    Sock rooting:)

OK thanks guys, was just unsure of the likeliness that I'd end up with mold with all the rain, and seemed like a good idea to prevent it. Guess I won't bother. Cheers.

    Sock rooting:)

I have actually moved to central Qld(cant change my location for some reason)and it has been quite humid wet weather recently. Im under the impression it can sometimes take quite a while for roots to take hold, and would not like to still be waiting once it starts to cool down more in case of any problems, this is my only reason for considering this.

    Sock rooting:)

Just been reading the threads about this. Could many people recommend it for my first san pedro cutting? Would this be a better option than putting straight in the ground given the time of year? If I end up just potting it will be kept under cover, but I'm still a little worried about problems with the colder months coming up and also all the rain we've been having recently. Thanks.

    First san pedro

I have been interested in ethnobotanicals for quite a number of years but have never taken it any further than reading until now. I'm planning on growing a number of different plants, and am now waiting on a san pedro cutting to arrive as my first. I actually live a fair way out of town and only have a small produce store here to get supplies from, should a 50/50 mix of potting mix and gravel(around the same consistency as perlite, maybe a little finer)be ok for soil mix? I could get perlite or something similar but this would mean a trip into town I don't really want to do, and I have a large pile of the gravel in my neighbors yard that I've been told to help myself to. Friends also have a tank of watered down chicken manure, would san pedro benefit from a watering with this, or should I just stick with compost for feeding? Any other general tips with rooting a cutting for the first time? I have read quite a bit through the forum and will continue to, but anything you may be able to suggest here would be great. Thanks.

    Ebay sellers?

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has had experience with san peds bought from a certain auction site here in australia. There is one particular seller that seems quite legit, they have a large operation, and pictures listed of their crop and quite a number of cuttings if this gives any clue to the seller in question. The cuttings are not under auction and shipping is free, so I think this may just be a good vendor. I have purchased supposed san pedro this way in the past (a different seller obviously) and have ended up with what i believe wasn't. Any opinions on the legitimacy of the species generally sold in australia?(other than SAB's I mean). Link to pics of said cuttings and "mothers". Thanks. http://cgi.ebay.ph/Trichocereus-Pachanoi-San-Pedro-30-cm-/180620445213?pt=AU_Plants_Seeds_Bulbs&hash=item2a0dd1461d#ht_1336wt_698 This is not the actual item but another listed by the same seller

    M.Hostilis customs question

[moderator note: the following post is full of misconceptions and inaccurate information. please read the discussion further on to avoid legal consequences] mimosa hostillis root bark(im asuming this is what you are refering to)is not a controlled substance in australia,it can be imported as long as it is thoroughly dried, contains no foreign matter, is not capable of propagation and all packages are labelled with full botanical names.there are no permits etc. needed and it doesnt require quarantine entry if the above is followed.dried root bark also doesnt require gamma-irradiation if these rules are followed.I have obtained this information from customs myself and if anyone would like to see the full e-mail of requirements let me know. I also know of a vendor that often ships to australia whos product meets customs requirements,if any ones interested, pm me. If your material doesnt meet requirements gamma-irradiation costs $45.50 per consinement and takes 4 weeks, thats it,and iv been advised that treatment would not effect the scent. it was stated earlier in this thread that it would pass through quarantine, then customs, but this isnt the case. customs first screens all packages, and then if a quarantine risk is found it is sent to quarantine,if not they dont even see it, theres no quarantine entry needed with this product. also can any 1 tell me the purpose of gamma-irradiation? just curious as medical steralisation is done by gamma-radiation,not irradiation, and this seemingly doesnt make sense as i thought it was for sterilisation of the plant matter.
