On my suburban block I get occasional fallout of tubers from the neighbours place - I pick em up pronto - on this scale manual control is easy. Scale and severity of infestation determine approach to control.
-
There are several techniques of applying glyphosate that are effective, depending on nature of infestation - but persistence in invariably required. Madeira is an absolute rainforest/mesic ecosystem cancer. If stems are small (several mm wide) then cutting and bundling lots together and (really rapidly!!) putting them into a small jar/container of 100% glyph (360) is effective at getting uptake and transfer. On warm days you can get significant volume into the stems and might even need to refill the jar.... Larger stems can be scraped (not cut!) around to a length of 10-30cm and painted with 100% glyph (but you need to do it "spiralling" around the stem - not a single scrape but many to get maximum kill). The more volume you can get in the better to kill stems, foliage and aerial tubers. Because of waxy cuticle foliar spraying requires a penetrant such as Pulse to get herbicide into the system... Hope this helps - good luck!!

Hang in there Olive and good on you for striving to deal with this stuff. I hope the future is up and up.

Do your midgen berries get affected by myrtle rust? I haven't seen fruit on them up here since myrtle rust arrived. Same with scrub turpentine (Rhodamnia rubescens)... -

Hi Sol, It would help to know the approximate whereabouts of the mountain (state, region etc) for more definitive IDs. Although it looks to be possibly on the Northern Tablelands of NSW or granite belt of far SE Qld.... Possibly somewhere like Gibraltar Range.. Great shots.. 4 = Grevillea sp. 5 = Probably a Pultenaea sp. 6 = Probably a Hakea sp. 7 = Probably a Eriostemon/Philotheca other heathy Rutaceae 8 = Agree on Diuris sulphurea 9 = Grevillea sp. acanthifolia type. 11 = Philotheca or similar 15-16 = Xanthorrhoea sp. Will have a look at others later on when time allows. Happy botanising. If in NSW checkout Plantnet - Royal Botanic Gardens online flora of NSW..

I am aware of them surviving (and possibly fruiting) as far south as the Hastings Valley.... but only in warm and sheltered microclimates...

Pat and P. dog. Please stay. Please.

Maybe check out Daley Nursery at Kyogle - I know that they had bulk fruit a few years back and would expect that volume to have increased in the intervening years.

There was a story on landline recently where a robotics company that was working on the robot weed microwaver was profiled - interestingly the company involves Campbell Newman and he was interviewed for the show. I was impressed by their approach and designs. Their basic premise was that farm machinery has become so big and complex that most features are not used by many farmers and because the machinery is so massive that it damages soil and can't efficiently operate because of size and speed (e.g. missing the corners of irregularly shaped field losing yield). The company are working on fleets of much smaller machines that work at a slower pace and achieve much greater harvest rates. Fascinating... but a bit iffy to have Campbell involved... -
Some banksias, including Banksia integrifolia ssp. integrifolia germinate really easily without any special treatment. I salvage seedlings of this species from playgrounds where they germinate atop pine bark that lines the ground.
-
This would largely depend upon the species involved.

Not sure about this- just operating on hearsay that the "cielo" strain came to Oz via Terrence and Hawaii.. Hopefully other members know more about this...

Doves are primarily frugivores and granivores... Not really vertebrate carnivores - although some species may occasionally eat invertebrates....
-
Yep - first dog encapsulates it perfectly.... Only problem is that it will give the COAL-ition a bump in the polls and much better prospects for being re-elected, Although the captain has walked the plank, the whole shifty crew remains,,,

No need to buy it. I just gathered cow poo from paddocks known to support cubes, and within months, whammo!! :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer: :shroomer:

Yes - this is definitely possible. We piled a large amount of cow manure on veggie beds and had cubes coming up most of the following summer.... I also know of some folk who made a big pile of cow poo, kept it well-watered and ended up with bulk cubes..

Done. Good luck..

It is over 8 years now in a subtropical lowland rainforest habitat on basalt-derived colluvial soils.. It is the "cielo" strain - from what I understand, thanks Terrence McK and Hawaii... ;-)

I'm up for this too... Here is the base of one of the chunkier stems on my "original" planting. peace

Nice one Rahli - you instigate really interesting comps with really interesting plants as prizes. I will scurry forth and see what I can arrange in terms of photos..
