    Acacia courtii propagation from cuttings

this is really important work! its quite hard to compare growth rates I suppose, unless you grow seed and cutting side by side and in same conditions, soil, pot size, light etc. will update how my own explorations are going when I can

    Acacia courtii propagation from cuttings

Amazing work Ferret! I am very curious as to any updates on your experiments? I am keen to start exploring propagation from cuttings and wondering how those initial successes are coming along, are they thriving, have you noticed any difference in growth rate since you repotted them from tubes as compared with seed grown trees?

    Acacia Trees for Everyone! (Finished)

Thanks DB!! That is very interesting to hear, I am only going by my research and others that I have heard, I think there is still a long way to go with this species! what medium are you using to germinate? What kind of success rate would you say your getting and with how many seeds? Pairing with the right bacteria helps the tree grow up to 4 times faster and much healthier, I never really had success with Phlebophylla until I started inoculating the seeds http://www.cpbr.gov.au/cpbr/projects/wattle-grow/index.html Simhanada, that was very likely me, pm me your address and ill send you some Phleb soil if you want to give it a go! For anyone without land wondering if they can grow Phlebophylla in pots...
  16. Hi all, I have some special seeds to get to the right members. 10 seed and soil packs to giveaway. Each pack includes: 10 x Acacia Courtii seed + Rhizobia 10 x Acacia Phlebophylla seed + Rhizobia Due to the scarcity and relative difficulty of germination with these species, I am looking to get these seeds to members who have already developed some propagation skills with this genus (Acacia). Post some pictures here of acacias you have grown from seed (honesty required), doesn't matter what species. If you got the goods (skills) you get the seeds, I will pm you to forward the pack. Terms and conditions: To keep the gifting going and to get these trees out there, members who apply agree to giveaway at least one seedling of each species (if you successfully grow multiples) to a fellow SAB member by posting it on this thread! Acacia Trees for Everyone! (Finished)

Hi Sallubrious, what a generous offer! I will send you TH's seeds and inoculant along with some things for you as a thankyou Horsey, I am very happy to just send off the seeds and inoc as a gift the inoculant is simply soil collected from around the roots of a healthy wild phleb, this soil contains the right strain of rhyzobial bacteria to form a symbiosis. Only a small amount is required as the bacteria is microscopic and prolific. It is possible to germinate Phleb seeds without this exact strain but the success rate is severely diminished! Just be aware that importing soil is very different to importing a commercial inoculant. Im not sure if the inoculant you already have will work, maybe give it a go on a few seeds and report the results id be interested to hear Simhanada, I find for most Acacias it is not necessary to inoculate for germination (though I usually do anyway) however for Phlebs it seems to be key! As far as I know azotobacter is a different genus of bacteria to rhizobia and that they generally don't form a symbiotic relationship with plants and just fix nitrogen freely, it may be doing something, im not sure. Thanks everyone!

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ I have had issues in the past sending seeds overseas so I have decided to deal only within Australia. I have more Phlebophylla seeds now so if you can send me an address for someone in Aus willing to forward them to you overseas I can full fill your request. Sending plants overseas is a whole other ball game so I will specify Aus only.

pics of the acacia plants i look after.

Interestingly Courtii has demonstrated strong ability to adapt to most conditions found in Australia (from what I have heard) it certainly grows well here in Melbourne which leaves the question of 'why are some plants, in this case A. Phlebophylla and A.Courtii microendemic?' left open. It could have to do with their specific rhizobia symbiot however my tests (and others) have shown that even when not inoculated with their preferred strain of bacteria they grow fine. I personally believe they choose to only grow naturally at their defined locations, big. granite. crystal mountains! However, with a little encouragement will grow anywhere reasonable. Even more interestingly these locations have particular relevance to the indigenous people of those areas... All Courtii I have sent out have been inoculated with the bacteria direct from their home turf. As it is now present in the soil and root system of the plants they can then be potted on with the standard acacia mix Olive described which is native potting mix, granitic sand, perlite and slow release native fertilizer. Acacias are tough and adaptable, once they have developed some reasonable phyllodes only lack of water or getting the trunk snapped off in the wind seems to kill them!
