    Germinating Newbie

Peace brother, very happy for you. Its a great feeling. Also be wary if you want to graft them young. I murdered a lot of my babies with ideas of fast growth via surgery. Then again you might have skills I dont mate

    Bucks Party Location Ideas

Gday fellow humans, I'm getting hitched next april. It will be great. However as maybe some of you have struggled with before I cannot figure out my bucks. I got no interest in strippers. I don't drink. I do enjoy most other debauchery however. I'm thinking that finding a property somewhere in NSW between casino, tenterfield and nimbin for my mates and I to get weird in would be good. I'd also like to put a bit of money into some communities I know have been doing it tough with our country being on fire and all. Requirements Loud music for extended periods of time isn't a problem 4 or 5 nights over a weekend Probably in February Welcoming of fellow psychonauts Peace

    Bucks Party Location Ideas

thanks SayN I like the idea of an adventure activity. 4 or 5 nights is just how long it tends to take me to get up to speed and back down again. But it might be nice to have an event people can come and go to Simon
  5. Sorry for bad photos and for not being on the forum for a little while now. Here are a few of my babies. These are my long lived Peruvian torch hybrids. They had a hard beginning because I was a novice. Grown from seed. Will attempt to graft one to peresk at some point. Speaking of Peresk, here are my bunch. They were also poorly cared for, for a time. Received this girl and think she is just beautiful. Has such a blue hue in the winter. Don't know what this is, got it last week. Looks alien. Getting to big for the pot, I need to either repot or cut back. Mammillaria cristata is just amazing. Bought this little dude a few years ago. Seen some nice growth. Pretty happy plant. Thanks for seeing my babies. Any advice on the Brain would be much appreciated. Regards, Dekes

    New to cactus

@Humboldt There is something so magical about one human offering to share with another human a cactus, that doesn't look like a cactus, cannot be bought, that is fast growing and is only owned by those of us who were also once offered said cactus. Peresk are such a fantastic symbol of what we do and who we are.
  7. freespirit420 I love it mate. There is quite the origin to my Brain. I was having an issue with migraines. I ended up in emergency twice. It was really starting to impact on my life and so I said that's it enough this stops and found a solution. In celebration of overcoming this issue I bought the crested bad boy, having always thought they looked like brains, I then found the pot online and bob's you uncle. I have given it more attention than a lot of my other plants and I reckon it has the best spot on my little balcony. I was thinking I have 2 options. Either I repot it into something (cool and unique of course) or I do some surgery and essentially regrow the brain but also pot a segment elsewhere. I have had limited success with cuttings but have never tried with something exhibiting mutation. Peace to you too and thanks for the ups acasshia
  8. Found this gal at a homewares store. The soil is full of wood chips. Will repot immediately. Could I get an ID please and help with what I think is scale? Peace.
  9. I have some pereskiopsis living outside in a pot in the open. I live on the second floor (3rd for you yanks) of an apartment and have noticed something has had a munch at some leaves. Just wondering if anyone knows what might have done this and how to go about stopping it? I have little general gardening knowledge so any advice would be much appreciated. Need these guys strong and healthy to help support some trichs ill graft in a few weeks.

    Peresk Leaves getting Munched On

thanks Change. I would love a green house but just don't have the space. Got a few germ boxes but nothing bigger. Maybe I could make something around the pot ive already got. Unfortunately aesthetics matter a lot to my girlfriend and housemate. was quite the battle to get the pots I wanted.

Time to Begin; Lageniformis x 'KK1688'

These are my original sown seed. Quite proud of them. No lights, no heating, sown in Autumn. Very pleased. One of those guys there is a little smaller but also seems to have limited spines. Would love to see it keep growing without becoming real spiny. I have a tiny little lophophora williamsii about 3mm in diameter. I'm rather nervous about him. its the only loph I've got to germinate out of 10 seeds or so. will try grafting a trich or two in the coming weeks.
  14. Today I sowed my first seeds. I purchased them from SAB as Ech. Lageniformis x Ech. Peruviana 'KK1688' and sowed 12. I used a cactus soil mixed with about 50% perlite. Unfortunately the perlite wasn't as coarse as I would have liked. I then mixed and added some water before sterilising in the oven (100C) for 20 minutes. I purchased a small seed germinating box which should help increase humidity with spraying. I added my soil mixture to each of the 12 sections and then bathed the base in water before putting the potted area into the bottom covering. Next came the most exciting sowing. I sowed the seeds by just placing one in each section and then lightly misting before covering the germination box. I have sat it outside but out of direct sunlight. I may consider changing its position depending on temperature and sun. I still have enough seed to retry if I fail. Any advice welcome. I am very excited.

Alls going well in my cactii Kingdom. got some beautiful seedlings and some not so. tried and failed at grafting and will try again with bigger scions. been to bunnings a few times to acquire some terracotta pots. All my guys are outside now and some still with glad wrap coverings. sun burn is still a problem and my holiday to the states was not welcome by my cactii. Lets go summer!!! Pics to come.
  16. Hope everyone on the east coast of Australia is doing alright this morning. Lot of destruction. Had to empty water out a few pots. Lost a few peresk leaves that were outdoors. Come on sun!!! Dekeius

    East Coast of Australia Weather

Yeh people think they can beat the elements. As waterboy said all you can try and do is divert it away. On a more humourous note when i reached into a vending machine today to retrieve my peanuts the compartment where the purchases fall into was full of water. I guess flooding? That or rain is getting really wacky.

    Sowing seeds

IME if uve got them outside you probably will end up giving them too much sun early on (they go red). I've found shade cloth or just an old rag over my germination box works. Enjoy.

Time to Begin; Lageniformis x 'KK1688'

One graft failed and some idiot bumped another off so I did a bit of surgery and then decided to sow all the remaining seed I had. I now have trichs and lophs in a variety of organic and no organic soils. Got some lophs sown but none germinated. I've also tried a technique i found on the forums to get pereskiopsis to root in just a glass of water by a window. Got 2 of my seed trays indoors. With this amount of experimentation I'll get some success hopefully.

Update. Grafted 5 of my trichs and sowed some loph seeds. Seeds and pereskiopsis courtesy of a member Currently don't have any plastic for humidity or weights on the scion. Have them out of the sun though. The trichs were small and juicy. Will wait to see if the grafts take. Only question for now is what will happen to the base of the trichs i took to make my scions. Any chance they live?

Trich Seedlings Need Shade. But how?

A simple tshirt seemed to work. Some (probably not fully covered by tshirt or maybe receiving more radiation facing outwards) are still a little red. The green ones are certainly looking plumper.
  22. Got some trich seedlings which are nearly 3 weeks old. They were doing fine with just the plastic lid and were receiving sun protection from the soil mix and edges of germ box. However they are now a little red. So I have put a tshirt over them but fear this cuts out too much light. At the moment they get no direct sunlight but are outside. Unfortunately the image doesn't do the colour justice but they are red near the top especially. I was wondering about attaching a shade cloth directly to the top of the lid. Maybe starting with it doubled up. There is a lot of conflicting information on here about sunburnt trichs. Peace, Dekeius.

Trich Seedlings Need Shade. But how?

Thanks everyone. Karl Marx i am planning to graft but not every seedling so need a parallel plan. Will probably try a few things and see if anything changes.

Time to Begin; Lageniformis x 'KK1688'

For some reason I feel opposed to using a heat mat, don't really know why as I can get one for about $15. Maybe I will for my next go round. For now I am very pleased with the growth I'm getting. I believe I'm getting the very first areole atop some of my shoots. Bit hard to see in the photo however. Aiming to try a graft within 3 or 4 weeks time.

Time to Begin; Lageniformis x 'KK1688'

Finally I have life. I went away for the weekend and on my return have found the tiniest little green shoots. They are about 9 days old now, still outside, high humidity but out of the sun. My main concern is still temperature as we get closer to winter. Peace.
