I don't know a lot about cacti or this defection but am looking for some that will maintain the trait with cutting propagation. trich, loph, whatever, etc, just looking to add some verity to collection. Don't really have much worthy of trade so am just looking to buy.
-
From what i understand cesting of cacti can both be due to trauma and genetics(could be wrong here). Is their actually some naming or classification in relation to cacti that differentiates this? I am just thinking of a cacti that could potentially carry this trait on genetically as opposed to one that would only do so during cuttings.

What subject do you feel you have enough expertise in or knowledge of to teach other about? (I personally have none )

A week or so ago I caught up with an old friend i hadn't seen in a while and at some point during the night of heavy drinking the conversation arrived at the topic of opium, the old friend made a reference to someone that they knew(that had a relative, etc) that said they used to grow opium poppies from supermarket bought seeds and then let them grow for around 4 or 5 weeks planted in a pot(like alfalfa as described) and would then harvest/dry and smoke and this was said to have a very noticeable morphine like effect at around 2g smoked. at the time my skepticism dismissed this and just bs or misconceptions around the opium poppy as i am under the impression that the only viable concentrations of alkaloids would be present in the sap from seed pods. I sort of forgot about this then remembered the conversation a couple days ago and did a little bit of crude research and found some references in some old books from the 30's-50's from a guy named Peter Valaer that did in fact detect alkaloids present in seedlings but the information was very sparse and made no mention of concentration, but after this i am now somewhat curious if there may be something to this story. Does anyone have any knowledge around this that could shed some light as to whether there is something to this story or if it is just random bs? (clearly i have no interest personally in the application of this and any such knowledge should only ever be employed by the commercial poppy producers that supply our benevolent pharmaceutical companies and i am just asking out of curiosity)

NZ Mushroom ID - No Blue bruising. ..but what are they?
ZooL replied to Antrenom's question in Fungus Identification
Not sure what they're called but i get a similar thing here, almost certain this isn't something you wanna eat. (but I'm not so knowledgeable about different species so someone may point out I'm wrong) The caps are really thin, soft and fragile right? as in will pretty much disintegrate if you squish them between your fingers? -
I'm gonna go out and have a little look tomorrow, last time i went out and looked there was absolutely nothing, but past week of rains has had all sorts of things popping up on my property. Irritatingly the only patch of goodies i ever found on my property was right outside my bedroom window, unfortunately this was the only reasonable place the split system unit could be placed when i had installed so no to confident anything is gonna come back up there.

Looks like some form of psilocybe to me but can't be 100% sure from the pics, better to wait for someone with more expertise and especially around the ACT* varieties and lookalikes that may be around there. But on the whole nipple thing, where i used to live I would find a massive variety of forms of the cap from patch to patch but of what I'm pretty sure were all p.subs. But yea, don't take my reply as a positive ID and better to wait for someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

Is there a fungicide that will be taken up by the mycelium to kill the whole colony? I have yellow stainers at the back of my property and normal field mushrooms at the front, last year i tried to pull out all the stainers before they dropped their spores but this year they have still spread to an even larger area than last year.
-
That's a good point @Darklight , i had just been thinking of a way to attack the stainers but considering they are gonna just be doing there own thing and fighting againts me i may be better off just trying to favor and encourage some potential competitor. My main issue with them being there is that the ones here only very faintly stain yellow and are really hard to distinguish from the common edible field mushrooms making it harder and harder to be confident im picking and cooking good ones when they are also around. introducing and encouraging some other species that will not only be easier to distinguish but also will work against them may be a better option that just trying to eradicate them, especially consider whats been pointed out that they will likely just be replaced via spores in the wind even if i did kill the whole colony.

// ==UserScript== // @name GalWorkAround // @namespace http://shaman-australis.com/ // @description Work around so can click img preview and gallery images // @author ZooL // @include http://*.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?/gallery* // @include https://*.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?/gallery* // @run-at document-end // @grant none // ==/UserScript== (function() { 'use strict'; var preimg; if(document.title=="A configuration or server error has occurred") { var elms = document.getElementsByTagName('link'); for (var i = 0; i < elms.length; i++) { if(elms.rel=="preload") { preimg=elms.href; } } var ctner = document.getElementById('ipsLayout_mainArea'); ctner.innerHTML="<a href='"+preimg+"'><img style='display:block;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;' src='"+preimg+"'></img></a>"; } })(); Just replaces the error message with a clickable intended image. Still can't comment and doesn't fix the DOM-url error that will causes first click in gallery to fail but at least you can see the images, so in gallery when screen goes dark on first click just click the X at top right then click again. Should work for both greasemonkey and tampermonkey. (haven't tested a super amount but seems to work but let me know if is error in there and will try fix)

I had a go at trying to cross a few different (what i think are) epiphyllum that i found around the place when i moved here, not sure if they crossed or just self pollinated but all the flowers i tried it on made larger fruit where as the ones i left or tried to self pollinate either shriveled or made small fruit. When i collected the fruit i separated out most of the seeds from the pulp, then washed them, then spread them over some paper towel to dry, when i came back to them i realized this was a mistake as they were all effectively glued to the paper towel once dried and it took me forever to get them all off. Anyone have some tips of a better way to do it, or if even separating them from pulp before drying is even necessary or if it's better to just let fry in pulp and then seperate.

yep, rains and fog have just turned up here in past few days. Annoyingly last year i came across a massive stretch along a pine plantation road with thousands of saffrons, I didn't actually know what they were at the time or that they were edible. Unfortunately for the life of me i can't remember where this was.

I wen't out a had a look on Monday and again today at a few spots and saw none, the only other place i found some early last year i would likely need to sneak or talk my way through checkpoints to get to(am in a border town) so i thinks that's off the table for now. Most spots in my area started flushing around mid April last year so i think i will wait a bit before looking again this year.

Requesting engagement from and admin or moderators(in contact with admins)
ZooL posted a topic in Site & Forum Matters
I have sent a message to the mods about a specific issue and have received no reply(many weeks ago)(i also pm'ed a mod with no reply). There are also more and more issues presenting that are not being resolved or addressed, In all my time on the internet this site is by far one of the best communities i have ever encountered and it would be an extreme shame to let this site fall or degrade due to lack of mod/admin engagement. I request that either current admins/mods engage/maintain the site more or they put effort into finding new talent(trusted) that can do so.- 1 reply

I have noticed if you add oven dried rose pedals to the secondary fermentation of apple cider it results in something that smells and tastes much more like beer than cider. Anyone else into home brew and have any weird tips or favorite recipes?(entho cider recipes and ideas also welcome..)

Share your dreams (the sleeping kind, not the "I want a pony" kind)
ZooL replied to gtarman's topic in Chill Space
Recently i have had repeat dreams where some time randomly during the dream i begin to drink from a 1.25lt soda bottle. As soon as i start drinking it's like I am drinking near boiling urine. Then shortly after i wake up extremely thirsty and have a craving to go to the fridge and start sculling any softdrink i can find. I'm pretty sure i'm just getting heartburn while sleeping. -
Has anyone here ever used any of these apps and know how well the preform and how specific they are with identification?

cool thank, might give that trial a shot then. even narrowing things down would help.

Are there any delerients where risk of a toxic overdose is extremely unlikely or not a valid risk to consider? I have done a bit of searching and can't really find anything aside from some obscure synthetics. This is just a curiosity things btw.
