Cactus/Succulent ID and Advice pls :)
miss-meander88 replied to miss-meander88's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Thats an idea thunderhorse i have found a home for it at a friends place who likes large cacti and succulents -
Hi there, Picked up this cactus cutting from a lovely lady that was clearing her overgrowth out She said it would be best for propagating pieces from it...but wasnt sure what it was... It appears to kinda look like a zygocactus in shape (very novice observance i know, sorry), but has black thorn, a very woody stem, very heavy and the mother plant seemed to have big beautiful flower buds on it... Anywho i am wondering: - what is it? - must i take cuttings from the green parts or can i plant the whole thing? - it appears to have some damage to it? What can i do to help that possibly? Thanks for your replies and sorry if theyre stupid questions

Its interesting as i have purchased, and have received from others, books that would definitely warrant burning now but were purchased from major chain bookstores in suburban shopping centres... I wonder if they are aware of this new legislation...

miss-meander88 replied to MountainGoat's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Ah fantastic so it was i hoped it was Yes I've left her out in the sun a few times and she wilts very quickly! I am unsure what the holes are, hopefully it doesnt happen to any of the new leaves... Wow sounds beautiful but somewhat a frustration - dont get an american bulldog x bull arb - mines bloody uselessly terrified of turkeys i now know -

Cactus/Succulent ID and Advice pls :)
miss-meander88 replied to miss-meander88's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Hey bardo thanks I just googled it... Its definitely fast growing and probably with the propensity to take on that huge tree form... Definitely had the "milky sap".. But the flowers on the mother plant were loads bigger than the flowers im seeing on google :/... Also, i already have two cuttings and apparently its very fast growing! I dont know what id do with so many cuttings if i propagated it! -
My first giveaway.... A Kava Plant
miss-meander88 replied to MountainGoat's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Oh dear mountaingoat, i didnt think bush turkeys would be that interested? I have had one come investigate my place recently, funny thing is my big fiercelt protective bulldog x is completely shit scared of them... will approach with confidence any other intruder but bush turkeys? Nah shes out haha like a puppy with her tail between her legs...im thinking they may have had a run in Wow they sound big! I knew mine was just a baby but still i have heard they are not the easiest to propagate - main reason I am trying to learn now is so I can hopefully continue on cultivating from the plant i have Heres my story, maybe you can offer some advice, its ok if not, i dont mean to be a hassle I purchased this plant online about 2 months ago, as standard for sending plants it came barerooted with leaves trimmed, there were about 3 leaves and 3 stems when i received it... It wasnt a problem at all but i did notice the stems had brown spots on them and all the leaves had brown spots and holes in them... Did a little research, learnt of "shothole fungus" being common in piper methysticum (i think in aus we call it black spot fungus and its seen in roses, tomatoes etc...i may be completely wrong sorry!)... Anyway, worried about it, i sprayed it with a diluted alcohol and dish liquid solution (im so sorry if thats akin to blasphemy!).. Nearly two months on, most leaves are problem free, it has grown two new stems, many new leaves that appear to be fine... But now you mention piper auritum, i am also wondering, did i receive a true kava at all? I am aware many online sellers attempt to sell auritum marked as methysticum... So theres another question! Anyway heres some pics, i am pretty sure its methysticum due to the leaf vein structure thingy, it very well may not be .. ^am i methysticum? ^the last leaf with a little of what i think may be "shothole fungus" (or whatever the aus equivalent is), the original leaves with it grew many centred holes in each leaf before they turned yellow and died ^ new growth in 2 months - yay (or not so exciting if its easy to grow auritum ) ^shady stem that is not starting new growth properly with suspect black spots typical of methysticum "shot hole fungus" ^ happy kava now (or not kava, who knows!) Anyway, sorry for the long pain in the ass post , it might not even be true piper methysticum! One reason i joined here was for advice on my beloved kava plant (amongst others) Any help would be awesome but in no way expected -

Aah nice thanks to both Yeah i saw it and thought "what a cool little little plant"... A cactus? How very odd, i don't think i'll ever understand the difference between cacti and succulents :/ i sort of thought it looked like a succulent but then again i also thought it mightve been some sort of air seaweed lol :/ Thanks again! Do You Give Money To A Junkie Knowing It Will Feed Their Addiction?
miss-meander88 replied to DiscoStu's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
Its interesting how many people (not here but in the world in general) seem to think that "junkies" are easily distinguishable.... Volunteering with iv drug users, it never ceases to surprise me just how many appearances "junkies" take... the stereotype of the iv drug user does exist but there are also equal amounts of individuals with habits that look more than "respectable", cleancut, business like etc.... So theoretically, how does one know that when you hand your money over to anyone, that part of it wont end up to feed a drug habit? What i mean is, "junkies" dont all look the same, who knows when we are facilitating someones habit?... I personally wouldn't really think twice in a street situation, ive given many a dollar to "hobos" that may very well just have spent it on alcohol...if i have the change and am approached nicely, chances are if i have it i'll give it, its not my job to nose into what ohers do with themselves i dont think spare change on the street will buy much of anything anyway Hell, im probably just going to spend it on alcohol and ciggarettes, so who am i to judge? On the other hand, from someone who grew up watching a loved one fight iv drug addiction, the family stopped giving her money, would always buy food help with bills etc but we all refused to pay for her to directly destroy herself.... but as a kid i always used to kind of wonder "well if her bills and food are paid for shes got more money to spend on shit anyway".... Hmmm i am unsure, as usual, i am a walking contradiction -
Hi everyone Newly validated member and incredibly pleased to be here As an icebreaker i thought I'd do trade/giveaway.. I've just recently acquired my green thumb I don't have any botanics to offer, however, I do make funky little polymer clay creations that some of you may have seen in the SAB forum gallery thingy... They take a fair amount of time and patience to make and as I've got uni exams coming up so the few on offer won't be quite as intricate but still very awesome.. Anyway! To give away (first in best dressed I guess) - A single glow shroom in a small corked glass vial To trade: - 2 × Single plain glow shrooms in corked vials - 1 x Single coloured glow shroom in corked vial - 2 × Plain glow corked vials - A small daisy incense burner - A small mushroom cluster incense burner It will take me a little time to make them, probably about 2 weeks.. Anyway its lovely to meet you all and I look forward to learning from and being part of this community
