  1. Maybe I'm just cynical but I found this comic on carbon offsets pretty funny.... http://images.salon.com/comics/boll/2007/0.../boll/story.gif I do think that its promising that big companies are starting to look at their environmental impact though.

Fruiting from non fully colonised jars

Thanks guys, gives me a few places to start. Gas exchange would make sense as well, as it seems to be slowing right at the bottom of the jar where its tightly packed in. I might just hang in there another week or so and if there is no progress i'll skip through to fruiting. Cheers.
  3. Hi All, Has anyone tried fruiting from a cake that isn't fully colonised? I have some myc jars (edibles) that are around 95% colonised and growth seems to have halted. I can put this down to it being too cold, or that there wasn't a good mix of rice flour and vermiculite, and that they have no nutrients in this section of the jar. So i guess im wordering what would happen if i just skipped straight to fruiting?

    bioluminescence ?

Hi Guys, I think the small luminescant toadstools that people have been referring to could be Mycena chlorophos. According the fungi field guide that Ive got at home, this and the Omphalotus seem to be the most common Australian luminescants. One theory for the reason behind the luminesance is that the light is an attractant to a particular species of snail that feeds on this fungus, and could aid in spore dispersal. The book's called "A field guide to the fungi of Australia" by A.M Young if anyone wants to check it out.

    alternative to glove box

Hi All, I have been reading about an interesting alternative to a glove box, Apparently a sealed clear plastic bag where the objects are manipulated from the outside of the bag works just as well. Has anyone had any sucess with this method? Cheers,

    Mushroom growing made easy

Hi All, This is my first post on the forums, Im looking forward to learning a lot from all you fellow myco's. I became interested after seeing a really good documentary called "Mushroom growing made easy" (Do a search on Bit Torrent and it should come up). I'd recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in getting into mycology. Once I get my hands on some spores I'll let you all know how I go. Reamers.
