    Pesticide made from Nicotiana rustica

A few things - When making pesticide surely nornicotine is preferred over nicotine. I left some dried and fresh leaves in a spray bottle in the sun and i have started using that on aphids on my corn plants. Not sure if thats working yet. Pretty sure nicotine is incredibly water soluble so i assume the spray bottle wont be contaminated forever. I can't help but think rustica tea can "clean" pests out of soil too

    Acacia Germination

Yeah sweet, whatever works for you man. I dont trust myself enough to nick or sand the seeds - i find boiling water has less room for error. I hope you get those phlebophylla up!!

    Acacia Germination

They stay viable for a long ass time. I always pour boiling water over mine and leave them soaking for 12 hours though. You should see sprouting with treated seeds

Have we missed 1st contact from aliens?

I don't think its entirely impossible to communicate with future time streams of ourselves. Depending on whichever model of the universe is correct, how time if effected by gravity, blackholes etc transmitting a message in one directions in the future very may well send it flying back the way it came in space and back (Or forward) in time...

In the sprit of Christmas TREES!

Hello! Can we talk about peoples choice in Christmas tree? Pine seems to be the most traditional and festive and fits nicely into the myths and legends surrounded Christmas. Why does everyone go with fir?! I would love to see more pine trees out there. Radiata pine is supposed to be the most common Christmas tree in Aus. Cheers guy! Happy holidays

When is it time to harvest leaves? Many of mine are beginning to turn yellow but it seems early in the season. I have been collecting the seedpods to prevent the spread of the plants

Growing B. Caapi and P. Viridis in Central Victoria

I'd be worried about shocking the plants with the change in environment - Is a larger greenhouse possible? I would do an experiment with viridis cuttings from leaves :D
  24. Hey all! I'm very torn on the ethics of a bonsai - On one hand its torture to the plant but on the other it brings the individual closer to nature... I have a few Radiata pine seedlings growing at the moment and was thinking about getting into the art of Bonsai (But i want a clean conscience ) I would love to hear some opinions Thanks again!

    Bonsai Ethics

That is really quite something to think about. A more western way of think is that a tree is a benign object of this world, thus excusing the torture though bonsai is not a western practice. Plants appear to have no consciousness on a surface level but this doesn't excuse the fact that an ineffable number of plants can, will and have had a profound impact on the consciousness of society and individuals. You could of course argue that growing a tree out of its natural environment is torture in the same way as taking a child from their family, trees require mycorrhizal relationships, some of these fungi aren't available in other locations. (And we've all seen the size of bonsai pots. There's not a lot of room for anything in there) Alternatively maybe we should be careful of projecting human emotions onto plants? Thanks for the kind words too, that really means a lot
