Hey all,
My block of coco coir has been sitting out the front of my house for sometime (months), still dry.
Is pasteurisation going to cut it or are contaminants going to run wild and should I just buy another block.
Has anyone had success with an older block of coir or is it important that it's clean.
Cheers all!

Hey all,
I am 95% sure I am taking spore prints of wild cubensis found growing out of a cow pat outside of Newcastle but a couple of things are stumping me.
The stipe (not pictured) has a purple/black annulus present although with no blue bruising and the dried caps are papery, thin and spongey.
Is this consistent with your experiences of wild cubensis?
Cheers guys! I love the spore prints from these

Are you aware that it's online now? I like having the physical library too but thought you (or others reading this) may not know about this amazing resource.
Yeah definitely do - it cant replace the physical thing for me haha
Likewise! Will let you know if i come across any doubles. Which do you have and which are you after?

Hey all!
Just started an ambitious quest in hunting down all volumes of Flora of Australia, (5 so far...)
If anyone has any volumes lying around, collecting dust or looking for a better home please let me know - they are about as in-depth as i can find when it comes to identification!
Thanks so much everyone!

fyzygy is right and also i've found cultivated floribunda to be less hardy

Hey all!
Been a while since i'be been active
I'm after some Acacia floribunda seeds taken from wild plants (on properties etc)
I seem to have misplaced all mine
Happy to $$ or trade if there's anything you're after!
Thanks!

to answer my own question...

Okay, thats great to know. I just shook it (Not sure if this was a mistake) and ill wait for it to return to how it was and ill transfer to some hard wood pellets or something similar
Thanks!

That mycelium doesn't look unusual for H. erinaceous.
Does full colonisation look completely white?

No expert by any means and maybe I am misinterpreting... I have heard if your monotub is dialled in (search shroomery if not familiar with dialling in), and you have good clean genetics you should be seeing at least 2 or 3 flushes. As you say regularly your fruits may be ready for picking at different times - just grab them as they’re ready and at some point probably within 3-4 days of your first fruit being ready you can just pick them all. In my mind that signals the end of the first flush. Depending on conditions you may need to soak or mist your substrate at this point but if you have maintained optimal conditions you should be right just waiting for the second flush. Can be from 3-10 days I think roughly before you will see your next set of pins and the start of your second flush. From there repeat... 3rd and 4th flush I have found normally less pins but quite often big fruits. By 3rd or 4th I’m normally starting to see trich and then it goes to the compost.
hope this helps!
z
edit: re-read - if you mean how do you get a full canopy, like all fruits similar size and fruiting at the same time? Then I’m pretty sure it comes down to genetics and often cloning plus perfect conditions. Still dream of the full canopy!
Thank you so much, you managed to decode my post pretty well haha!
I never realised how much genetics would play a role so i'll have to have a play around with clones etc
Cheers!

Hey all!
Through all my fungal projects i have never noticed "flushes".
Growth seems to be uncoordinated - if i were to harvest as soon as the mature fruit was ready i would be harvesting some under developed fruit with them.
I was hoping someone could tell me what conditions should be met to coordinate flushes.
Thanks again guys!

Exciting news!
Why isn't it more widely practiced? I've even heard people say its easier to start from scratch than to feed a monotub haha

8 hours ago, acasshia said:@TheMooseZeus How did you go with this one? Did you have any success?
Sure did! Thanks for reminding me to make an update - it didn't spread any further than the picture and the tub was A-OK!

Hey all!
Haven't seen much on splitting a colonised but healthy monotub and mixing with fresh substrate...
Is there any reason this wouldn't work?
Cheers!

Putting salt on moulds can stunt them and give the myc a chance to outcompete them. It looks a lot better seeing the whole tub rather than seeing just that one small section.
Woo! Glad to hear it - slime mould would be be interesting... its not particularly slimy (looking) at all

2 hours ago, Zonad said:@TheMooseZeus - so hard to tell from the photos. I notice that the mono doesn’t have the standard fae holes I’m accustomed to. It’s also pretty cold for growing cubes at the moment which seems to slow everything down and increase problems in my limited experience. Mycology will do your head in... just when you think you have everything down pat, trich will appear. Hopefully you get a decent flush for your hard work! Keep trying and learning. A great teacher of patience and perseverance!Day 18 and first few pins showing.
photos for motivation!
God bless you! It's a bit of a mental game hey! And you're so right they're already giving me the lessons I'm after
Cheers!

12 hours ago, Northerner said:Nah man. It's fucked. You can grow it out anyway if you like, but it's not a winner. Might get a small flush.
You could make an outside patch with the spawn. The cube will win the fight out there in a semi shaded position if you're warm enough. Might still be a bit wintery at the moment. Bury it 10-15cm thick with a 1cm casing sprinkled with grass seed if you have it. Cover it in plastic for a couple of weeks, uncover and water lightly. Will fruit 2 weeks later.
Here's the tote 12 days after spawning.
Any idea what the contam is or more importantly how it can be avoided in the future?
EDIT: I used probably half the grain spawn i should have in the tub so colonisation is expected to be slow, i'll continue to grow it out, no real harm in that

its definitely not strong growth, something i should be worried about? it hasn't really taken off
any "fix"??
Cheers!

I'm by no means a monotub expert or a cobweb mold expert, but I remember reading a post on reddit about this, and the focus point was YOU. DO. NOT. HAVE. COBWEB.
Cobweb is very rare, and sometimes myc is just thin/stringy like in the pic you have.
you need to look out if it starts looking like this
Hope that helps.

P.S. found the reddit link https://www.reddit.com/r/unclebens/comments/gzg5zd/listen_the_fck_up_you_do_not_have_cobweb/
Woah, thanks so much!
I guess im not alone in my hypochondria haha

Ay! Glad there's a threat for this!
Just set up a homemade incubator and hatched 3/12 eggs which is a terrible hatch rate! I have a lot to work on for my next hatch.
Sadly one chick died the other night so im left with two but im picking up 4 chicks on Tuesday. I'll post some pics of the little guys.
Glad there's a quail culture on the site

Hey all!
Refrigerated some of my colonised jars for a few months but they're quickly springing back into action.
I noticed this anomaly in one of the jars (the largest ).
I'm assuming its yeast (but hoping its primordia forming lol) thankfully isn't present in any other jar.
I'm planning to fruit it in a separate small tub as I'm told yeast contam can prevent fruiting.
What are your thoughts on this? Have you seen these spots before and is it consistent with yeast?
Thanks so much everyone!
