comply with the united nations or get sanctioned

I don't know if you have spent much time talking to people who work for the federal government in the departments responsible for regulating opium production here, but that's kind of where we are already at. One of the reasons the federal government is stuck is because it doesn't want to be responsible for having our opium quota smashed in retaliation for de-scheduling(or so Iv'e heard at least one official say).

We'll be demonized for trying to enslave generations for growing a plant and be even greater criminals than we are today because the government will have the public's support since they can go down to the shops and buy their vape cartridges as easily as they can a case of beer today.

Slow down and read the story: the greens specifically include grow your own in their plan.

See, the thing with keeping it illegal is that it doesn't work for everyone, even if it works for you. There are plenty of good people whose careers could be destroyed by even a single drug conviction. Could things be worse than the current situation? Maybe. I just don't see how maintaining the current situation is anything other than letting them win. You think your kind of talk scares the shit out of prohibitionists? I can tell you now, it doesn't - it gives them a way to keep communities divided against each other though.

If you have an actual achievable plan for me to not risk jail or my career for growing a bit of weed and/or sparking up a joint that doesn't involve any compromise, then I'm all ears. As far as I'm concerned, if I can grow a bit at home, buy some quality product at a decent price when I want to, and maybe even run a business growing or selling (even if there is a bit of paperwork and restriction on advertising), then that is pretty good. If they want me to pay a bit of tax to pay school teachers and build hospitals, then I'm OK with that too.

  2. In NSW the greens have said they will push for legalisation after the next election via a private members bill

    https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/greens-nsw-plan-to-legalise-regulate-and-licence-cannabis/news-story/e862e0a6598b12e4e36fec4688a2e42b

In Victoria, Reason MLC Fiona Patten is calling for a select comittee to advise parliament on legal/regulatory frameworks needed to start sale of cannabis by 2021.

(personally I’d trust Fiona on this more than the NSW greens,  but good on them for trying)

  3. Hey gang,

I haven’t been around much, due to my life taking a weird turn since early 2018.

Thanks to some members/ex-members, I ended up involved in some cryptocurrency related social media networks. At first this was just steemit, where the delight at finally earning anything from my writing quickly turned to anger at how comprehensively the system was stacked against anyone other than certain elites (and the people who kiss their rings).

Then I got involved in a Chinese social network start-up called ONO. The exact how and why I can’t publicly reveal as I still like to pretend I’m semi-anonymous here. But I can confirm that I was sucked in by promises around the supposed ethics of how that enterprise was supposed to run. I later hoped that my deep moral disappointment might at least be offset by some marginal monetary gain. But that hasn’t panned out either thus far. What was sold to me as an experiment in decentralisation, freedom and community self-governance was really an experiment in cost-cutting, worker exploitation and the cynical pursuit of investment capital.

Through it all, I’ve come to think that social media that incentivises user activities is often pretty toxic, and that when that incentive has/is a monetary component, the negative impact potentially increases. I also suspect some (though not all) cryptocurrencies and related projects are result of lassiez faire fantasies that involve little regard for the environment or the mental/spiritual wellbeing of other humans.

The whole experience of being that interested in money has allowed me to acquire some interesting new skills, not to mentions some new friends (my fellow disaffected travellers). I’ve also found some new directions for writing that I’m trying very hard to pursue.

But it has left me feeling hollowed out, disillusioned and disconnected.

I remember some years ago hearing @Horus tell another member to be careful what you give your energy to. Different situation, but I really understand this now.

I wasn’t ready to talk about this last time I saw anyone. Not that I think this is a big deal. One great thing about meeting up with fellow SAB members is that talking about everything in your life is not mandatory. In my experience, talking at all is optional depending on where you are at, and that's as it should be.

Now I just need to relax and reconnect, and stop confusing what I think is worth saying with what people will (or won’t) pay me to say.

  4. Hmm, 9th is do-able I think, but not a lot of notice. I'm less-available for the bits of February, but maybe we can get our shit together for March. At least the weather  might be a little less punishing by then.

  5. I hardly have to point this out to the experienced campaigners here, but now is the time to make friends with (or at least make yourself and your position known to) the shadow health minister and shadow attorney general.

    g'day Ol mate, welcome :)

How about around 4 weeks way.....say tentatively Sat 18th aug?

    What do others think?

If this is still happening, I am in dire need of a sanity check. (The fact that you guys are my sanity check is possibly worrying, but let's pretend it isn't). If it's not happening, or I can't make it (I am not 100%), @etherealdrifter, expect to hear from me.

  7. Interesting petition. I do wish whoever wrote it had consulted a little before putting it up - the wording of the plebiscite they are requesting could have been better. This isn't supposed to be unduly critical, but if we were to get anywhere near a plebiscite, you KNOW that politicians would try to undermine it by putting up a question that would split the pro-reform forces. E.g.: mentioning only sativa and not indica, mentioning the 'herb' and not edibles or other derivative products.

Of course, as a strategic move that is designed to split those who think that legalisation can only ever happen via a Colorado-style market solution, it might be worthwhile.
