  1. A decade+ old Cycad (prehistoric type Australian ferny thing),   I'm not sure if its a male or a female,   its bearing seed so that means female yeah?

There is two of them and they're both different (i think ones male and ones female) - the other one shot a long cock-like fruit salad looking pod thing (no noticable seeds)
This one shot a big golden orb (totally different), now the orbs starting to open a bit and its full of those pink seeds/nuts.

Interesting, and aesthetically pleasing too. 30-40cm cycads at bunnings are like $150 - this bastard would be worth a fortune.

Does anyone know about propagating?  I'll google it,  but maybe someone knows first hand?

One thing worth noting about this plant is its absolutely hilarious current scientific name:

Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus (pronounced [shuv' my dick in ya anus])

^ Now I must have it.

  3. I'm planning a slip 'n fall at woolies in the next 6 weeks.
Should fund some varegates in the future....

Cash is the main restriction Inyan, or I'd have some much rarer pieces I think.
Hopefully this woolies thing works out... Fingers crossed.     :innocent_n:

  4. Hey, @moon_unit I had you mistaken for @MoonUnitBotanica

Was looking for a cut of "Boultwood" that apparently originally came from him. Looks like he hasn't been on SAB for months and months though, hes active on ebay, probably FB, and has a website of his own. If I did send you a PM, discard it, but i think I actually sent BOTANICA the PM who hasn't replied, then I saw you and bailed you up thinking you were him (very similar names).

Happy gardening anyway moon_unit. Enjoy our Pachamama and the fruits she bares.

  5. Yeah I'll retire & die here me thinks, no chance we would ever sell unless absolutely forced to, the cactus in ground reinforces this for me.
Should be an impressive garden when its complete. Everyone's welcome to come check it out.  B)

  6. I had Rosei and Yowie flower same time, fresh pollen was used to cross both clones, yeah I didn't try to use the yowie pollen on the yowie itself, I transported it to the rosei and visa versa.
Premature removal of the rotten flowers potentially too close to the column or a not liberal enough powder puffing with the pollen is my guess as to the lack of results(?).
Winds can pick up here and blow the flowers around a fair bit too, maybe they get severed at the base if they blow around too violently.

  7. I like the Cycad in the center with the golden ball in the guts.
We had a female about same size throw a huge seedpod already, this one is different, it might be a male...
Could be throwing new leaves but it looks strange man, bit of a mystery at this age (more than a decade old).

  8. My old man purchased the block like 35 years ago, vacant and has been slowly building it up ever since.
Hes a sparky (so am I, just not a very good one) and a owner/builder. He's the one with the skill & the vision.
I just help with the heavy lifting & buy the plants.

Nothing was here, we did it all ourselves...
Built the retaining walls, moved tons of rock down a cliff face (steep block) to build the retaining walls...
Shitloads timber sleepers cage and stone... And soillllll...

Will have more pics over the next 2 months, we're aiming to have the other side of this tier finished & planted out before winter.

  9. I don't think I pollinated correctly, we didn't get any fruit.
Although my mum came through like a week after I pollinated with the shits and cut the rotten flowers off the cactus, but its the bases of the flower pods that create the fruit anyway isn't it, the bases were left attached but still no fruit...   She might of cut em too low/close to the column.

I wasn't really ready, or expecting, or really knowing what to do when shit flowered lol, was beautiful to see though.
I will be better prepared next time. I doubt ill get many flowers next season, I reckon a lot of my flowers were stored energy from the larger plants they were cut from.

  10. Thank you Inyan,
Something told me to start collecting about 12 months ago.
I've become a hermit in that time and just devoted myself to it, finally getting things in ground in under a year of purchasing a lot.
Very satisfying! but farrrr from finished yet,

  11. The colums in the raised planters are sitting in there temporarily,  raised planters that are going cross ways will have Carissa planted in em, but the north stretching raised planter will be all TBM's. The columns in-ground are mostly out of there pots, one or two burried in-pot that i will dig up in 4 weeks and fuck the pot off of.

Didn't need to smash the pots so far, wrapped column in a towel and got a rubber mallet and with two people we knocked the pots off fairly easily...    Its good to water the fuck out of em, and loosen them up a bit with a little hand shovel, then lift holding column with towel and knock pot downward with rubber mallet. Pots come away pretty easily this way.

All the pots were basically rootbound within 6 months of potting up up unrooted cuttings...  Has been quick in this weather in terracotta pots.
I loosened / teased out the roots a bit and planted directly in-soil for a lot of specimens. Hope everyone does well.

  12. Its a steep block, hard to capture it in one shot:
    nobeach.thumb.jpg.4a2247c9b7642b9eddd443afcb6cd547.jpg

Our block finishes shortly after where that old timber walkway ends, then there's a few meters of crown land lawn, then sand...
So repeating this tier'd style backyard for as long as the property allows (stepping down for another 3 or 4 tiers maybe) keeping the cactus theme the same throughout. Will throw plenty down on crown land too, spreading the love either side onto the neighbours crown-land-extended backyards as well .

Only about 3 or 4 residents that maintain it, the council doesn't come and mow, the public doesn't walk through either and there is no back fences, open space... It's nice.

  13. Thanks mate,
Finally starting to get some things out of their pots and into direct soil.

Going to follow that raised TBM hedge along the North wall like that all the way down to the sand.
This is one half of the first tier, still have to plant out the other half (side) too...Then repeat, same style for 3-4 tiers till our backyard runs out. Will be all cactus, (TBM & columns).

I love these plants, they're highly ornamental year round (form and flower). I'm planting only in pairs to compare growth parameters etc.
    In ground there you see;
    2x Yowie,
    2x KK339 (ecuadorian pach),
    2x Dawsons Peru (Either d1 or d2),
    2x LEN (macro or peru?)

    got 2x Psycho0
and 2x Mildura Bridge behind it too:

Always planting in pairs, if that makes sense? trying to keep all bridge up the back, pach on the sides and peru's up the front.

So I didn't call them anything and farked if I know what Rosei is but this guy saw fit to label them that decades ago.

I've heard that the Rosei's (1 and 2) come from Fields Farm. Old imports from long before any change of laws. Not sure how accurate this statement is though.
Tis a lovely looking peruvianus regardless mate. Got any in-ground mature specimens you'd like to share pics of?  I'd love to see an old specimen.

  15. Phuck thats a good looking Peruvianus, and it does look a little different to Rosei1, it looks more hmm, SIGNIFICANT.
Stunningly lovely blue hues, hardon material mate. I think I will have to source 2 to 4 tip cuts in the future, but fear that might be difficult for some years (rarity etc). Lucky duck, enjoy your stunning plants mate.

Said to be Roseii no.1 Big thanks.to Micromegas.

    Wtf lol... ?
Has it got Rosei1 in its lineage or is it an ACTUAL Rosei1 clone?
MM wouldn't just get a fields original clone and rename it as his own creation? I don't imagine anyway, haha.

Looks maybe a bit lighter and a bit bluer than the Rosei1's that I am familiar with.  Impressive looking peru none the less.
You've got some cracker trichos HD - good on you mate.     :worship:

  17. ^ Hectic.

Do any trichos at all suffer in those 40degree heats (Peru's / bridges / pachs / macro / cuzco /  all the common trichs)?
I don't really mean de-hydrated, I guess dehydration could happen on 20 degree days if you straight up stop watering all together. I just mean the heat in general,  do any trichs get knocked around by hideously hot days?

I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to growing from seed, never have done it, bit hesitant due to the time required etc.... I'd wanna drop king cash on a few fat 4 foot tip cut that'd match my body weight lol...
Its just postage that'd be a drama,  guess I'd have to go driving cross country to land plants like that.

  18. They are really good looking trichos the Terschekii aye HD, good on you mate.
I think I might have to go source a pair or two of Ters cuttings for my own caccy garden.

There's more than just 1  "Terschekii"  phenotype/clone in Aus aye?
I think I've heard of a SA Terschekii here,  weather that means South American or South Australian, I'm not sure.

Enjoy the gardening mate, everything's looking healthy & happy.

EDIT: I picked up a seedgrown Terschekii at bunnings too like 3 years ago and the things BARELY grown at all lol....    very very slow.
