  1. Haha, yeah well worth it. Mine is actually probs 3m telescopic type from Aldi. Good for cutting vines and banana leaves etc.

My plant flowered in the 3rd year from seed but not many flowers. Hoping this year will be better! Definitely likes hot weather.

You may have more luck with Rivea corymbosa - heaps of flowers on that

I got seed, if you want some lemme know.

    Cheers

  2. Anyone had contact with Misko in the last week?

Hate doing this but, out of concern for this great little community, I would recommend not doing any deals until my package has been received. It is overdue and I have waited five days for a tracking number - or any sort of response from Misko.

I really hope all is well, and there is a plausible explanation.

    Cheers

  3. Welcome back :)

Mine did the same thing last year. I pruned with really long (2m?) pruner then pulled some vines down, and re-positioned them. Very tough, I was swinging on them :P

One plant I cut right back to the main chunky stem, just leaving a couple of green shoots. This year it has regrown like crazy.

    Good luck!

  4. Well I started early since it has been so mild in QLD. Sowed/planted out some ethnos and edibles:

    Heavenly blue morning glory

    Heliotrope cherry pie

    Marigold anise

    Mimosa pudica

    Purple hyacinth beans

    Dwarf pineapple

    Dwarf red mulberry

    Atherton raspberry

    Naranjilla

    Sweet sandpaper fig

    20+ Tricho hybrids

    Mexican tarragon

    Sugar dragon (dragonfruit)

Lots more to come over the next few weeks, will try to get some pics!

    Cheers :)

  5. Apparently DE needs to be on the surface of the soil to act as a deterrent to snails/slugs. You can also top dress with coarse river sand.

Also for most insects I use neem oil, about 1 TBSP diluted into a 9L watering can. I rub the leaves (or use a soft brush for cacti) while showering the plants, then pour the rest into the soil around the plant to treat the roots.

For infestations I do this twice a week, until it clears. Works for me against scale which is my only real pest.

    Cheers :)

  6. Yes, I have pondered these questions many times.

Some of it I think is simply a cultural difference. A great example, which is more controversial, is the Japanese hunting of whales for meat. It seems to anger even those who eat most other meats. But is factory farming cows or shipping live lambs to the Middle East better or worse than hunting whales? To me, it's the same.

    3 hours ago, Glaukus said:

My logic here is that one cow might be able to feed, let's say 100 people, whereas a chicken might only feed 4. Therefore, you'd have to kill 25 chickens to feed the same number of people as one cow. Is a life of a chicken equivalent to a cow?

I wonder how many people one whale would feed? :P There is logic in killing less to feed more but I think it is more utilitarian/economical use of resources rather than an ethical difference.

    Its a tough one!
