Ah, so it is all our fault. Silly me. While I think it is plausible that your point is true, I would want to see some real research to bear this out. Was it christian intervention such as the crusades that led to the development of fundamentalism that claims to be gounded in islam? We will probably never know.bluemeanie:Christianity turned Islam the way it is. Once it had a benevolence and sophistication that Christianity could only dream of.
I wonder if christianity is to blame for islams probvlems, whos is to blame for the problems of christianity?
Do we need to look any further than crappy paranoid compeditive controlling human nature to find a culprit for these issues.
Or am I being simplistic?

I got that translation from:
Translated during the summer of 1991 by Charles Muller
Revised, July 1997
When citing please use the URL:
http://www.human.toyogakuen-u.ac.jp/~acmul...ntao/laotzu.htm
Though I have read many others. I feel that the translation I cited reflects both the dynamic nature of the Tao, and the idea that one can never completely follow it, nor is it something that one can deliberatley strive for.
Am I a taoist? I'm not sure. I'm actually quite anti religion, as some of you will know, but in my entire time studying religion and philosophy, I have never come across anything that so intuitively appealed to me as a way of making sense of things, primarily because taoism implies that there is no point trying. I don't think Lao-tzu was some a super natural being, but I do think he knew alot about huma nature.
Also on the topic of war:
Victory is never sweet.
Those for whom victory is sweet
Are those who enjoy killing.
If you enjoy killing, you cannot gain the trust of the people.
On auspicious occasions the place of honor is on the left.
On inauspicious occasions the place of honor is on the right.
The lieutenant commander stands on the left.
The commander-in-chief stands on the right.
And they speak, using the funerary rites to bury them.
The common people, from whom all the dead have come
Weep in lamentation.
The victors bury them with funerary rites.

The questions you raise are good ones, and I have yet to hear a reply from a monotheistic viewpoint that is not utter bullshit. There would appear to be a firm logical basis for questioning christian claims about the nature of god. Im' sure there are similar probles with all religions, but I haven't studied them yet.gomaos:why it tolerates so many innocent humans/animals/plants suffering so much? Why does it/she/he tolerate that a few have a million times over more than EVERYthing while Billions have nothing and suffer?
Exlain that to me, you mf god?
(And no rethoric please I hate that. Facts only)
I think think a thocracy based on "pure islam" (If there is such a thing? Seen any pure christians lately?) could be a pleasant place to live. But this is not what we would get. I don't have a problem with the culture of Islam, but I do have a problem with the culture of violence, repression, sexism, xenophobia and hate etc, no matter what religion or society it occurs in. I am also opposed to all theocracies. ( But that's another story.)
Are some spiritual beliefs intrinsically better or worse than others? Hard to say. However if you look at the varying outcomes in terms of human misery, then it becomes apparent that all spiritual beliefs are not of equal value (But this can be said about alot of things, not just religions). The caste system, is it a "pure" hindu belief? No contraception, it a pure christian (or even catholic) belief? What about the submissive status of women in most judeao-christan systems?
The list goes on. I agree with Gomaos, religion (and its adherants) can bite my arse.

Fighting for Peace? Ask the students in Sydney on wednesday about that.

The possible effects of Ayatollah Makim depend on the amount of popular support he has and the nature of the islamic theocracy he would set up. I am not an expert on islamic theology or politics, but given the nature of some other muslim theocracies, I am not sure that Makim's theocracy is a good thing for anyone, espesially the women of Iraq. (I am perfectly willing to accept that I am wrong on this point). So it is hard to say what is worse, a US dominated, but relativley moderate Iraq, or a free but fundamentalist Iraq.

I have recently moved, and have either mirabilis multiflora, or Mirabilis jalapa (they seem to look really similar, but I can't get a photo of M.multiflora to check.) growing in mty yard. Any more info on specifics of how this plant was used and in what amount etc?

I heard that the herb in question is quite wide spread. Could it be found in northern china? Can anything intesting be found in northern china? (I know somone there)

He is ok. I guess the experience overwhelmed his ability to stay away from the center of the universe. <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.png

Hmm I wonder if they could make one of them for me featuring an aquaintance of mine who told me to "stop being so fucking boring" because I dared bring his experience down by not taking a pill.

Yeah. How d'y do that eh?

Is there a test for Salvinorin A? I know it is illegal here, and soon to be in the U.S. I think, but it might be obscure enough to get by them.

Um, perhaps a concentrated alcoholic exrtact, or maybe a butane extraction. Seach through old threads to see what has gone before. Don't use any of the absinthe recipies from erowid. The taste like crap and are not how it's really made anyway.

Awsome post Devance. Will start looking for local relatives immediately.
Mental picture: Australian politicians inundated with so many new ethnogens that they are forced to either step aside for people who can cope, or join the ranks of hippies assaling them.

Has anyone confirmed the usefullnes of this plant for summoning the elves? I have yet to find a company over here selling the seeds but it is widely grown in the U.S. and the seed appears to be very cheap there.

The real sunlight was probably too much for it.

Success, hmmm. Well nothing has died yet, though the HBW is sulking,it does not like the low humidity we were experiencing recently. Haven't managed to strike any cuttings of the dreaming herb yet, but I'm working on it. Got some D.meteloides up and growing as well as about five W.sommifera seedlings. Will be trying to rase some of the harmala, mex poppy, and heimia now that the weather has really warmed up. But still the only run-away success in my gnomes garden are the salvias.

Ronny, well done man, that was excellent. Trippy, cynical, with brilliant pace and breathless rythym. Written in a way that my creative writing tutor at uni would hate. Which is good, because I disagree with almost everything he said about style.
Yeah I'd be up for getting stuff in a book or online journal or whatever. I'd contribute, but it really depends what kind of material is wanted.
