Meet up: Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle

Be cool to do a joint SAB-APS meet-up/ picnic of sorts sometime … or a mushroom ID workshop/bush walk/camp when Sub season starts
  2. Sydney Siders- Don’t miss this fascinating and hilarious event as the Australian Psychedelic Society present Nick Sun’s inaugural book ‘No Mo Trippin’ with Q&A and shares with us; ‘Some thoughts, maps and traps of the DIY psychedelic healing /awakening path‘ Nick Sun has a unique story, in that he was a professional comedian for 13 years (2004-2017), winning awards (JJJ Raw comedy, UK’s So You Think You’re Funny, Epping hotel meat raffle) appearing on television and various comedy festivals around the world as well as supporting such famous acts as Marc Maron, Doug Stanhope and Chris Rock, before he went through a healing crisis precipitated by his first series of Ayahuasca experiences in 2015. Realising that he had some serious demons to deal with and a lot of healing to do, he quit standup to embark on a seven year voyage of healing and self-wankery, whereupon he began training and working as an underground psychedelic facilitator, serving Ayahuasca, Kambo, Iboga and San Pedro between the years of 2017-2023 all over Australia in the underground psychedelic plant medicine scene, where he witnessed and guided over 2000 individual experiences, treating a wide range of people from all walks of life ranging from busdrivers to doctors, psychologists to cops. The variety of experiences and healing processes he bore witness to were often incredible and inexplicable and he observed a number of miraculous healings that question current western scientific paradigms. How could such a man embark on two so very different career paths? Well it’s a bit complicated but basically it’s in his genes. One grandfather ran circuses while the other one was the local medicine man and healer in his Himalayan village. In late 2023 his plant medicine journey slowly began winding down and he was called to return back to the stage in order to develop a standup comedy show about his experiences as a facilitator and healing journey, as well as finally finishing and publishing his first book, ‘No Mo Trippin’ which is based on the diary excerpts and blogs: https://nicksun.medium.com) that he wrote during his most intense years of plant medicine healing, experimentation and initiation during 2015-2018, in an attempt to document and integrate the process of spiritual emergence and psychedelic healing that he went through. He describes it as a genexers take on the healing and awakening process, a kind of comedic pisstake of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, written in the ascerbic, sarcastic, profanity-laden voice of a wounded comedian searching for healing, redemption and transcendence. This book launch will have Nick doing a serious (but with some funny bits) talk on various aspects of the DIY psychedelic healing process, including traps and pitfalls of the process, the possibilities and limits of psychedelics, and a brief overview of what he learned during his time in the field. This talk is especially relevant for those who are taking psychedelic self-healing into their own hands, as he will describe some of the processes to expect if you are on the DIY path of psychedelic self-healing, as his book explores this process of entheogenic self-initiation happening increasingly here in the West. Afterwards there will be a Q&A session, as well as books and legal plant medicines available for sale. Book available here: https://www.amazon.com.a...-Nick-Sun/dp/0645682705 Doors open: 2:30pm Book Launch: 3:00pm Break: 4:00pm Q&A: 4:30pm Doors close: 6:00pm Where: East Sydney Community and Arts Centre, 34–40 Burton Street Darlinghurst 2010 Tickets: $20 available here: https://events.humanitix...ook-launch-with-q-and-a Facebook Event Page: https://facebook.com/events/s/nick-sun-no-mo-trippin-book-la/303129248826436/

  5. PSYCHEDELIA is a short but thorough documentary film about psychedelic drugs and their ability to induce mystical and religious experiences. The film chronicles their use in controlled research studies prior to the cultural upheaval of the 1960s, when LSD was regarded as a promising medical breakthrough, as well as their recent re-emergence in psychiatry. Featuring leading experts in the field of psychedelic research, the film tells the story of medical professionals who have re-introduced these compounds into a legal and growing field of study. First-person accounts from a study on end-of-life anxiety explore the profound, life-altering insights psychedelics induce in participants and what these insights might mean for society at large. After the film we will have an open mic discussion and there will be plenty of time to socialise as we have the venue for a few hours. Hope to see you all there ! Meet up: Melbourne

Hey Melbourne folks - APS needs some capable, reliable and knowledgeable crew to rebuild the chapter there. https://www.psychedelicsociety.org.au/articles/volunteer-position-melbourne-chapter-lead
  10. Welcome to the exclusive APS celebration of Cactus Day. We take this opportunity in May to mark the groundbreaking experience of mescaline taken by Aldous Huxley in 1953. Given to him by Humphrey Osmond, incidentally it was these two who later coined the very term ‘psychedelic’. So to celebrate this much underrated and under-discussed ‘psychedelic/entheogen’ we will be having a gathering to learn more about these amazing cacti. Our first guest speaker is ethnobotanist Liam Engel who works with Edith Cowen University and EGA (Entheogenesis Australis). Liam is the editor of the books San Pedro Hybrids and Trichocereus culture, author of the Reference Guide for Lophophora Conservation, creator of the Lophophora Research Repository and a founding moderator of Trichocereus Auctions Australia. Liam will talk about growing these completely legal plants during a workshop focused on grafting and cacti seed germination using various methods, We will then be joined by Marc Camo who is the owner-operator of Urban Tribes Needle Park Cactus Nursery, one of the earliest entheogenic cactus gardens established in Australia. The story of Urban Tribes and how this fascinating and diverse collection came to be, is grounded in Mark’s travels through Peru and South America during the 90s. Whilst there he not only collected specimens but participated in traditional Huachuma and Peyote ceremonies and will talk about the ritual practices he encountered whilst there. Additionally we will be screening the Wade Davis film; PEYOTE TO LSD: A PSYCHEDELIC ODYSSEY. Filmed in five different countries the documentary is based on the groundbreaking discoveries of revolutionary ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes. In a full-length cinematic journey from native ceremonies to laboratories in Switzerland, the film explores the evolution of psychedelic substances from sacred plants to modern psychotropics. This will also be a unique opportunity to bring some cactus cuts to giveaway or swap/trade, etc in order for someone to get their collections started or grow an existing one and join in this amazing hobby. WHEN: May 29th, 12:00 - 3:00pm WHERE: Temple on the Park, Newtown TICKETS: $20 from; https://events.humanitix.com/aps-cactus-day-2022
  11. For this very special instalment of Book Club, we are excited to be joined by author of the book Aya Awakenings, Rak Razam for a live Q&A and the usual bookclub vibe. https://fb.me/e/1CL6YMEql In Aya Awakenings, experiential journalist Rak Razam sets out to document the thriving business of 21st-century hallucinogenic shamanism starting with a trip to the annual Amazonian Shaman Conference in Iquitos, Peru, where he meets a motley crew of "spiritual tourists," rogue scientists, black magicians, and indigenous and Western healers and guides, all in town to partake of the ritual- and the medicine- of ayahuasca, "the vine of souls." Combining his personal story with the history of Amazonian shamanism, Razam takes the reader along on an entertaining, enlightening adventure. Author/ Filmmaker and Host of the Shamans of the Global Village. Rak Razam is an alchemical storyteller with his finger on the pulse of tomorrow and the heart of today. A screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, journalist, and culture maker, his focus is on the cultural paradigm birthing in this brave new world. www.rakrazam.com Where: The Temple on The Park, Newtown When: Fri 29th April 6:30-9:00pm Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/aya-awakenings-q-and-a-with-rak-razam-aps-book-club?fbclid=IwAR1D4XK1EWo_BBM45aYW-1krniCAibLPzO9KYLTRaTYdGNuCqRApzcYdJ1w
  12. The thing is growing a tree will take 5-7 years to produce any useful relief and that's in a tropical environment. Its probably better worth your time to seek our a vendor that ships to Oz either form the US or Indo...and even then go money on recommendations as a few are probably dodgy too.
  13. Hi All, The Australian Psychedelic Society is in the process of launching a program called Psychedelic Creatives. I'm posting here in hopes (and assurity) that we have a bunch of really amazing artists of all kinds in the SAB community here (remember the term artist broadly applies to all creative expressions). That you all may be able to suggest some great local artists that we could showcase too. So if you'd like to get involved, contact us through the new APS website link below - or drop the contact details and examples of an artist you admire in the thread here. The Psychedelic Creatives project will focus on those working as an amateur, semi or semi-professional creatives in order to support those making, or attempting to make an income in the creative arts within our community with a notable 'body of work' to demonstrate. Psychedelic inspiration can be explicit or implicit, but there needs to be a link that we can demonstrate. The project will take the form of an interview/article (either video or text) where we pose a series of questions to an artist in order to tease out their psychedelic influence and resonance, interspersed with pieces of the artist's work with links to their various project sites and platforms where others can support them in their work We are therefore calling for submissions from the creatives within our communities so that we can provide a window of support and exposure for the independent artists out there...be they visual artists/musicians/creative writers/poets/sculptors/film-makers/comedians/graffiti artists/performance artists/etc Below you can register your interest, and we will be in touch regarding your submission. We really look forward to seeing what this amazing community can do! https://www.psychedelicsociety.org.au/psychedelic-creatives
  14. Thought y’all might enjoy this interesting conversation that James W. Jesso hosted with a few of us about where the Australian psychoactive Acacia species fit into the local psychedelic scene here, and how our interactions with these species connect us to a deeper connection with the spirit of the land: https://www.jameswjesso.com/drinking-the-psychedelic-acacia-trees-of-australia-psychedelic-cafe-5/?fbclid=IwAR1goTSu03e3fP0QGs_DjGLAL3fC62K8nBkYv3Pu4MgmfLJV6CA5RqG2uv0
  15. Yeh the quality of said 'XXX under the counter vendor' that is well known here is not great by comparison. I have read very recently that there are talks about an outright international ban coming from the UN (coerced by the US FDA as per usual !), so getting it in even from US vendors may prove increasingly difficult.

    Diplopterys

Live Diplopterys Cabrerana plants (Chaliponga, Chagropanga) seems to be a very rare occurrence in Australia. I've been told this is more to do with classification/taxonomy confusion than anything; previously being classified in the Banisteriopsis family as B. hereian Ratsch here.. though as Trout points out in Some Simple Tryptamines; "Diplopterys cabrerana (Cuatrecasas) Gates [Misidentified by Morton as Banisteriopsis rusbyana (despite this persistent error, they are not synonyms)" It does feel quite different to Chacruna as it is said to contain 5-MeO-DMT or at the very least 5-OH-DMT (Bufotenin) in addition to n-n-DMT and is more commonly used as an admixture in the Columbian & Ecuadorian Yagé traditions than in Peruvian ayahuasca traditions.
  17. If anyone in Perth is interested in cannabis and cannabis law reform, the Australian Psychedelic Society-APS is co-hosting an event with the SSDP with speakers discussing this plant from the perspectives of science, society & politics. Both these organisations need your support if we're to help bring about change, and I know the Perth crew would love to see you all there in person. TICKETS HERE

    Meet up: Perth

Hey there Perth People The Australian Psychedelic Society's new chapter in Perth presents the fourth seminar in the Perth Altered States Series which explores the relationships between psychedelic experiences and contemplative practices such as mindfulness meditation. The idea of a connection between psychedelic states and Eastern meditative practices has persisted since the early days of psychedelic science. Recent research has documented psychological and neural commonalities between psychedelic and meditative states, and synergistic interactions between psychedelic ingestion and meditative practice. Moreover, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies sometimes employ concepts (such as “psychological flexibility”) that have strong connections to contemplative practices. The session will be led by Dr Chris Letheby and Tobias Penno, both of whom have conducted academic research into connections between psychedelics and contemplative practices. Letheby and Penno will present and explore philosophical, scientific, and clinical perspectives on the relationships between psychedelics and contemplative practices such as mindfulness. WHEN: Sunday 27th Jun 2021, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm AWST WHERE: The University of Western Australia TICKETS: https://events.humanitix.com/altered-states-series-workshop-three-citizen-research-meditation?fbclid=IwAR1UdaBMEnc43Nv1ryGsP1aCPLytM6eydSG_g5cpn0LRkeDGHp19BNCXAvI
