  1. i'm so glad to finnally get this one done and finished. there are of course a few lil things i would have liked to do, but when it was over 4 months in the making, (mainly cause i got sick of working on it) i can settle. i think it turned out great! when get around to selling this, it definitely wont be cheap.

    ok here it goes...

    PNt74.jpg

so here is the pipe. the main bulk of it is Acacia melanoxylon. the stem i'm not totally sure what type of wood it was from, because they were both originally going to be fire wood. i "think" one is red gum but i realy dont know. i have a feeling they are both gums. the darker wood was from my own back yard, the other was.. kinda.. stolen from a clients pile of fire wood. i'm sure if the client saw what i did with it, they wouldnt mind.

also, one of the metal cooling plates are visable. she is a changa pipe, what ever that is XP

    VbOpT.jpg

here is a close up of one of the cooling plates. how does it work? underneath is a little tunnel that the smoke travels through. as it passes thru, it moves against the plate. the plate absorbs the heat to give a very cool smoke. it also adds a restriction to intake. this reduces the chance of coughing and gives the lungs a chance to adapt to the harsh smoke. engraved is a quote from our buddy terry ;) if it wast for these lil bastards, i would have finished this in under a month! :S

shown here is the bowl lid, the bowl lid clasp and the storage lid. the brass clasp hold the bowl lid shut and the bowl lid holds the storage lid shut, because, why would you want to open the storage container without opening the bowl? the whole thing locks down tight so there is no accidental spills in transport. two burls are shown here as handles. the storage lid, when unlocked, pulls strait out while the bowl lid rotates, as shown in the next pic..

    3WZWI.jpg

here you can see the open bowl and the storage lid. inside is a scoop to carefully eyeball what your putting into the bowl. seen also is the custom, large stainless steel mesh screen. (from a seive! XP)

next, i showcase the stem. oooo... shiny..

    l0MO1.jpg

a close up on one of the burls. shame my camera phone doesnt focus right :(

here is a lil lump, what could it be? can you guess children?

    uV7AX.jpg

it's a lil stoker! with suck a large bowl, a stoker is a must because more often then not, it does not all burn evenly, even if you are quite careful with your lighting technique. so when you think its all up, give her one more stir and have another toke to be sure your not wasting any ;)

    kPLAJ.jpg

it's quite hard to see, but the wood used is actually a burl too, with it's trippy swirling grain. also, the centre of that end of it is brass, coated with copper tubing. the copper is more visable under the wood handle.

    2B1gb.jpg

and finally the second cooling plate. engraved is UBZA! the date it was finished, and the word, "ENJOY!"

that's it! hope you liked it.

    nom nom nom nom..

  3. sweet :D so maybe say, channel 11 can be SAB's cb channel :D and i'm rfealy not concerned if anyone from rainbow hears what i say on the cb. Any other festival yes, but not rainbow ;)

edit i dont believe that if anyone else meets me and my friends at a location at the festival, that that person will be.. Undesirable. One of the things that make rainbow so attractive to me :D

  4. if you want something good and cheap, try looking into refurbished computers. I picked up an acer 2GHz dual core something with 2GB of ram, 250GB hdd for $300. I know your down for specs and that but if you look into it, you will see how cheap they are. when it comes to bang for your buck you cant go wrong and when at the time, a good netbook was the same price. (roughly 6-9 months ago?)

    my 2c ;)

  5. today tickets to Rainbow went on sale and i got mine! Woohoo! Anyway, i had this idea that because rainbow is so massive and its so unbelievably easy to loose your friends and not see them till you head back to camp, i decided to get some lil hand held CB radios. So next time we get lost i just get on the walkie talkie and decide apon a location to arrive at. :)

the other advantage is last year, there were some members from interstate who wanted to meet up at rainbow but when i got there i soon realised, there is no way to do this because of the sheer size of the camp site and festival lol

so ya, closer to the date i will find out what channels are allowed to be used for just chatting and that and some call signs ;) (as i know nothing about CB radios) mine cost me $150 for 2 rechargable hand held CB radios with a range of 7km from autobauhn. The rechargable battery can also be replaced with 4 AAA batteries if i have no way to charge them. (i have a small inverter in my car that can power the charger tho) dick smith sold a similar unit aswell but with i think a 5-6km range and was uniden brand but for $100. Looking back, i should have gone for them. Oh well.

There were some cheapies from jaycar i looked at that used AAA batteries with a 3km range for $20 each but for the extra $$$ i get a charging station, rechargable batteries and over double the range but the options there.

I think it would be amazing to, while waiting in the huge line of cars or if i get bored on the first day after setting up, i can see if i can find other SAB members! Cool!

So anyway, i know i may be posting this well early, but i just got so excited! :D

  6. hahaha ya. Well i have aquired some 92% alcohol which from past experience is perfect. Remember that fruit has a whole lotta juice in it so that can drop the alcohol down by half usually, then you add your sugar and other additives and it usually drops it down more. Finally, water can be added if absolutely needed but by that time its usually good ;)

  7. i'm pretty sure if you brew up a sugar water wash its legal, to put that fermented product in the freezer is legal, and to tip it upside down and to collect the alcohol that drains out is also legal too. I could be wrong too. To behonest, i dont realy care :S besides, you'd need a dam strong wash, (not hard to get over 18%-22% if done correctly with the right yeast) and a dam cold freezer to get it freeze the water and leave the aalcohol, especially if the sugar isnt completely fermented out...

Anyway, i love the sugestions already! Your making my job alot easier :D

  8. yes, i ment ment liqueur :S specificly distilling is illegal. Other forms of purifying alcohol are fine, like freezing.. And... Umm... Well, thats all i know in terms of purifying alcohol :P

i dont even know how compatible cactus fruit will be as a liqueur, but what the hey, i'll give it a go :) hopefully the alcohol may help to preserve it. I hope to get it close to 30% if possible so that should help and the low juice content may work to my advantage. Usually i need to use 85%-92% alcohol because if i use just 40% it will come out at 15%-25% which is ok, but if done correctly, will have a much better mouth feel at the stronger alcohol content. If it turns out i plan to bring it to a melb meet :D wont be ready till say, autum-winter meet, but should be worth the wait! :D

  10. long story short i had a crazy idea to make a cactus fruit liquor so i need some info.

First up! My first thought is to use fruit from the prickly pear because of its abundance, but what other fruits are large, tastey and abundant? When i say abundant, i mean can i get enough of them to fill say, at least a 1.5L jar? Being large is to make it easy to harvest and process.

    anyway, thoughts anyone?

    Cheers!
