    Alzheimer's & ethnogens?

Brain Science Podcast #68: Alzheimer's Disease with Dr. Peter Whitehouse (neurologist & author of The Myth of Alzheimer's: What You Aren't Being Told About Today's Most Dreaded Diagnosis) --- Sorry I'm not replying to the original post. Just something I heard recently and thought it might be interesting to others here. The book name "myth of alzheimer's" is only referring to misconceptions around the topic

    Saving youtube clips

I use Ultimate Youtube Downloader extension for Chrome and find it pretty good. It adds a 'Download' button near all the standard Youtube buttons for selecting from the different formats (resolutions) available for the current video. It also automatically skips any Youtube ads. I'm sure I had an equivalent extension for Firefox, when I used that browser.

    anxiety

don't want to sound like an ass...but someone asked for advice regarding anxiety, and some people decide to argue about the definition/ethics of placebo? it's relevant to this forum, but not this thread - so maybe start a new thread for that discussion? i'd definitely be interested in it.
  7. Damer's suggestion (of a possibility) that it was all "the mushroom's" doing (initiating a tumor, etc.) to finally get Terence heart-opened, is absolute non-sense. I can't stand hearing shit like that

    Medicine side effect of edgeness

thanks Torsten ... looking forward to trying it. Torsten - how do you find theanine now? My crappy memory seems to recall that at some stage you were having negative reactions to theanine ?? I find theanine mysterious!....it has *some* effect but it's kind of like I can't really notice it except over days where I might notice I will have a reduced stress response, but I have a close friend that loves having days off work where he takes 1/2 teaspoon every hour for half a day and it reminds me of when he has taken mild benzos (o/s holidays) to the point where he starts having short-term memory loss, gets really introverted/insular, etc. (I find it annoying)...it seems mildly addictive to him. Not a big deal.
  17. Neurobiology of Placebos with Fabrizio Benedetti (Brain Science Podcast) an excellent dialogue/interview on the placebo effect and how 'placebo' is not a dirty word or describes an ineffective treatment

Is it normal to feel mild euphoria from coffee?

Are there dopamine precursors one can injest? You mean tyrosine?? some old quotes from this forum: Stims flood the synapse with dopamine and adrenaline and provided you have plenty reserves of both you will get euphoria. however, if dopamine is a little low then the euphoria can easily tilt towards anxiety and aggression. Having high serotonin levels at this point would counteract the anxiety somewhat and the aggression greatly. [ http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20854 ] & jitters from coffee is due to an imbalance of adrenaline and dopamine. ie, if you don't release enough dopamine then the adrenaline makes you jittery, however if you release both then you get energy or even euphoria. So, when you got a new job with higher pay and your life was looking good you would have had a massive increase in dopamine release. Hence, when you drink coffee you now get the energy/euphoria rather than the jitters. Just watch out if you ever lose the job or if life starts stressing you out, you might find your jitters returning. salviador recently posted about how tyrosine turned his caffeine jitters into euphoria. it's a simple concept, but not well known. [ http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10294 ] Out of context but I think it's obvious what's being referred to So for me, most of the time, a little day to day euphoria = tyrosine + a triple strength green tea (has theanine also)...every now and then I drop a little GABA into the tea. (for some reason GABA tastes like pineapple to me?!) However, there was a period where I stopped responding to any caffeine at all, despite breaks, was really depressed & fatigued (relapse), etc. I couldn't understand why that was happening, so I bought No-Doz for the first time to try to figure it out- still nothing....took high dose EPA/DHA for a few weeks, and all the dopamine stuff returned to normal. I've mentioned this before, but thought I'd offer it again for other people with dopamine-based depression.

Is it normal to feel mild euphoria from coffee?

My first thought was "isn't that why everyone drinks it?" I don't drink coffee, but I do feel euphoria from green tea (tyrosine enhances it, normal serotonin levels ensure it's less edgy)...I take breaks from tea periodically, otherwise it loses its magic Probably different people define euphoria differently

    Melatonin

I know there are ones made from different materials/different designs...I find it far more comfortable than the street-light pouring in my window under the blinds above my bed My friend, mentioned above, is right across from a giant lit-up bill board. You can't block out that light. Depending on what poster is in the rig, the colour can be a sort of yellowy-orange (sunrise) which makes me wake up at 3am thinking it's 6am.

    Melatonin

I have a friend that adores the koda tincture - but I find it odd...he takes it every night because he says he likes it....but this guy can fall asleep in 10 minutes...something I'm very jealous of...because it takes me a heap of 'discipline' [i.e. not letting my mind wander discursively] and usually at least 30-60 mins to sleep...sometimes much longer... I've "slept" with him quite a few times...and after 30-90+ minutes of sleeping (snoring/talking in his sleep) he'll wake up and sleepily say "I'm so tired, I hope I can sleep soon" or "I can't sleep"...meanwhile I've been awake the whole time and just roll my eyes but I think it has something to do with him living in the CBD where it's always light and always noisy. I recommended an eye-mask for sleeping, but he didn't bother persisting with it for more than a few days because he thought it was uncomfortable.
