Can someone please ID these Canberra fungi?

Would explain a few things. iirc early this year a chef killed himself and some friends around here picking 'chanterelles'. I was pretty sure #4 was a sub ... But haven't been in this part of the world for 5 years. What was it in the pic that told you it wasn't? Spore prints of #1, 3 & 4 suggest you're right though...

Can someone please ID these Canberra fungi?

Gaaaah...And because they were taken on an iPhone they're upside down. #1 = right, #4 = left
  3. I found these while out for a walk this afternoon. Fairly sure #1 & 2 are the same species, #3 has slightly darker gills, not sure if #4 is the same or different because the first 3 are more mature. #5 blew me away - Big, solid, about 10cm in diameter hiding under a tree. Dozens of 1&2s are popping up after all the recent rain in Canberra and it'd be great to know if they're good to pop into a stir fry. #1-4 Top #1-4 Underside #5 Thanks! Kitty

My server broke and I'm too busy to figure out what the problem is unfortunately

    Canberra Meet

I was super-excited to be riding to work the other day through really thick fog and was thinking there could be some interesting things growing around the gardens that we could look at and photograph for our collections - But then the fog seems to hit earlier around Gungahlin, what's it been like in the city?

    Anyone using Dvorak?

Really? I always assumed that I pronounced it phonetically because I was uncultured and ignorant of the arts and whatnot... My understanding is that it's pronounced like the composer because the two are distantly related. Well... Wikipedia says I'm wrong: While the composer's name is pronounced [ˈdvɔr̝ɑːk]), with the ř roughly as a simultaneous trilled [r] and [ʒ], August Dvorak's family in the U.S. pronounces it as IPA: /ˈdvɔræk/[4]. Interesting. oh well- yes, I've been using dvorak exclusively for about ... 5 or 6 years. When I started full-time work (as a programmer) I was using qwerty at work and got tendonitis after a couple of weeks, so now I irritate the hell out of anyone who tries to use my work computer. Chris.

    Sorry

This has been a very interesting discussion particularly for my pretty urban point of view. I think vert and T are right on the mark, and much more eloquent than I could hope to be, but thought I'd chip in again anyway The ceremony yesterday was very touching, and I think was so much better than our previous government could have done were it willing to that it has been worth the wait (although maybe not quite such a long wait...). As far as "why should we say sorry" goes, I think there are two key reasons - To acknowledge the utter bullshit that's been perpetrated up until 30 years ago by previous governments and the public - and acknowledge it as being wrong and unacceptable. What generation is this? Ours? Our parents? Grandparents? There's often no need to look further back than that. - To apologise personally for the actions of our ancestors - Just as we'd (surely?) apologise to those impacted if our Fathers became mass murderers today. As someone whose family arrived on the second fleet I feel like I personally need to make reparation in some way.. And as far as compensation goes I think it's obvious to most that there can be benefit from this. There are so many health and social issues in remote indigenous communities that any support from the government can only help. Rudd several times mentioned the 'close the gap' campaign initiated by Oxfam, and government support of that would be wonderful. Chris.

    Sorry

I heard something on the radio the other day ... think it was Hack on Triple J, saying that the Tas government has committed 2 (or was it 5?) million $ as compensation for people who can show that their life has been affected by the stolen generation. Which apparently works out, based on the number of families effected, to a pretty small amount per family - so it's more symbolic than actual compensation. *looks for a link* Hmm OK, it was $5M, with up to $5k per person or $20k per family. http://www.dpac.tas.gov.au/stolengeneration/ Ah well, let it be symbolic and compensation then. I can't complain about some of my taxes being spent on something worthwhile and hopefully beneficial to our society rather than a war.

    Canberra Meet

Why not chip in? It was great to meet fellow Canberra plant-heads, and a real blast from the past to see Captain Marshmallow - last time I saw him I think I left him semi-passed out on a park bench waiting for a bus after a ridiculously long night of end-of-the-uni-year celebrations, over 3 years ago... I've been away for far too long. Ace, I'm very glad I helped to clear out your shelves You've doubled my cactus collection (from 2...I've never been interested in cacti until recently). I think I've figured out which way's the right way up for the cuttings (*hopes*), but they already make a nice addition to my garden. I think it was captain marshmallow who mentioned the thingy up in Goulburn, it sounds like it could be fun.. Ciao Chris.

    Sorry

I agree, although I think it's been blown all out of proportion. Common sense dictates that are all sorry for the travesties committed in the past not only in Australia but in many, many countries; John Howard's refusal to accept that Australian governments were wrong in their past actions has made this (a government apology) much more of an issue than it ever should have been, in my opinion. Chris.

    Canberra Meet

bump I suggested the date so think someone else should suggest the time & location (that's code for "I'm too lazy to list everyone in a PM") Saturday's the multicultural food festival too, I'm definitely going for lunch before or after the gardens (or both!)...

    Canberra Meet

It's in my calendar, I'll be there. I don't think there are bbq's there, but I could be wrong. I'm happy to wander, or sit and eat, or anything else one might feel like doing. Late morning? Early afternoon? The gates shut at 5.30 (I've been locked in there before ) Chris.

    Lewana grade kava from herbalistics

I seem to recall that the liver damage was caused as a result of aerial parts of the plant being used by certain suppliers. What new legislation is this? Have I missed something?
