So I've done a little research on this subject, and tomorrow I will call AQIS and Customs as well. But it does definitely look like Sassafras Albidum Root Bark is definitely LEGAL to possess in Australia. It also looks like it is legal to import into the country as well as long as the Powdered Root Bark is obviously free of any fecal matter, animal matter, seeds, dirt etc... I'll quote some articles from both AQIS and Customs pertaining to this matter to substantiate my claims : Import case details - public listing New Search -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Commodity: Sassafras albidum, Dried - [Root] Scientific name: Sassafras albidum Country: All countries End use: All uses other than as animal foods, fertilisers or for growing purposes Date printed: Sep 27 2009 Condition C9482 Non-Commercial 1. An Import Permit is not required. 2. A Quarantine Entry is not required. 3. All material in the consignment must be labelled with full botanical names i.e. genus and species. Each package must be labelled. Alternatively if the goods are easily identifiable, then there is no requirement of the botanical nomenclature. 4. All material in the consignment must be thoroughly dried and not capable of propagation. 5. Each consignment will be subject to an inspection to verify that it is free of prohibited seeds, live insects, soil and other quarantine risk material. 6. If the consignment does not meet the above conditions it will be treated as detailed in the Commercial conditions below, re-exported or destroyed. AQIS website : Import Conditions Database. Furthmore to this information on AQIS, i found a pfd sheet from customs pertaining to the import of Safrole and Safrole products like the oils of the Sassafras and Cmaphor and Piper etc... The report does obviously mention that the oils are illegal without permit from the TGA. But the report mentions nothing about the wood products of the actual plants, namely the root bark of the Sassafras Albidum. So it does look like the all clear is there from Customs as well. Again, Ill post the details from that report below : AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS NOTICE NO. 2004/24 Safrole and Isosafrole in Essential Oils The purpose of this notice is to assist industry to identify potential imports of safrole, which requires an import licence issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Safrole and related compounds are properly imported under tariff items 2932.94.00 (safrole), 2932.91.00 (isosafrole), 2932.93.00 (piperonal) and 2932.90 (MDP2P, also known as 3,4 methylenedioxyphenyl-2-propanone, piperonylemetylketone, PMK). However Customs has observed shipments of safrole and safrole containing oils described as "essential oil(s)" (not otherwise described), "essential oil(s) other than citrus" or "essential oil(s) - other", mainly but not exclusively under tariff items 3301.29.00 and/or 3301.90.00. A description of goods covering an essential oil(s) consignment that contains any of the words or phrases: sassafras, safrole, isosafrole, sassafras oil, Chinese sassafras oil, yellow camphor oil, or brown camphor oil indicates with certainty that the goods contain safrole or isosafrole, and the importer must comply with import licensing and permit requirements. An exception to this is “white camphor oil”. Although coming from the same Chinese plant Cinnamomum camphora, the white camphor oil does not contain safrole and does not require a permit. A goods description of “camphor oil” or "Chinese camphor oil" is insufficient. Clarification from the owner as to the type of the oil (white, yellow or brown camphor oil) must be sought before making any determination or declaration that the goods do not contain safrole. In addition, high concentrations of safrole occur naturally in some, but not all, essential oils derived from plants of the genus Cinnamomum, cultivated commercially in South East Asia, a range of plants of the genus Ocotea and Piper, cultivated commercially in South America, and the plant Sassafras albidum, growing in North America. Any shipment of essential oils derived from the plants named Cinnamomum burmannii, Ocotea preciosa, Ocotea cymbarum and Piper hispidinervium may have a high content of safrole. Importation of generically described essential oils by a consignee apparently unconnected with flavours and fragrances industry, perfumery and cosmetics industry, pharmaceutical or chemical industry might be an indicator of covert supply of safrole to clandestine manufacture of illicit drugs in Australia. I found one supplier of the herb in Australia and gave them a call but they will only sell to registered businesses in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. So I guess that's the end of that. There is an abundance of the herb and tree is the USA. Grrr. Thanks for the help and tips though

Hey Guys, It's been a few years since I've been here, still really glad the site is still up and still really active with the shop adding heaps of new products. I've got a basic question here... Is Sassafras Albidum Root Bark Powder legal in Australia ? I notice that it is available here at Shaman Australis, and that, to me, suggests that obviously it is clearly legal. But if this is the case howcome no other ethnobotancial supplier, or any supplers at all in Australia really supplies this dried herb ? I know that this herb does have clear health risks and can be carcinogenic, and that would be a reason for its limited sale despite its legality, but still, to have no one really sell this herb at all is quite strange. And so I beg the question... Is this herb fully legal ? is it a grey area ? does it need to be declared ? etc etc...? The reason I ask is becuase I seek roughly 2000g of the dried herb. It's a little bit too expensive to buy in the smaller quantities advertised here, althought I probably will still buy one or two to add to my ethnobotanical collection. Thanks in advance guys.

Hi all I havent been prolific on this site for a long time now, basically the hobby of ethnobotany grew and grew and then I acquired some plants I wanted, and then started growing them and now the interest has ebbed somewhat. It was a good ride though and I learnt alot from you all. I can now add Ethnobotany to my other intellectual hobbies including, Electronics, Chemistry, Engineering and the Universe. Basically if there is one thing I did notice while traversing through this community for quite some months was that lots of members arent in too great of financial positions, whether that be your personal choice or for medical / social reasons or life has dealt you a bad hand. For the past two months I have started to learn a wealth of information on the Sharemarket and inparticular the ASX. I used to be one who though, yeah id love to share trade but this is for the big boys with capital of over $100K etc, otherwise its really a waste of time. That was my first mistake, if only I had realised that years ago instead of only this year. I got books out from the library and perused australian stock forums and internet encylopaedias. Although i learnt my vast amount of knowledge from the books as one would expect, the forums provided alot of real life discussions which i valued highly, much like this forum. So I joined COMMSEC and Became CHESS Sponsored and Opened a CDIA account and I was ready to go. To open a CDIA account one needs to have $5K in liquid assets, but if you dont thats fine you can just link to your present bank account, it just means your brokerage fee's are $10 higher (not much). So thursday i was ready to place a buy order for a company which I had been looking at for some time and i thought was going to jump. At 3pm (market closes at 4pm)thurs i placed an order worth about $3 800 and then turned off the computer and did my own thing, i knew that tomorrow I wouldnt be home to monitor my shares so I told COMMSEC to sell all my units when it reached a certain amount which i beleived was high enough with out risking the price to come down. So midday today I log on to COMMSEC to see that at midday it sold all my units for a total of $4 500. In 4 business hours i had made more than 700bucks i was as happy as a pig in shit. Im now looking to diversify to protect myself etc... I can see the stockmarket becoming quite a good tool for self financial gains. Stock in MBL, MMX, AAR, CGJ, FNT are hot on my mind. You people here should look into it, you only need 1-2K to start up. This is the Burj Dubai, Being constructed in the City of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. As of today is it 445m tall and 125stories high, it will top out at between 800-900m (no one is sure, it is a secret) and have over 180 floors. As of today it is the 3rd tallest building in the world and has just over taken the sears tower in chicago. The current worlds tallest is 514m tall and is the Tapei 101 building in Tapei, Taiwan. I thought you guys would like this picture becuase it has some palms in it. haha.

So it all started like this.. mum and dad are on holidays and so is my little brother. They are in... i think Fort Lauderdale FL. any way they get back tomorrow. So on friday i had some other friends over. and ok so amy had way to much to drink at my place.. well we all had shit loads to sdrink, but she just loves the goon. haha. so umm we were all smashed even before we went out clubin ! So we are in the club and only after about 20mins they kicked amy and i out, caus " we were havin too much fun " haha, u should see the pics... fuckin hot little dress she was in ;P And so we got back to my place after not long.. still pissed and everything... and in the heat of the moment we knocked the plasma tv of the wall. !@!!!!! Ha fooook. jesus christ..it was hanging up over a 1m off the ground and it was 127cm and weighed about like 25kg, and the laws of physics and chemisty took over and fucked it up bad. anyway i just thought id tell you playa's caus i know some of you will have a laugh ! haha.

Ok i didnt want to start a new thread, so ill just add on here. I was reading a case study on a salvia and i got really confused... This salvia in the case study was planted in soil, i know it should have been with perlite as well for aeration, but it wasnt, and it was still doing fine. The temp has been a constant between 18-26 the last 5 days or so...and the weather was drizzle (very light), one morning it looked fine, in the arvo it was fully weeped, like it was about to die literally... there was no sun either. it was over cast ! What the hell happened !

I remember years ago when i worked at maccas part time in grade 11 and 12 we had this guy we all called "the goat" or just "goat", we used to all just go "maaaaaa" when we saw hium, it woudlnt surprise me if he has social problems now becuase of it. haha I remember all the back area guys and even two of the cool manager went out the back and chucked bens bike up on the roof and put sauce and shit all over his bike haha. then we came bhack and blamed it all on goat. haha it was all in good fun though, ben knew it wasnt goat, but pretended he thought it was him.. haha annnyway Yeah good avator man.

Thanks for the good reply sobriquet. It does help me to understand it all, specially since it rarely ever get dreams let alone such large ones that i can remember almost completely. If i had a choice to wake up or stay in my dream world, i would have stayed in the dream world! I hope i have a good dream tonight as well. But yeah, thanks for reading it.

I had the weirdest dream last night. Have a read of it, maybe some one can comment on it, even if you cant I still wanna share this weird dream with you guys.. See usually I don’t remember dreams and most times I don’t have them at all. --------- Ok so it started off at home here in Australia and I cant remember it all, but next thing me and mum and dad are rushing in the airport, and then were on a plane, and its going to San Francisco It lands at San Francisco and we started going shopping, we were in this massive shopping mall and the music was really loud they were playing “DJ Sammy – Heaven” So we were back at the apartment and I got a text message saying my brother is missing. And he is back in Australia. I'm panicking and I don’t know what to do at the start. So mum and me start to coordinate to find out who did it, by ringing around asking people and stuff like that. The weird thing though is that we didn’t leave San Francisco to come back home. And I remember being really frustrated and mum is crying and its weeks later, and I get a text message saying “Simon was found mutilated”. I remember feeling sick all over. Then the dream skips to another angle and mum is on the phone when some one tells her “Simon was found mutilated” I remember she went all white and just threw up. I then remember myself thinking for a while and frantically trying to call people to see whether he was still alive or not, even though I was pretty sure. For the rest of that dream I kept trying to find Simon dead or alive, and finding out information on who did it and why and where he was at the time. But I just could never find out. And we never left San Francisco either. That dream lasted me all night and I woke up by the alarm at 6.30am and I remembered it all vividly, I remember feeling kind of unsafe in my room like there was some one there watching me, waiting to kill me. I went back to sleep for another hour, and I did fall back to sleep straight away. It was a totally different dream… and it went in no order really.’ Straight away all I remember was making out with this girl, she was tall (my height) long wavy natural blonde hair, nice figure and had a great personality. For some reason I have this nagging suspicion her name was sammy?? Related to the song at the start of the other dream ??? We were making out on a bed, and it wasn’t at my house and I don’t think it was hers either. I was on top and just heavy making out at the start, which progressed etc… Then it went really weird, she was driving me in her car along the riverside expressway in Brisbane, then she just stopped and I jumped out and ran across the expressway (because it was closed as they were resurfacing it). I remember running past all the crowds to the top steps at the treasury casino, and I was looking down upon everyone. Then I turned my head around and I was in the middle of the out back in Australia on a guided holiday tour. I remember seeing that blonde girl there as a tourist (don’t know if she was foreign or Aussie) and the tour guide then stuck a rod into the ground and then sucked some water out and asked us all if we wanted to drink some bore water. I jumped right in and started drinking some. And that blonde girl was laughing and saying “ohhh id never drink that water”, she wasn’t laughing in a patronising tone, more like she thought I was funny. I think that’s maybe where I met her? Then straight away it skips to us to maccas and my mate Paul is there and so is that blonde girl and her female friend, and we are sitting eating lunch and making out, and next to me are some Coca seedlings of mine that I’m looking after??? Then we went to the beach and she’s topless and asking me to join her, then it goes to Paul’s house and I’m sleeping the night there and so is she, I’m in another bedroom and I remember thinking.. I really wanna see her right now, I know I saw her the last two nights, but I’ve got to again. And I walked outside Paul’s house and started tapping on the glass and she gets up, and for a while she’s not sure, because she says she’s tired from partying with me the last two nights, but in the end she does come out with me. and we were walking and laughing when I woke up again. A really really really strange thing that happened somewhere in the second dream near the end was, all of a sudden “Simon was found mutilated” thing came up at the newspaper I was reading at maccas, it had all the info I was looking for in the previous dream. He was murdered by a sick de ranged man who cut off his hands and then with a meat hook stabbed him with it many times in the stomach and in the back, then cut his toes off. I remembered feeling very sick…it then said he was buried in the ground. This next bit is really weird.. It says Simon was murdered with three other people, two girls and a midget for some reason?? They were all together when the man murdered them and they were all killed in the same fashion. There was a photo in the newspaper they last one ever caught of all of them together, and it was in that blonde girls car in the maccas drive through camera. I remembered feeling confused.. Like the girl that I loved was going to die?? Or had already died?? When I was sitting there reading the paper I thought.. Simon was only killed because that blonde girls boyfriend, must have known she was sleeping with me, and went out to kill me, but Simon was in the car instead of me but he didn’t know, and still proceeded to kill everyone. Then the dream went back to normal like me making out with that blonde girl on the bed. When I woke up at 7.45 I remembered it all vividly and its not 9am at work and I’m writing it all down. ----- That is it. Pretty good yet bad and strange hey? Why did we go to San Francisco? Why did Simon die? Why didn’t we come back to Australia when we found out? Why was sammy interconnected to the whole thing? Why was I running on the riverside expressway? Why was I in the middle of Australia drinking bore water?

jesus christ! certaintly got my attention there! hahah. even though i didnt think it could be true. haha nice one. The reason why MDMA is not found in plants naturally is purely ramdon chance. There is nothing in the chemical make up of the compound that suggests it is uncapabale of forming due to natural processes. it is simply random luck that it isnt. Safrol is probably the closest we have to MDMA. and i know that is a poison and thats the reason why it is in the root bark of the campor trees, to kill off any other competition from other plant roots.
