Lack of nomenclature/production nursery cactus
~shameless~ replied to katu's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I think cactus growers in australia like paradisia don't make the epic amounts of money from their cactus lines , esp when they are trucking down large amounts of cycads, strelitzia and lovely indoor ficus which I see taking up heaps more room on the floor of most nurseries, so a lot of nursery staff aren't familiar with them as much as they are with leafy popular stuff, its just easier for them to chuck a generic cactus label on them rather than spend a few hours get an expert to come in and help them order the correct labels, also a lot of nursery managers who don't collect cactus, rather see them as" pain in the arse line" often requiring more time to pack and freight them, I reckon an excuse used if one made an enquiry to find out about the lack of nomeculture is that they arent a big money spinner, most customers like grafted colourful varieties and don't care what they are called , they are ugly and only sell with a novelty label with a picture of the cookie monster or cousin it or some shit and require novelty decorations like glued on plastic eyes (wtf?) they would also use the excuse, who cares, if it looks a golden barrel it probably can be sold as golden barrel, Not unusual to see a pc labled as a scope at collectors corner. About 7 years ago I purchased a bridgesii and a staff member from mentioned nursery said to me (with a tired and angry look on their face)" don't even bother with growing outside, keep it inside all year, they can be tricky to grow mate good luck(tool) " they were talking about a bridgesii! It a cultural thing amongst retail nursery staff, to consider most customers as people who don't need to have a full description of a genus species common name and any previous names included on label now, cos its gonna die on them anyway, End of my rant as well! -
Where I live we have had people imbeding fishing hooks into sausages man, stuff that nightmares are made of, EG hope your pooch is going well, (yeah and some people are shit heads, with a bit of luck the person got that wrapped up in his own sense of entitlement mixed up his sandwiches and ate his own poison sandwich and your dog ate his lunch)

Appears to look like a Bridgesii before it looks like anything else, but I once genuinely thought a Roseii looked like a yowie,

The first thing I noticed about your cactus in the pic is that it seems to have to prominent spines from a lot of the aeriol's that I can see pictured , I have a Pachanoi that does that, I have observed that all of my varieties of so called Peruvians don't really have two prominent spines, I have only 4 different varieties of what a lot of people would call Peruvians though, Nice plant, looks a little bit different to all of my Peruvians.

See the aussie movie "the boys" its based loosley on events leading up to the rape/murder (most brutal murder, seriously nightmarish) of young sydney nurse anita cobby, warning that the rape and murder of this poor lady is quiet brutal and will invoke alot of anger in some people, think about the movie "I spit on your grave" except more brutal and unforgiving, there were five men involved, three of the offenders recieved the very rare sentence of "never to be released" which is very rarely dealt to offenders in australia

what would you do with this cutting?
~shameless~ replied to Strontium Dawg's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Do a combo, cut into three as quarterflesh suggested , plant two up right n one on its side, those roots wont matter either way the cuts will grow new ones. -

So its fine for contributing members to post pics of cubes in a basket (that didnt get there by themselves), talk about how much fun everybody had camping and ingesting subs at a so called sub camp , but not ok to want to contact members bout aya? Cool got that , toby theres been a few members who aint contributed much here over the years, but they have dribbled this familiar spiel about how their lifes in tatters, ftw and everybody in it, or the old " i dont feel alive"ect, or to the effect of and have had ethnos thrown at them from every direction. Why give him a pseudo intelectual lashing. Aya/ dmt heads talk about ego loss alot, im yet to see the corelation. I reckon it makes you angry.

Depends how good you are at pinching them, a really good pincher is like a pair of scissors, hypothetically being careless when picking damages the mycelium a little n you can expect this to disturb further fruiting

Weirdly enough when I was 10 years old I would have been able to id a blue ringed octopus or a red back spider through the pictures n excursions I was shown n taken on whilst at school but only found out about how to id a death cap mushroom from a friend when I was in my early twenties, -
Living longer which inevitably means having longer working lives. No doubt paying more taxes and having more "user pays" type subsidising of utilities,

Haven't met a man who can use meth responsibly yet , same with dex as well -
Edit - having trouble attaching pics , outside today and noticed a pup growing through a rather nasty case of black rot on the blind side of the cactus, it seems to be going ok though , looked like the terminal shoot of the pup was well and truly smothered by the disease but it seems to be going well.

Cok Grootscholten Cactus & Succulent Nursery
~shameless~ replied to irabionist's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Arse kick'n nursery , like wise Iv never seen a such an amazing amount of cactus. Also Iv never seen such a large hydronic heating set up , that's massive, the large bore pipes can be indicative of just how much hot water or steam must get piped around to all of the grow houses, never worked on or seen a boiler set up that big in my life. Edit - those electric motors that are installed on the vertical pipes foremost would be the circulation pumps , never seen such big pumps.- 5 replies
