from seed, basically discoloured on one side, which is alos slower growing. Do you think it is a proper varigation?
-
provided i'm successful too i'm up for a trade rev. Flower is dying back but the base is still green after about a week since it opened.

People in areas which are affected by this type of vandalism could try their hand at burning around each dead tree to stimulate seed germination to replace the dead one. there is no justification for stripping bark and leaving the tree to die. As you say wandjina, they could trim the tree branches for their use. At least they could plant more back or weed around seedlings for their profit made, doesn't take much and if not perhaps the dmt should teach them a lesson.

wau, waht a scoop! Bodo loves the love monkey

Give it some fertiliser. They are pretty sensitive to under fertilising from experience. Drop a teaspoon of osmocote around it.

Good thanks Prophet. Are you thinking of starting your own plantation? Below is a pic of Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine) which I think is one planted in oz for timber. Pinus taeda (Lobolly Pine) is another: More grown for timber are Pinus caribaea, Pinus bahamensis, Pinus hondurensis, Pinus pinaster, Pinus ponderosa. Then again it could be an ornamental species too. Around your area there are heaps of plantations though so I guess one of those species would be your best bet.

That sounds right Benz, the pollen hits the stigma, germinates and sends a tube down the style to the ovary to pollinate, and with such a long flower tube on the trichs, the longer the pollen has to reach the ovary before the flower decides nothing is going on and drops, the better. I guess you want to beat its own pollen hitting the stigma and clogging it up as well.
-
Hi Prophet, is it in a plantation situation or garden? Might be worth checking the DPI website for species they grow in SE QLD if it is in a plantation. I'm not up on my pines, but its not radiata is it, that has scaly bark.

It's about a foot high, was the top of those cuttings you bought. I didn't think the flowers were going to hang on but they must have enough roots down now with all the rain. It's a part of my mexican fence
