My Cacti Garden (Extremely Photo Heavy)

Because of our strict quarantine laws it is very difficult to get plants into the country. You ether have to run the gantlet and try and sneak them in ( which I am not willing to do. I actually got caught bringing seeds in that are not on the allowed import list) or you have to pay large amounts of money to get them through. So the problem we have is the plants have to come from a Aussie grower and we ether don't have lots of freaks or the ones that are here are in peoples collections. For example we have Peruvian crest's here that are able to be found with out to much trouble ( not taking into account all of nitrogen's seedlings ) but Pach crest's are very hard to find as are Myrtillocactus geometrizans crest's and the list goes on with so many freaks that are out of our reach. Cheers Got
  2. So many absolutely spotless beautiful cacti. I was just sitting here looking at the photo's and trying to think what the value of those plants would be here. Cheers Got

    whats wrong with my

The Loph looks like spider mite but the Trich I have no idea I would just keep an eye on it. Did you spray the Trich as well if so it might be from the spray. Make sure you spray your Loph another couple of times to make sure you get all of the mites Cheers Got

    Lophophora In flower !

I don't know what Hellonasty does when grafting young seedlings onto Trich's but I have been experimenting and to make successful grafts I have found the two most important things are using new growth at the very tip of the stock or grafting onto newly formed pups. The second is to apply pressure but you have to be careful you don't squash your scion. I did always use something for humidity for a few days but I did a couple the other day without and they seam ok so far. I wont go into it any more here as I am side tracking the thread. Cheers Got

    Grafts -Photos & Updates

Thanks Mutant. I think they were all from a Mixed Jap hybrid seed from a guy in Hungary. He is cheap and I have had great germ rates with his seeds. He also does some other seeds as well that you might be interested in. Cheers Got

    don't cha hate it when..

So Ceres have I told you about Pach that could be montrose as I have noticed one areola is a slightly diferant shape. Its the 15th areola from the bottom or the 11th from the top. The third spine on the left the cactus's left not my left anyway it has a bend in it which is causing the areola to have a slight deformity. From extensive research I believe that it might be the start of monstrose growth a bit like one on my Mammillaria but that one is on the 254th areola on the right hand side not the cactus's right but................................................................................................................................................................................................. Don't you hate it when a hospital administers a drug and can not notice a reaction or accept there is a reaction to the drug but I can find the problem with the first hit on google. And to make it worse continue to administer the drug, send the patient home only to be in emergency in a different hospital an hour later. :BANGHEAD2: :BANGHEAD2: The expected stay in the new hospital is twice as long as what was expected from the original stay. What did you do to your cacti today?

Can you add some shade cloth to reduce the heat but not reduce the light to much. I have just come in from pulling my shade cloth curtains over on the inside of my greenhouse. They will stay closed until the end of summer now. I have green 50% on the outside which stays on all year round and then I have the 50% Aluminet curtains on the inside for summer. The Aluminet shade cloth is really good stuff . This is the blurb on it. Cheers Got

    NSW / East Coast Fires

I was just sitting down with my wife looking at photos and talking about the fires and I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for photos and updates from people that are effected by the fires and for other to send the well wishers. I have spent most of my life living in the Perth hills and I truly understand the position that so many people are in with the fires and weather that so many are facing now. I would also suggest that any member that needs help in any way to get through this to post here in the hope that this community can help in what ever way that we can. The Got family would like to send good vibes and love to all that are in the effected areas. Stay safe people and if you think you should leave your home don't second guess yourself just go. west aussie's trade and sell thread

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Have a search of the site for the info that you are looking for first but we all understand there are things that are best answered by asking questions. Good to hear that you have been doing some grafts. Five fails out of twenty is good a lot of people will have more fails than that out of twenty grafts I know I have. I whent through a stage a while ago when I was only running at about 50% but I went back to basics and worked out where I was going wrong and I am back on track now. If you are getting shoots growing from your Pere stock just nip them off. You can cut them of with a blade or if you like the game of pulling the little spines out of your fingers then you can pinch them off. I can sort you with a Mike cutting. If I make it to the meet I will bring you one otherwise you can pick it up from the workshop. I wont know until a day or so before the meet if I am going to be able to make it. Cheers Got

I would like to see a photo of what you are calling a crested Bridge. I doubt it is a bridge but I would be really keen to get hold of one if it is a cacti and looks like bridge it could be a Myrtillocactus geometrizans. I just realized you might not know who I am I am the one that got you started with your Pere forest. and I do have some seeds for you. I hopefully will catch up with you at the meet. Cheers Got

    Trichocereus "Len"

Welcome to the Corroboree Terracottacactus. I think I can guess who played a part in adding to you collection and If he has been true to form you will have plenty of new cacti. I should have some cuttings available soon as well ......................... if it ever stops raining. I think Len originally came from the SAB nursery. Actually after finding these old threads I would say it definitely came from the SAB nursery. These old threads are an interesting read We just need to remember the rules have changed in regard to what we are no longer aloud to talk about here now. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10734 http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5509 http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23457 Cheers Got

    Wanted Epiphyllum seeds

I thought it must have been a rat or mouse it vanished totally overnight so I doubt snails and we don't have many bats here and the ones that I have seen are quite small. I had seen that video before but it was good to watch it again and I also found this one that I hadn't watched for a while. Cheers Got

    Bog's garden 2012 /13 /14 &onwards

Thanks Ceres You know as you said some of the most enjoyable conversations that I have had with people about cacti have been with a couple of old boys here that had been growing for years. The best thing is they love there plants and if you show an interest they will happily talk to you for hours and there is so much to be gained from there knowledge. The other thing is even with there massive collections there is still an underlying excitement when showing their special plants. You can always be guaranteed to leave with something that you don't have in your collection because the standard question is have you got one of these and if you say no they will hand you a pot and not take no for an answer. Sadly one of the old boys passed away a couple of years ago and I believe most of his collection was broken up but he will be remembered by a Bridgesii clone from his collection "Mike". Thanks for letting me have some mutant seeds much appreciated. Cheers Got

    Bog's garden 2012 /13 /14 &onwards

As you get older all it takes is a young lady to talk to you and you will give up your prized possessions just to make her smile. Ceres I am sure you are a beautiful person and love your cacti so I have no doubt these people honestly like you for being who you are. As I am being nice to you now ( not like I was in the other thread ) would it be possible to grab some of seeds of that rebutia crest if or when it fruits. Cheers Got

    Wanted Epiphyllum seeds

Thanks mate that would be cool. Mine have just started as well and I am going to have a go at crossing them again this year. I managed to get a couple to fruit last year but they seem to take ages to mature and when they were looking like they were ready something stole the whole fruit. Cheers Got

    Legality of mycelium.

I don't know for certain but I would presume that the mycelium culture would be illegal plus an agar plate can fruit. I have had edibles pin on agar in a petri dish. This is not my photo I am just posting it to show the possibility of a plate fruiting. Cheers Got

    Profitable plants

Mate all you need to do is put a climate zone in your profile. Cant you see how difficult it is to answer you question especially the sort of questions you are asking if we know nothing about your climate and where and how you intend to grow. You know even the size of you grow area whether it is indoors or out is important if you want to know what plants can be profitable. Cheers Got
