Mitti attar is one that intrigues me....distillation of baked earth. Rhus khus is intensely transporting...so much more balanced and whole than straight vetiver oil. It is interesting that an agarwood industry is building up in Western Australia. I think the first harvests/distillations will be next year, along with Indian sandalwood...the Santalum spicatum industry has been producing oil for many years, but it is not worth comparing the two oils. It will be nice to have some unadulterated oils back on the market.

    Help a klepto

not that I disagree, but when does a not so great habit become a mental health issue requiring therapy? I've heard a lot of criticism lately of the current "obsession" with "medicalising" these sort of problems...with the next step being "it's not his fault that he steals things - he has an underactive left prefrontal cortex & acts compulsively through excessive amygdala activation" etc.

    Help a klepto

Always have to identify what is centrally important to someone and then relate to them how their negative behaviors are turning them away from those values. For some people the values are actually just things like a nice house, or being successful in business, etc. Usually it's better to generate motivation this way than to judge or change someone's values. People that are complacent, oblivious, lack self awareness, or abide in the comfort of self justification, usually need some "shock treatment." Shake them up, so suddenly their life changes and they have to wake up to look around. (This approach isn't suitable for people who have a poor sense of self, low self esteem, or significant anxiety). Another approach is "look in the mirror and see what you've become". It's always better if people want to change themselves, and actually ask for help if they need it. But she probably won't do that because right now there are no real consequences. Maybe you, or someone in the family, need to create some consequences?

Enjoyable non-sugar drinks. Are there any?

I know no one needs to be drinking syrup, but is it so bad to have a little sugar? I don't think I would have enjoyed months in Kerala without lime soda.... teaspoon of raw sugar in the glass with juice of half a lime, stirred up, then added soda water. If it was really hot and you were sweating a lot, it tastes even better adding a pinch of natural salt. If you had semi-serious body heat issues, you'd get nannari syrup (Indian sarsparilla - Hemidesmus indicus). Was much better than the cravings for Limca I developed in Mumbai (like Solo, but better...I think it has some mineral salts or something). As for purely no sugar drinks - I've been liking lemon balm infused water. put a heap of leaves/stems in a 1.5L bottle of spring water and shake it up for a while...delicious, relaxing water. Adding a splash of rose water to cool spring water is also pretty refreshing, if you're into that sort of thing....or infuse cucumber slices... kewra water and orange blossom water are available at a lot of ethnic stores/delis and are both interesting/refreshing also. Another beverage for reducing body heat issues during Summer from the old ayurvedic texts - crush up a tablespoon of coriander seeds and pour over a cup of room temp spring water, to cover, overnight. In the morning, strain and drink. Good for gastritis, hyperacidity, cystitis, etc. I like these infuser jugs, for putting cucumber/lemon/lime/fresh herbs into

    addicted to Coke

Maybe along with a little self discipline, informed by wisdom & guided by self respect/compassion (just kidding) .. a Gymnema supplement ? You need to smooth out your blood sugar fluctuations to reduce craving. Bringing a little awareness to it ? - when you finish half the can, ask yourself if that was enough to satisfy the craving. If it was, throw out the rest. If it wasn't, have another mouthful then ask the question again. The amount you drink doesn't have to be dictated by the volume of the can. Even an extra couple of sips is a massive amount of sugar. Maybe buy it in bottles, and restrict yourself to a particular sized cup (i.e. less than 375ml obviously) Think about how much sugar, in terms of granules on a spoon, the body tries to maintain so precisely in the blood at any given time. Why this tight control is so important (i.e. what problem is chronically high blood sugar?) Measure out the amount of sugar equivalent to five cans, so you can see what this amount looks like? How stressed the pancreas is constantly creating and pumping out insulin? The problems associated with constantly high insulin? The amount of time and effort it would take to chew and suck the juice from raw sugar cane equivalent to five cans of soda? Try making a sugar solution equal to coke, and see what it tastes like when it's not balanced out with citric acid to make it emulate the sweet/sour balance of fruit? Just some ideas for helping someone make it 'real' I would actually do those thing. I knew someone who wanted help with a habit of eating a large bag of crinkly cut potato chips every night. I blended up a bag of chips with hot water, then strained and pressed the liquid through cloth, and let the liquid cool/refrigerated it so the oil rose to the top and congealed. It looks pretty awful and that worked pretty well...and this sort of thing can help some people who seem really complacent and oblivious. (They have asked for help for some reason - I don't just go around doing these things for fun) Someone addicted to coke, I would probably want to fill a container with sugar cubes, representing their consumption over a period of time. I would like to show a year - but at 5 cans per day, I'd have to go to a catering supply store to buy that much sugar, and it would blow out the demo budget Just looking at 1 month's worth of sugar would be plenty scary

    Ethical food question poll

There's nothing about health in the questions... Look at how massive the paleo diet ("movement") has become...there's a lot of people now who don't care so much about ethics, but they do very much care about the CLA content of their beef and butter, from grass-fed vs grain fattened feed-lot animals, for example. On another note, the poultry industry seems to be pushing for an increase in the allowable bird density, under the "free range" classification. IIRC the recommended stocking density (by Aust Egg Corp ltd) is 1500 birds per hectare, while some are wanting to move up to 20,000 and still be classified as free range. They say that if the standards are not lowered/recommended welfare standards are imposed & enforced, Australians will have to start paying the 'true' cost of eggs (around $1 each, maybe a little more) and they would eventually start importing cheaper eggs from countries with far worse food safety & welfare standards. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but was it not only a few generations ago that most families had a meat day and a fish day per week, with leftovers on another day, and keep the rendered fat, bones for stock, etc. Now it seems like people expect meat to be so cheap that they can eat it every day, maybe even twice daily (not to mention $1 carton of milk, loaf of bread, etc.)

    u colour blind? lol

my score graph was identical to ballzac's. hmmm I use an LCD tv for my monitor with a vga cable, and it has an annoying 'ghost' to the image. The specific error bars positions on the results color-gram gave me a terrible childhood flashback to a time when my grandma screamed at me because I said a curtain was green when she knew it was blue. *need icecream*

"Titanium Lily" ...anyone know about this?

I read the "pay load" only lasts for an 8 hour period... I went along as well but couldn't be bothered waiting in the queue. I peered inside but the door bitch didn't like me hanging around out the front. Had a nice walk around the gardens though. They should've sold Amorphophallus ice cream near the line...it was pretty warm
