lighters are so cool, every once in a while I sit back and think just how amazing it is that I have fire at the click of my thumb
  5. thanks for replies people, gunna go with a geotextile I think, covered by 3-4 inches of compacted rock.....when I get around to it, im just bandaiding at the moment. rapidly running out of space in my current area though so will have to get onto it soon. I think winter will be construction time, I keep clearing cacti to make room for sheds and shadehouse but cactus keeps coming in and re taking the space. winter will give me time.
  6. Ive been using 2mm Black plastic as a ground cover to eliminate the job of weeding around pots, its been fine for years but at my new joint the heat is obviously a lot more penetrative and within 6 months the new plastic is starting to tear and rip and just generally deteriorate. Im looking for a cost effective (I wont tell you how much ive spent on black plastic..lol) method of ground cover that will stand up to the test of time and harsh conditions. any....any ideas would be appreciated, bearing in mind that this is what I would call mid to large scale so needs to be able to be done en mass, and cost effective.

Bump. price too high? feel free to make an offer but I wont go less than $1/cm. the cuttings are short because my new post office charges me for cubing which my old post office never did, so gone are the days I could send you a 90cm cutting and only pay postage on the weight. EDIT - except internationals, internationals are charged only by weight only so I can send a 90cm tip no worries. prices here youre welcome to ask for a longer cutting in oz but be aware that the postage will be rich.
  9. finally ordered my copy today, I am terribly sorry EG, I cant afford 5 books at the moment, just 1.

we were liberal with the cuts and courteous with the request, theres very decent stumps left that will pup strongly I think. in so many words I said to him I know you've only got a couple of these so if you wanna hang onto them that's fine, but wed love to take them if we can, he said yes. I drove 650km one way without knowing exactly where I was going, then spent 2 hours driving around, knocked on a few doors, then spent 5 hours in 40 degree heat waiting for him to get home, then spent the night in a motel and did it the next morning. so I feel I deserved what I got, it was the mission of a lifetime and certainly the score of a lifetime too! give me say 5 years and I might have a few pups to share, im undecided yet whether to cut and propagate or plant as one. oh yeah, by the time we were done it was 46 degrees, I had a swim.
  11. yep, took about an 1/8 of a second to tell it was CPM when I saw it in the flesh. case closed.
  12. getting ready to embark on quite a long journey for this monstrose, was hoping for an id...do I see tits? I have cereus aethiops monstrose and cereus peruvianus monstrose but I thought this guy looked a little different. the drive will be worth it just for the scop but am keen for an id on the monstrose. cheers

I think its worth mentioning also... I read somewhere that dawson and gill had about 2000 different plants in their heyday, plus seeds, so I wouldn't focus just on fields. dawsons was started in the 30's too. Dawsons also operated as a quarantine station at some point along the way so who knows how many plants may have passed through their hands. Granted these plants here would have been from very early on.

in my opinion theres no way "tip1" and "tip2" are from the same sa ss mother plant. if anything the tip1 and 2 get less sun as there is a shade tree over them slightly. the mother plant is full bearing sun. this pic is the 2 tips on the left, not sure which is 1 or 2, and 2 sa ss tips on the right. I know growing conditions affect growth greatly but im not at all convinced this is the case here.
  15. yeah that would be my default position, but I was thinking theres more boob action on this guy than most cereus peruvianus monstrose ive seen. Im cool on the scop, theres no mistaking that.
  16. time is of the essence now.. any thoughts? im gunna get it either way but would love an id..
  17. buying at the local so probably more than bunnings, just tryin to spend money in the community. but will be buying from bunnings from now on and checking the uv rating
  18. I thought I was buying expensive plastic 158$ for 4x50m, my last lot stood up for years but this new stuff is 6 months at best, gunna get an excavator in and do a heap of jobs one being creating a flat cacti are with 4inches of compacted rock locked in by treated pine sleepers
